Official Sony NX720 Owner's thread (KDL60NX720, KDL55NX720, KDL46NX720) - Page 98

Ok guys here is a photo of my picture quality from Yankee game tonight and here are my settings for my eyes 20/20 vision with glasses. These settings are only for the Sony KDL55NX720 but may work for other models which I doubt. If it is a little to bright for you I recommend going to the Preference menu and turning on Power Saving to low or high and/or turn on the Light Sensor, it will make a big difference but will keep the colors just about the same.

Standard setting
Backlight 5 or 6
Picture 90
Brightness 48
Color 60
Hue 0
Color temp neutral
Sharpness 65
Noise Reduction Auto
Mpeg NR Auto
DNR Auto
Motion flow Standard
Cine Motion Auto 1
Blk Corrector medium
Adv CE Medium
Gamma 0
LED DC Standard
Auto Light Limiter Medium
Clear White Off
Live Color Low
White Balance untouched
Detail Enhancer Medium
Edge Enhancer Medium
The rest is blacked out

I hope you like it. My eyes do.

I have not used netflix, but I did have to do that for Pandora. Pretty simple, not sure why sony does it. First time you try to use the app, it will give a code to enter on the sony website before the app will work. Only takes a few seconds.

Ok apart from backlight 7, brightness 50 and sharpness 60, that is how my 46XH823 came out of the box....what i am saying is, suggesting your settings don't work on my 'different' model then why do Sony who supposedly test these tvs feel it was best to provide me with those settings out of the box?

Just food for thought.

There it is. I edited it last night and it must have deleted by accident. I just posted it.

I have no idea. You maybe right but I just feel there might be a slight difference. I know the main difference is the LED lighting, Bravia Engine, Processing is different and not to mention your screen size. How much those 3 things change a picture is unknown to me. I believe with a smaller screen size you do not need to bump up the color as much and processing. So therefore, the setting would be different slightly.

I feel that Sony does a lot of work in providing the best settings for their panels but it is up to us to tweak it best to our personal liking. Which is what I did. But everyone should remember I wear glasses to give me my 20/20 vision. I also have a stigmatizm in my left eye which my lens in my glasses fixed for me, so again, my settings my not be the best for others but perfect for me. Do you understand what I am trying to say Aaron?

The LED lighting is different?

For pure kicks i put the set to General - Standard scene last night ie how it comes out of the box. I left the tv, waited and then "What have you done to the picture"

It was my mum, she said it looked horrible.

As a technophob she said the colours looked wrong and red looked to bright.

Well, it just doesn't work on my set then.

Hey I added a paragraph to my last rant (Post)...

I am not sure what LED your panel uses, thats why I said that.

Well tell you mum that I wear corrective lens and also tell her that none of my friends have said anything bad about the colors. I think you mum might need glasses.

By the way what is a mum?

I received my swiveling mount yesterday from Monoprice $60 shipped. Here is a pic. It looks like its floating in mid-air now. It is now an even sexier Sony Bravia.

Oh and tell your mum that I said I like my colors to pop and not be Dull. You should know this by now, you should have said "yea but mum, this dude likes his colors to pop, we all have different eyes and see colors different, they may look to bright to you but to others its perfect"

Now that is a perfect response for mum. lol

My mum is the person who gave birth to me.

Yes i get what you are saying, i am just saying that to the few that suggest Sony calibrate these sets and apply the best settings, well for my mum to comment about the picture being bad well it must be pretty repulsive to her eyes (remember this is the out of the box settings my set shipped with). No offence to her but i have tried rather a few settings now and it takes a lot for here to complain about the picture.

Ok i am going to respond to this by saying first, it wasn't about trying your settings for at the time you hadn't posted yours, i knew they were close to standard but not how close. It was purely an exercise to see what she thought of the out of the box settings without being prompted ie being fed suggestion.

Secondly when you say "I like my colors to pop and not be Dull." There is something slightly wrong with that statement, because you are suggesting that anything less than what you have is dull. I don't want my picture to be black and white, and be barely visible. I also don't want it to be garish witch default on my set is.

So its about middle ground, you like punchy and what i would call garish, i like a more neutral picture and not dull as you keep saying. There is a big difference.

My mum would also probably say to both of us that she doesn't really care as long as she can watch the tv.

No offense but I never take a woman's opinion when it comes to audio/video. Its just not their forte'. So therefore, it is not saying much that it is repulsive when everyone says its beautiful. Sorry mum but your wrong.

Furthermore, again, you do not have a Sony KDL-55NX720, so you cannot use my settings. I don't think you are understanding this.

