They are wrong the NX720 does have a full pixel mode.

Here is relevant information from the online I-Manual.

This was especially apparent when watching from off center vertical angles (but also from horizontal angles). Also, when the screen was totally black I didn't notice the problem so much (probably because the dynamic LED switches off the backlight?). It was however very obvious when most of the screen was black, but there were some bright objects (e.g. when using the on-screen menus).

I also compared the NX720 and HX820 with the Samsung D8005 next to them, but the Samsung didn't seem to have so much problems with this.

So I just wonder if this is something that others have noticed as well with the NX720 and HX820 (i.e. black/dark areas turning grey/blue when viewed off angle)? If so, is it something that can be improved by changing any setting?

It could be dependent on the calibration. From experience some settings on an angle give off a purple hue, but with a different setting from the same angle, it appears black. (on my NX810)

@Do-It-Yourself:

This sounds almost like the classic "white glow"/"IPS glow" issues present on IPS computer monitors. Could Sony be using an IPS panel on the NX720/HX820?

Yeah I actually played around a little with the TV at Best Buy yesterday and found all the aspect ratio settings. Surprised the guy in the review couldn't figure it out, lol.

Any suggestions about what type of wall mount is being used by members. I will like to get Monoprice ultra slim wall mount to enhance the look of the Kdl60NX720. But I am concerned about ventilation, being too close to the wall. Sony manual recommends minimum clearance of 2 and 3/8". Please help.

I wouldn't worry about ventilation to much. These Tvs run fairly cool. The speakers are in the back which might be a problem. If Ultra Slim is what you are looking for, check out Sanus. They have one that is about a half inch from the wall. A little pricey, but they are clean wall mounts. Check out there website.

Thanks Erik535353 for your input. I will look at Sanus.

Man, I received my new KDL-60NX720 now, but he can't find any TV-channels (analog).

I am replacing my Samsung PN64D7000 with the NX720, primarily because of the Gorilla Glass. My 45 day old Sammy's screen was extremely fragile- a stray hot wheels car and goodbye $3000. Because the GG is so thin, the screen flexes with pressure (unlike last year's 810). I doubt a blow that did not break the glass could damage the LCD, but it does "bloom" when you tap on it.

Anyone have any hands on experience yet with the GG on the NX720? Anyone hear of a damaged or cracked screen yet (other than from shipping)? It seems like GG is really good at deflecting direct hits without damage, and not so great when you hit it from the edge, but I don't really know.

Anyone see a damaged screen yet?

Thanks for referencing this review. I, too, am looking at the NX720 and comparing it to the EX720. One item in the review really surprised me - it gives the NX720 a much better score on reflectance (7.0) than the EX720 (3.5). I would have thought that the gorilla glass would be more reflective than a matte-type screen. The NX720 appears more reflective when I view it in stores - anyone have an explanation for these reflectance ratings in the review? Thanks.

For what it's worth, of all the reviewers to me this one is the most irrelevant. If you go to
Calibration, you will notice they use the Graphic Mode which might be ok for gamers. Then they have the Backlight after calibration at Max (ouch).

It's the same with my 60EX700, they have the Backlight at Max...no deep blacks with that setting!
I use 3, due to the bright environment in our viewing area. Great blaks, plenty of punch and natural looking!

Not only is it durable but it is gorgeous.
I have not heard 1 person that has a broken screen.

the screen appears to have an iridescent type coating is the only explanation

Just wondering, is there any review of the NX720 available online yet?

Thought I'd seek out some opinions in this group here. Will also ask 810 owners too since they may not read here.

Have a 7 month old KDL60NX810.
Noted two small marginal dark spots on scenes that are off white in background. One size of a quarter, other size of a dime. Near the center. Hardly ever see it on TV or movies but once you see it, you know to look for it.

Sony local tech came out and can replace the whole display, could take 8 weeks to get new glass and do it in home.

Sony also offered a brand new KDL60NX720 at n/c to swap.
Aside from a few new s/w features and gorilla glass, not much else there. But its technically only 120hz vs 240hz panel in the NX810.

Or could ask for NX810 refurb that they are selling. New NX810's gone.

What does everyone think?
Ive had the NX720 for about 3 days now. It replaced a new PN64D7000 Samsung Plasma. I can't see a difference with the NX720 as compared to the 810, which a local dealer still had as a floor model. I think the picture is excellent, even compared to the Plasma, so i'm not sure if 240 hz really ads anything. I think the motion resolution is pretty darn good, very close to the Plasma, so I don't know what the review at Television Info was seeing that I'm not.

The only issues I can see with the set are that some vertical banding is visible occasionally with panning shots on a light background, which I assume is a result of the edge lighting. Not sure if this is any better on other models or on full array sets like the HX929, as this is my first LCD. Can anyone with experience with other sets weigh in on this?

The other issue is crosstalk on aggressive 3-d movies like the Deep Ocean Imax Blu-rays. On studio movies, like Tron 3-d, it is virtually nonexistent.

By the way, the NX720 has now been discontinued, so you should be able to get a blow-out price if you can find one.
I don't know how anyone can resolve the differences between the Television Info review and the CNET Asia review. According to TI, motion and color accuracy are mediocre. According to CNET, color is perfect and motion excellent.

And according to the most important reviewer...YOU, the owner?

I'd be interested in the source for this comment. The NX720 was just launched recently, and the Sony store is still selling it.

I really don't believe this considering it's only been on the market since March 15th, 2011. Are you confusing this with another model?
