Anyone have any exeriences to share with 3D glasses? I was initially looking at the "TDG-BR100" and the 'TDG-BR250/B". I was leaning towards the BR100's because I don't watch much in 3D and don't wont to hassle with re-charging etc the few time I do.

However I came upon this amazon review of the BR100's:

2) Pretty bad crosstalk - if you're not moving your head much then these again are better than most glasses, however the reality is that mot people move about and you end up with some occasional and annoying ghosting of the image (crosstalk) - just trying turning your head to one side. I found a post online somewhere with a reference to a Sony KB Article (C1017777), stating that Sony is now making available - free of charge - an additional polarizing filter that can be applied to the existing glasses to eliminate some of this. See: [...] (if you call Sony customer services tell them it is KB ID: C1017777).

Most recently as an experiment, I purchased a pair of the new PlayStation 3 3D Glasses - which aswell as supporting the new Simulview technology, should also reduce crosstalk with inbuilt filters. I'm happy to report they eliminate all ghosting of imaeges - even with your head turned to obscure angles. The build quality is no where near as good as the TDG-B100's, but they are also a lot cheaper and would be my choice looking for any other 3d glasses today.

I looked up the KB and it is an issue. I also see some mention of it in the EX720's owners thread, but it was back in 2010. Does anyone know if they fixed the glasses yet? Any other suggestions for 3D glasses ? (wife and I both wear glasses)

EDIT: Leaning towards the Xpand X103 glasses now...

I figured it out thanks..

So I bought this on a whim from fry's last night on sale with a BR player for $1299 TO POTENTIALLY replace my UN55D8000..

I have tried all these settings over and over but the picture is so grainy I mean it's shocking! I can't think of anything else I can try but any suggestions the grainy aspect is a total deal breaker..

Turn detail/sharpness enhancer off and any other enhancers off.

I have optical audio out cable from my KDL55NX720 to my Yamaha receiver to get better audio performance when using the television for Netflix or Amazon on Demand movie playback via internet. My receiver gets the signal fine however it only shows as ProLogic format, and not Dolby Digital or DTS. When receiver gets digital signal from optical out via DVR or DVD, the audio does display as Dolby Digital or DTS so receiver can handle these formats. Anyone else using the television's optical audio out and are you getting DD or DTS signal?

Yep I have done this to no avail. Could it be my hdmi cable? Wonder if it's causing some problem. Does anyone else have an extremely grainy picture especially on cable HD box?

Possible it's the input? I'm going to go buy a new cable and use a different Hdmi input. Is everyone else's experience good with the picture Quality cause I'm super bummed. Hoping it's just this set or a simple fix.

I have the 60in version and I also have a Samsung 52A850 which has a super sharp HD picture. The Sony is every bit as sharp and clear. Maybe you have a defective tv because I can't imagine the 55 having a grainy picture..did you try putting in a Blu ray?

Yeah I am referring to Blu-Ray as well as Cable TV HD just grainy everywhere I am thinking I have a bad cable or possibly a bad input. I'll try and dial in another cable in a different input. I already have a stuck pixel so I am by no means committed. I would just hope this TV would look better my Samsung which I use the same cable looks stunning. These 2 TVS are not even in the same league. Again I'm not trying to get ahead of myself I hated the Samsung when I first got it. Took a lot of work.

As I wrote in a earlier post I had a 46NX720 (but returned it due to loose gorilla glass) but apart from that I loved it.

Now I can´t decide what to do.

1. 46CX520 - Try a old school lcd (CCFL)
2. 46NX720 - Try another 46NX720 (unfortunately more expensive this time)
3. 46HX850 - wait and hope for a better mounting on the gorilla glas (hopefully also better PQ)
only downside is much more expensive than the other two and also don´t know when it is coming to sweden.

anyone have an option?

Best regards

Kim

My 60NX720 arrived on Tuesday. My previous set was a KDS-60A3000. I'm using the settings found in the CNET review.

