I agree settings are personal, but they slight tweaks you have made still leave on settings that Sony had on for default, being honest your setting changes don't help the picture i am seeing.

I get what you keep saying with regards the different mode, but and there is a but, are you telling me Sony designed setting especially for your 55NX720 that will not work on my Higher end 46HX823? See what i am saying?

Just by me turning off the Power Saving and turning off the Light Sensor made a huge difference, even my friend said so that was next to me when I did it, We were like wow, turning it off makes it brighter and pop more. So that alone helped my picture. After I did that I turned down the backlight to 5, another difference, then change my brightness. These few changes were enough for me to be content and happy. Your "higher-end" model that is only 46" is different. Yes they are especially made for my NX720, that is what I am saying. I do no understand why you are posting settings for a 46HX823 in a NX720 thread. That alone boggles my mind. What aren't you discussing your panel in the proper thread, lol..

it used to be a japanese comic from the late 60s. There was a cartoon associated with it, which was never shown stateside until like the late 80s early 90s. The film is from 2008 and is a live action version of that cartoon. All the characters, cars and settings are taken from the comics.

The reason why everything looks so good is because like 75% of the movie is actors standing in front of green screens. So the rest is computer generated. The race scenes in particular look stunning on our sets. I only suggested that movie because if you liked the whole "Wow" and "pop" factor that you would get from the clips of Ultraviolet on your demo disc (Girl with the purple hair and sunglasses in case you haven't seen Ultraviolet), then you will love the colours you will get from this movie.

You can probably find the bluray for cheap. I'd hate to tell you to download it, in case you got a crappy rip of it or a dumbed down 720p version. Even though the movie isn't that strong, it's definitely one of the baseline movies that you can show off your set with.

And to defend Aaron - nobody posts in the HX820 thread.. just like nobody posts in the HX729 thread, hence why I am here..

Oh Ok I will check it out then. I am sure Amazon sell it for cheap.

Oh I thought there would be a thread from those sets as well. Usually every product that I have owned so far had a specific thread for it. That is weird, ok then I redact that statement then. I guess the NX720 is better then those sets, lol

Wow the ps3media server works great. It plays much more formats than the serviio even with the 2010 profile.

To jump in on the settings I started with the cnet settings and I have come to the conclusion that whoever did that calibration is color blind and did the tests on the dark side of the moon. Way too dark and lack of color. Putting on warm 2 looks awful. I think the reason anyone would do that would be because they have the color down too low. That adds the flesh tone color back but makes everything else look yellow.

I went back to a slightly modified version of the standard setting. I think the neutral setting with the color set in the upper 50's is a much warmer and natural a picture than the warm settings. I boost the contrast up to 97 and lower the backlight to 5 and to me the picture pops. Having this set run with low color and all detail additions off is not doing this set justice. Everyone running cnet settings should go back to standard and watch a movie to reevaluate what they think this set should be setup as. Just my opinions.

Aaron I didn't say don't post here I just thought it was strange to post opinions and settings for a tv set that is a different model even though have almost the same guts. I Think that would be like me posting and giving my opinions in a Panasonic AE3000 thread when I own the AE4000 projector, same but different model. I would not use their settings even though our sets are similar.

I can't find any information anywhere about the update package. On the Sony Support site, it still says that the newest version is PKG3.904AAA. No clue as to what 4.003 has in it.

I haven't done the update yet, I will check tonight.

Problem with my KDL-60NX720.

The tv keeps switching the audio from my home theater system to the tv speakers.
As soon as I turn on the tv, a black box appears on the screen in the lower right hand corner saying
"switching audio to external speakers."
Then after a few minutes another black box appears on screen saying "audio system not available,
switching to tv speakers."

The switching back and fourth continues for as long as the tv is on.

How do I get it to stop?

I just want the audio to play through my audio systems speakers.
The strange thing is that when I'am playing movies with my Sony BDP-S580 blu-ray player,
black boxes appear on the screen saying that the audio will be switching but it doesn't.
The audio plays only through my home theater system.

My tv, blu-ray player and receiver are all connected with Sony 1.4 HDMI cable.

IMHO I wouldn't. It is good enough to enjoy. People just think its ok to lay their head on the armrest while viewing 3D movies.... Silly...
Buy the Playstation 3D glasses because it works great, you can lay sideways and the 3D still looks good and they are compatible with Samsung,Panasonic,Sharp. I was disappointed in the 3D quality of the TV before but now I am loving this TV because of the newer glasses. The other glasses from the free Narnia kit are junk, example you lean and you get extreme crosstalk not including the crosstalk you get just watching with them straight on. I also read that Sony is making newer 3D glasses that are lighter and stylish.

Not at all. There is only crosstalk on certain TV shows. Movies are great. IMO it has more to do with the content than the TV itself. Tron Legagy for example has ZERO crosstalk. ESPN 3D however does have crosstalk.

The only device I know that plays MKV is the Western Digital Media Streamer - its like 90 bucks, and it also plays mp4 files.

My TV has that black box saying switching audio to external speakers when I first turn it on too - but that is because I have turned off the TV speakers in the options menu. It only stays on the screen for a second or two and then is gone. Is everything plugged in through your receiver and then to the TV? Or do you have the Bluray player going to the TV in one input and then the receiver in another? Does your receiver allow you to plug everything into that and then go directly to the TV? If so, make sure you are plugged into HDMI 1 on the TV. Does your receiver have ARC (Audio return capability)? I could understand seeing the black box once when it's switching to your home theatre, but not repeatedly. So when you turn the TV on and are watching cable/satellite, where does the audio come from?

I am contemplating getting one of those. Don't know if that is the same one, but this one has a 1 TB HDD built into it as well, so you can just load it up with everything, plug it into the TV and away you go.

I convert .mkv files to .mp4 files but I feel like the video bit rate isn't lossless as I notice a little bit of jumping here and there that wasn't present when watching the .mkv file.

Hey everyone.

First time poster to this site. I just bought the 55 NX 720. I am new to the world of LED and 3D, so I was hoping to get some good feedback.

1. Need to get a Blue Ray 3D player... I am leaning towards a PS3 to get the gaming with it. Would this work well with the NX 720, or should I go with something else?

2. Being new to 3D, can anyone tell me what the best settings and equipment I should get? Glasses, Cables, Settings?

3. Lastly, are all these different settings on the display necessary? I feel the need to turn everything on but not sure this ruins the pic.

Thank you for all suggestions.

Hmm...maybe it's a panel lottery thing, but with the 60 inch you don't even have to start the movie to see terrible crosstalk in Tron Legacy. The menu options along the bottom of the title screen are really bad. And this is with straight on viewing with no head tilting etc.
