My 46NX720 just started doing the same thing with turning off and 4 red flashes. Turned out to the the LED driver board.

Someone let me kmow when sony upgrades the usb port to read flash format NTFS, and mkv files.
Every firmware I receive has no such changelog

I don't know if this is normal or not. I don't watch this TV much but I noticed something the other night when watching a live show with lots of lights and moving objects on the screen. The image got distorted and looked really low resolution, really blocky. It stopped as soon as all the chaos on the screen stopped. I assume this might have to do with the refresh rate. This is my first large LCD TV so I don't have anything to go by.
I think if it was "really blocky" the issue was more than likely related to the video feed (ie. the broadcast itself). What you can go by is a comparison of sources. If the TV doesn't do it with better source material like DVDs/Blurays then your issue is with the broadcast. Having a high quality large screen makes these issues more noticeable.
I didn't think about that. I'll pay more attention.

I am unable to get PIP to work with my cable box.(Time Warner).
It looks like the TV will only do PIP between two seperate video sources. Anyone else play around with this?

Your question was answered back in May the first time you asked:

my Sony KDL-60NX720 started having large vertical royal blue line about a month ago. no matter what i did, it would not go away. the unit was purchased about 10 months ago at best buy after they discontinued so it was still under warranty. i contacted Sony support several weeks ago and they have been working on a solution. according to tech support, the problem is not fixable w/o replacing the display, etc. anyway today they offered me a new KDL-55W900A (1 yr warranty) or a factory refurbished XBR-65HX950 (2 yr warranty). since i really enjoy the the opticontrast display and did not want to get smaller, i decided on the ladder... biggrin.gif

Idk if it's just from watching my plasma all the time but it seems like now that SOE is stuck on even though motion flow and cinemotion is off. Seems more watching dlna through ps3 media server. Would that cause it?

I bought my Sony Bravia 55" 3D HDTV from Sears Feb 2012. Sony 1 year warranty expired but I have the 3 year warranty with Sears.
My tv keeps turning off then on and blinking a red blink a lot.
It's aggravating.
I saw on Amazon and a lot of threads that 1000s of people are having the same problem.
Why is there no recall?

KDL60NX720 - I really love this tv, but it's been dead for five weeks now. Long story, but it may just need to be replaced after failed part replacement attempts. Does anyone know what the currently equivalent Sony model in terms of features/quality is?

Probably because the SXRD returns were a financial disaster

I use neverfaithful's settings - how bout you?

thought I'd pop this thread up - I always had ambient light off - boy turning it on makes this TV jump - looks spectacular. I still think it looks as good as any upper tier LED I've ever seen. Yes the new Sony's are awesome but this NX720 with the Gorilla glass has stood up to almost all new releases. The black levels are excellent and the colors have depth; almost impossible to achieve on an LED.

The settings I have waaaaaayy back near the beginning of this thread are what I have stuck with. They still look good to me, not sure whose settings they were. Been so long since I have been here:)
I will take a look at nev's settings an a different input and see how they do.

My nx720 is now unusable.

It stays on for around 10 seconds before making a click sound and tripping off.

It's been doing it for a while now but maybe once every day.

Just tonight it's decided to let go, the led doesn't blink it just trips off and back on again.....and then off and on again.

I managed to get a factory reset in when it was tripping off at minute intervals but that made it worse and it's now at 10 second intervals.

I currently live in Dubai so if you guys know what needs replacing that would help a lot as the maintenance in the Middle East is pretty shocking so if I can tell them exactly what's wrong, I may have a chance in fixing it.

It's a 2.5 year old 46 inch nx720 wall mounted and connected via HDMI to a sony amp which connects to various devices.

Any help would be appreciated before I throw it out the window and go an buy a samsung........mad.gif

My 46NX720 had problems earlier today. I can turn on the TV fine, but it doesn't display any picture. What is even worse is that I can't turn it off from the remote or the TV unless I unplug it or the Energy Saving switch. All the buttons on the remote work fine except the Power button when the TV is on due to the green blinking light indicating that the TV responds to those buttons. I had this TV since December 2011 and bought it at Fry's Electronics. Anyone know what the problem with my TV is?

Did you click the "get manual" button below the preview screen? It's not obvious, but it worked for me.

not really a direct equivalent to an nx720 anymore. it was a mid range sony line with an opticontrast display with the monolithic design. the only current opticontrast panel left is the highest end x900a series. if it is still under warrantly, i would try to get some sort of reimbursement from sony and purchase another one online or something similar like an hx820 (same year slighly higher model), hx850 (one year newer slightly higher model) or hx950 (one year newer much higher model). many of these are still available through some online services, but very limited supply. gl.

Under the preview box is the underlined sentence "Get manual", click there. That's the download.

Maybe thus is not the place to post this, but here goes. I have the 60NX720 and recently purchased the HT-CT660 Speaker Bar. It's connected with an optical cable, not the ARC, as it is connected to a Denon 3313. Anyway, the Bar acts as a separate unit and must be controlled with it's remote. The TV speakers stay on and must be turned down with the TV remote, AND the bar must be adjusted separately. Anyone else having this problem? How have you fixed it?

Settings -> Audio -> Speakers -> choose "audio system"

This should disable the tv's internal speakers.
Thanks, but I've gone to Audio Settings and made adjustments. If I choose 'Headset' and plug in a headset, it does cut off the TV speakers. But choosing Optical does not. When I turn on the Denon to watch a movie, the TV automatically switches to external speakers and the 7.1 Denon speakers are activated, thru ARC, I suppose. When the Denon is turned off, the TV speakers are automatically re-activated. But again, the Sony Sound Bar acts like a totally separate unit.
I added sound bar, panasonic i think, to my set, same as yours but 46 inch, and it has to be operated separately also and could not work hooked up the way the installer said it should but i dont remember what he did but it wouldnt work the way he thought it should, i.e. the traditional and main way to hook it up to the tv didnt work and he had to do it arc or the other way around

my problem is eco settings all off, presence sensor off, but still shuts off for no reason once in a while (sleep timer off also)

also, the remote doesnt take batteries?

cannot for the life of me find a way to take the back off to change them, impossible to me

Is this information on the most comparable Sony set still accurate?
The new model year for tvs is just around the corner, correct? Any ideas if that will bring something new to the arena?

I absolutely love my nx720. I think it is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Tons of compliments on it, both turned on and off.
The construction of the set is nearing on a work of art and with the picture dialed in correctly, I think the pq is top notch. (especially considering the price the set cost new). I have seen a lot of higher end Samsungs up close and I think the nx720 rivals them all.

However, the increasing reports of this set dying off everywhere has me worried.
I was lucky enough to add a four year square trade on top of my one year Sony warranty and my set has not had any regularly occurring issues to date *knock on wood*.
Yet, if my set dies - I do not think the return of my money will fill the void of losing such a sick TV. Breaking even financially after years of use would still feel like a loss in my heart.

So, I would not mind preemptively buying another comparable set - if one could be found.

I have the bug for more inches anyway. What are the real options for getting another Sony set as high quality as the NX series is/was?