That's true Aaron, I would be more inclined to use your settings over Rich's since I have the HX729 and my set is much closer to yours when it comes to the "guts" of the TV. The settings may result in different images on two different panels. I would still think they would look similar though, since the two sets share so many of the same Sony features. It's not that you cannot use his settings, more so that you shouldn't. Besides, you know what you like, he know's what he likes, and you both seem to have found your own happy ground.

Again, I cannot stress this more. MY SETTINGS ARE FOR MY EYES ONLY, I WEAR CORRECTIVE LENS FOR MY EYES TO GIVE ME 20/20. Please take this into consideration when using my settings.

Ok i believe at least one person here may find you remarks rather sexist swolfcg (Steph), also don't want to make assumptions but, cindyh?

I don't think you are understanding what i am saying here, or you are just to busy trying to be stubborn.

My set shipped with your settings out of the box....Not sure what you don't get about that. I will say it again, my set has your settings. So if the panels are different and the processors do make a difference to how the settings look, either Sony don't take much time 'calibrating' or they are purely for shop use. Either way the settings you are raving about that Sony provided just look awful on my set.

You say my mum is wrong and then say you don't have perfect vision, well sorry to burst your bubble i have so i am told and from what i can see perfect vision, and my mum does not wear glasses or need any aids, notice the pattern here....

Anyway i am tired of talking to you, you keep contradicting yourself and now you are just being rude.

I am off to do some cardio.

True, its just the point i am trying to make is that the default settings are the same on my HX823, neverfaithfuls NX720 and i am going to guess that your HX729 has the same default settings. So why i keep getting told that the settings wont work for me because i have a different set and size screen, when Sony provided them with my set, why shouldn't they work if they are so good?

So i don't get why people are so set on trusting them and just going with it, when they are nothing more than eye catchers for stores.

Very true, too bad you keep changing your mind on what settings you like. I took your settings and I am very happy with them, but I can't keep up with your little tweaks. I could probably spend hours tweaking things one at a time, but as I found when I was tested for contacts and the eye doctor asks you "Better, Same, Worse?", things start to all look the same after a while..

Sorry Swolfcg.

Yea you did say that your settings were the same, I took that into account but you also said there were some changes as well. So it is still different and that does matter a little bit.

I knew this would happen if I posted my settings. I rather not talk about settings in this thread because everyone has a personal preference, especially if you do not even own the NX720.

Regarding my vision, I do have perfect vision with glasses and I use glasses, I never said I do not have perfect vision, did you not see me where I wrote 20/20 vision? So what are you talking about? I think you both need glasses to be honest, lol. Just kidding or am I, no I am...

I am not being rude it is just that words on a forum sound more harsh then they really are so I am sorry if I offended you, don't be mad. You seem like a good young man.

I am saying our televisions are different bro, you need to post your settings in the thread for your HX823, this is a NX720 thread. Do you not see what your doing. I'm just saying.

I agree settings are personal, but they slight tweaks you have made still leave on settings that Sony had on for default, being honest your setting changes don't help the picture i am seeing.

I get what you keep saying with regards the different mode, but and there is a but, are you telling me Sony designed setting especially for your 55NX720 that will not work on my Higher end 46HX823? See what i am saying?

Yes. This is all nonsense talk in these forums. I do not take this stuff serious. I been on this forum since 2006. Everyone argues about settings (Yes it says 2008 on the left but I had another name before this one). You and your mum think that the colors from my settings is too much or too red, I on the other hand love my settings and I watch TV with a smile, which do you think is more important here? On my NX720, not your 46HX823 (A different panel) and with my eyes it is not too red, in fact, it is perfect. Look at the picture I posted, you think that is too red and too blue, yes the green grass is bright in the picture but not when watching it. I am not telling people to use my settings. I posts pictures of my movies and people like them and ask me what my settings are. I am posting for them not for everyone. This is why I keep saying and stressing that we all have individual preferences on how out picture looks. I didn't even want to post my settings because I don't want to hear "its too bright or there is too much of this or that". Ok, it is too bright or dull but I like it, who cares what anyone else thinks as long as your/myself is happy. I write certain things in my posts so people can read it and understand me. If you go back and read the what I wrote in my posts where I posted my settings it is saying to the person reading it that it may be to bright for other people but perfect for my eyes. I try to avoid the settings argument, but no one wants to listen.

I wold rather talk about what movies look great on this tv, or how great the blacks are or what do you guys think about the internet browser, which widgets do you use most, what mount are you using and other related problems.