Overall I really like the set. I get some clouding, can see the light seam people talk about, and in some instances the corners seem a bit bright, but the important thing is that this ONLY seems to occur when changing inputs or if my blu-ray player is changing modes (sorry not sure what else to call it) and NOT when there is anything being actively shown on the screen. Extreme off angle viewing IS poor, but I have an adjustable wall mount if this ever becomes a problem and with my small living room it rarely if ever will be. With all technologies having some downside I can live with these because the picture is otherwise VERY good with no noticeable issues at all 99% of the time (and it really looks nice on the wall!). Especially considering the price I paid through Sony's discount program. This is coming from someone who is normally very picky when I can $$$ to be.

As far as all the internet apps go...as others have stated above I think they are just gimmicks, and I REALLY wish there was a way to 'hide' them in the menus. I'd prefer them to be out of sight out of mind, because the main menu is just way too cluttered with all this junk. My blu-ray player already does most of this stuff with a much better interface. But I guess TVs are like Madden football these days....ultimately the same old game, but they have to add something each year that they can crow about on the back of the box.

Oh and the stand is pretty crappy. Might work better on the smaller sets but seemed a bit wobbly on the 60.

I have had the 60nx720 for a few months now. I got the Narnia Pack with the TDG-BR250/B Glasses.
Pros:
- Fits over my wife's glasses without issue
- Quick Charge - last minute 3d movie decison? OK I only need 3mins to charge
- Stay charged for a long time.
- Bundle was cheaper than 2pairs of glasses with a crappy movie included (LOL)

Cons:
- Crosstalk seems to be evident with the TV regardless of which glasses you use. I also have the Kids glasses TDG-BR50/B, and also tried the PS3 glasses from a firned ans it seems to be the same amount of crosstalk regardless of which glasses are used.
- BR250/B Glasses fit very snug on the sides. I dont think I have an overly large head (never been called Gazoo or asked to duck down in a movie theater) but getting through Avatar 3d Blu Ray was nearly impossible for me. They are very tight fitting IMO

Overall my impression of 3d on this TV is poor. Entirely too much crosstalk regardless if I am playing conent from Starz3d on demand through my cable company or via my Sony BDPs480

The least crosstalking Ive seen is on the online sample videos available through the widgets.

I've had my Sony for three weeks now and have had a chance to get used to it.

One thing I'm not liking about it and maybe I'm being too picky. The left and right edges of the screen are a little lighter than the rest. Anybody else noticing this? Is there a setting that may help?

It's average. Prices have been varying alot with sales(you can check the deals threads). If you order it via amazon as the seller (see the sellers list on the right) you can get them to price match some retailers. For example sears has it cheaper right now and they will match down to it. I used this method (although it was cheaper a week ago). Even if you dont match it, amazon has a more flexible return policy which would be worth the few extra dollars to me.

If you have a fry's nearby its even cheaper in store.

Define 'edge'. Like a half inch in?

My set has pretty uniform brightness when viewing most content. But the CNET settings I'm using calls for very little blacklight...mine is set to one.

The 55 Nx720 went on sale, in store @ Fry's for $1,099 today.

Those looking to purchase with a Fry's near them may be elated, others not so much. I purchased this last week (PM'd to sears) for $1,399. Now it's $300 cheaper.

Yes, about half an inch in. I downloaded the cnet settings. I'll experiment with the backlight setting. I think I have mine set at 7. That may be too high.

Thanks, AMartin.

Thanks, AMartin.

I think this is the "crease" everyone talks about on here.

got my replacement for the gorilla glass. Was a brand new set, perfect. The only problem is that I have to redo all the pictures settings.

I can't complain for $100 tv.

My recommendation would be to buy one of those open box items from amazon now if you can't get from frys or sears. If anything is wrong with the panel then more than likely they would replace it with a new set.

A+ for sonys customer service and delivery, less of a headache I had to go through with ordering this tv from amazon.

