Thanks! I was concerned about the phrase "available combination of two pictures varies depending on your region/country" - I wanted to ensure that in the US I can pair the internal tuner and an HDMI connected cable box.

I suppose with that dubious description we need an answer from someone who has the tv. I won't be getting it for a few weeks.

I've been doing some research, and I'm not so sure now. I've been operating under the assumption that backlit local-dimming sets are better; in theory they sound like they should be better. I was pretty sure I'd buy the HX909.

But I've seen the 'blooming' on the HX909 (haven't seen the HX929 yet), and I've found it to be pretty bad. Possibly worse than the limitations seen in higher-end edge-lit LED set. (especially when you factor in the $1000+ higher price as well)

I'm now leaning towards getting the NX720, but I haven't seen it yet. As long as they've fixed the screen uniformity issues (the NX700 was REALLY bad), I'm leaning towards this NX720.

The NX720 really is a great TV.

How does the nx720 compare to the ex723?

after this long time, how do you find 3D ? im concerned about active VS passive 3D

For those with an nx720, how is the Sound quality? I'm getting a 60nx720 to replace an old 60xbr2. My xbr2 has fantastic sound so I didn't need to get any extra speakers for my small to medium room. Will I need a sound bar for this tv?

Before I got mine, I was prepared for the sound be unusable from all that I had heard and sort of expected it from a TV that is basically a monitor due to it's thickness. I find the sound is usable for just everyday use like watching the news, documentaries or my daughter watching her shows. If you are an audiophile, it's terrible. You are not going to get any bass or punch. If you just want to hear it without all the surround on, it does the job. To enjoy a movie fully, no way. That is when I turn on the surround sound.

Finally got my offer from Sony for the 60nx720. Going to file the paperwork this week. Happy to hear people are enjoying their sets.

Does the NX720 do the correct Chroma 4:4:4? Usually done in pc mode and also I have been thinking about the NX720 vs the 820 and 929 series. Does the NX720 have the same lcd panels as those? What are the major differences other then local dimming(929) that warrants the much higher price tag on the 820 and 929 vs the nx720?

My goal is to use the tv for gaming and pc use, so any insights on these awsome tvs would be much appreciated, thank you!

The NX720 has local dimming too. Which means of course the blacks are like ink.

so what is the differrence between this and HX929 if both have inky black ?

Hmm the Nx720 and HX820 are edge lit local dimming, the HX929 is local backlit, more advanced and more expensive. My biggest concern with the NX720 is if the panel is the same as the hx820 and hx929. If it is I could go with the nx720.

Before you trash the tv based on this photo realize its an 8 second exposure.
If you still feel the need to kill it, please accompany your post with an 8 second exposure picture of your own tv. The two red lights at the bottom are from the Wii sensor bar.

I have done a basic calibration with spears and munsil and I think the only way to achieve a better picture would be professional calibration.

The off axis viewing is good to 30º, that is longer than my couch at 12 feet. I routinely sit ~80º to the left while on the computer and while it is washed out it is not too bad for casual viewing.

Vertical axis is more restricted, but I have it mounted using a Sanus LT25.

The SD is much better than my 55A2020 but local commercials suck.

About $1000

The inky black was the first thing that really stood out to me. With the 60A2000 I had, you always had 'light' even when it was black if you know what I mean. When the NX720 goes to black, like when switching to a commercial, it is like the set is completely off. Ink is a good description. The gorilla glass and monolithic design is a piece of art also when the tv is off.

Ive narrowed it down to 2 sets. The NX810 and the NX720 in the 60 inch range.

Both were offered to me at the same price and both are brand new.

Im not sure which one to buy... The only difference i can tell between the 2 is the 810 has a Motionflow PRO 240Hz and the 720 is XR 240 basically a 120hz panel.
Also, the Bravia 3 engine for the 810 vs the X-reality for the nx720.

Other things that dont bother me are gorilla glass, More internet streaming, incorporated 3D emitter (comes with the purchase of the 810 if i desire at no extra cost)

Im torn...I know the 60 inch 810 panel is really good quality but X-reality on the 720 is more advanced than the Bravia 3 engine.
Am i really going to see a difference in refresh rates? Is the Motionflow PRO 240Hz
that much better than XR 240 ?

What do you guys think?

Can you comment on the glare / reflection of the gorilla glass - does the anti-glare technology seem to perform adequately?

For those here who own an NX720, how long is the cable on the video/component adapter? Here's a pic from the manual...

Can anyone measure input lag? Or just make a video while playing with controller in front of a camera??? I need this info very much!!!

I've never notice any glare and now that I'm looking for it I don't see anything noticeable. Nothing distracting at all. Perhaps the 6 degree back tilt helps with that. That is one thing that I didn't expect though and unless I'm mistaken, you can't tilt it forward to be straight vertical and it does not swivel.

I haven't measured it, but if you're concerned about gaming performance don't worry. I haven't experienced any noticeable gaming lag, and I've been logging a bunch of hours via PS3, Xbox and my computer.

My TV is placed at roughly perpendicular to a window, so yes - there is a little glare. But it's not too bad, and only really noticeable in parts of the picture that are perfectly black (black acts like a mirror in this case). But again, it's not bad and you really have to be sensitive to it. As long as parts of the screen aren't pure black, you won't notice any glare (and I'm only talking high noon conditions, by the way).

I have the 55NX720 set up on a Salamander Synchro Mate stand in a rather brightly lit family room, and while there is reflection on the glass, there is next to no glare so now we can watch content in the middle of the afternoon that would be all but washed out on our old Mitsubishi.

The Synchro Mate stand allows us to swivel the TV about 30 degrees each way, and tilt about 10 degrees. We made a good choice, at least IMHO.

I was torn between the EX720, NX720, and HX820. I ended up deciding on the HX820 as a replacement for my SXRD. I didn't mind paying the little extra for a 240hz panel. Supposedly a 240hz panel is better for 3D.

Just got my 55NX720 set up (not calibrated yet) and I must say that this is one sexy beast. After dealing with picture problems on my 50A3000 for so long, the NX is a welcome change. I threw in How to Train Your Dragon BD and was very impressed with the PQ right away. Network connection was a snap as was the update.

If someone can tell me what the secret of photographing a TV is I can take some shots.