I don't know how much you paid for it on Amazon but you should be able to call Amazon and have your order price matched post purchase to Sears' current price of $1,499.

Not a bad idea, does Amazon add tax and shipping when they pricematch with Sears?

Shipping from Sears is free. Unsure about the tax. Amazon price match is very hit or miss, representatives are given latitude, you just have to have the right one pick up the phone.

How long did you have the TV before the gorilla glass started to become detached? I am still thinking about picking up this set this weekend, but the glass separation issue has me worried. Does the replacement seem to be more durable in any way, or just about the same as your original when you got it? I'll have to make a last-minute decision I suppose, Best Buy's weekly specials reset every Sunday.

Used settings posted here by hires, belpat and overboosted to tweak my set and came up with the following. Incredible difference. Now I absolutely LOVE this set. Everyone who watches it is blown away. A few friends have immediately gone out and bought one for themselves after viewing mine.

Couple of areas where the 60NX720 isn't so great:
-- If I had a wide viewing area, I'd be really pissed at the horrid off-axis washed out picture. Thankfully, my seating is pretty much right in front of the set so no big deal.
-- It's beyond me how Sony can make so many products that are capable of easily connecting to a secure Wi-Fi network and fail miserably in that regard with the 60NX720. I run a stealth network. Normally, all you need to do is manually enter the network ID and password. But, even though this set allows you to go through those motions, it will not connect. It's a well documented bug on their forums, yet they fail to do anything about it. If I had bought this set with the idea of using it's Web capabilities, I'd be livid. As is, I have a Mac Mini and PS3 hooked up to it so the only thing I really am interested in using Wi-Fi for is firmware updates and it's easy enough to turn off the firewall long enough to do those. Of course, I do need to keep track of new updates by reading this forum instead of letting the 60NX720 do that for me.

Anyway, here are the settings I finally settled on:

Picture mode- - Custom

* Backlight--------7
* Picture-----------97
* Brightness------50
* Color-------------49
* Hue---------------0
* Color Temp-----Neutral
* Sharpness------56
* Noise reduction-Off
* Mpeg-------------Off
* Dot----------------Off
* Motionflow---------Off
* CineMotion------Auto-2

Advanced settings:

* Black Corrector-----Low
* Adv. Contrast----Low
* Gamma--------- -1
* LED Dynamic-----Standard
* Auto light limit----High
* Clear white--------Low
* Live color----------High
* Detail enhancer--Low
* Edge enhance ---Low

These settings are pretty good I agree.. I got this thing for $1099 today from Fry's.. Pretty great deal.. I just want to add that the blacks don't look right unless I set Motion Flow to clear..

Here's what I got for all my friends who just bought this thing..

Picture mode- - Custom

* Backlight--------7
* Picture-----------97
* Brightness------50
* Color-------------51
* Hue---------------G1
* Color Temp-----Neutral
* Sharpness------56
* Noise reduction-High (my Cable Box sucks)
* Mpeg-------------Off
* Dot----------------Off
* Motionflow---------Clear
* CineMotion------Off

Advanced settings:

* Black Corrector-----Med
* Adv. Contrast----Med
* Gamma--------- -2
* LED Dynamic-----Standard
* Auto light limit----Off
* Clear white--------Off
* Live color----------Low
* Detail enhancer--Off
* Edge enhance ---Off

I think this is really close to perfect the blacks are soo deep and a great picture..

I'm thinking about purchasing this TV at Best Buy but had some questions before making the jump. I think Best Buy's promotions reset on Sunday so the more prompt the response the better!

1. How is the viewing angle? Does it deteriorate/get washed out if you're not sitting directly in the center of the screen?
2. Does flashlighting occur ONLY when switching inputs or can you also see it when the screen is mostly dark (such as when credits are rolling at the end of a movie)? I'm assuming dynamic local dimming helps this but I'm not sure.
3. Any issues with horizontal or vertical banding?
4. How does motion look? Television Info's review said it was poor but CNET's review wasn't as harsh.
