First time we've ever seen it for $299.

Best Buy had them for around that price or maybe cheaper on clearance but that was on a per store basis whether they had it in stock or not.

Is this model being discontinued? In that case, I hope to see that price again (wishful thinking).

The RX-V671 is a discontinued 2011-2012 model. It was replaced (in early 2012) by the RX-V673. If Yamaha sticks to their "usual" schedule, they will announce another replacement model (likely named the RX-V675) early next year, and in stores mid-2013.

Recently picked up this receiver and am loving it so far. Still tweaking my set-up and Harmony One remote, but getting close to having it all set.

A couple questions I have about the Sirius XM Internet Radio. Is there a way to save or set up a list of favorite channels either on the Yamaha Receiver Android app or on the receiver itself? Also, why don't I see channel 105 - The Opie & Anthony Channel? I realize this is part of the XM side of the company, but it is available when listening to SiriusXM Online either on a computer or with the dedicated Android app. In both of those it is catagorized under "Entertainment", but from the Yamaha menu, it skips from channel 104 to 106. Is everyone else seeing the same thing, or is there some sort of an update that I need to do? My receiver arrived with Firmware Version 1.21, so it appears to be up to date.

Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated.

I dont use Sirius but if you read the manual there is a way to save favorites to the receiver. You can even make 1 a station from Sirius and 2 a station from Pandora, etc.

My firmware version is 1.18 which is the current version available on Yamaha's website.

I'm a little embarrassed to ask this but can someone tell me why some of my movies play my back surround speakers and others don't? If the movie is listed as 7.1 then this receiver plays all 7.1 channels. (Hunger games for example). When I play Avatar which says it is encoded with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio it plays all 7 channels. When I play The Dark Knight which is encoded Dolby TrueHD 5.1 I only get 5.1 channels. I guess the issue I have with this is why don't the back channels play in 5.1 instead of the side rear channels? It’s fine when I'm on my front row of seating but when I sit in the back row the side surrounds are slightly in front of that listening position and it just sounds off to me. I just got this receiver and can't find anything in the settings that would allow me to activate those rear channels for some of these movies that I'd think should be playing information to those rear speakers.

Hate to pop in for a random question like this, but I can't find an answer anywhere online. Anybody know if this works with an iPhone 5 for playing music? It seems like most devices that only took a USB cable still work with the new "lightning" to USB sync cable, just wondering if anybody knew for sure.

thanks for the suggestion, but yeah, the video processing is off by default, and i don't believe it does anything with an HDMI 1080i src anyway.

Of course, tonight it's behaving just fine so far on CBS. I will continue the research to see what's causing the issues. There were 5 or so people early in this thread seeing the same thing, but i realize this thread is pretty old now.

Make sure that you dont have the rears hooked up as the surrounds. Are you changing sound programs? "Standard 3d" may use different speakers than say "Straight" depending on whether its 5.1 or 7.1. 5.1 technically does not include the rears. That would be 7.1. But some of the 3d sound programs will manipulate 5.1 into 7.1. Try switching between straight and standard to see if the rear speakers work and then quit. This will tell you that it is just the sound program that you are choosing.

i purchased this received and love it only one issue and it just may be my wording i thought the 671 would do Hdmi switching in standby like a switch would in meaning this i mean if i had everything off and decided to turn on my xbox with would display and if i turned off my xbox and turn on my cable box it would show . it seems that with the 671 you have to change the inputs manually am i missing a setting of is this just not a feature the 671 can do and if not does anyone have any other suggestions to a smiler receiver that would do this.

I was able to play Pandora and locally stored music off the iPhone 5.

I do not know of a receiver that will change inputs automatically as you turn them off and on. Being able to change inputs without turning it on is an improvement over many receivers. Is it too inconvenient to press a button on the remote? Do you need a universal remote?

Whether the AVR automatically switches to another source as they are turned ON/OFF is soley dependent on how HDMI-CEC functions between the various devices in the chain, although in most instances, manual selection is required.

Thanks for the info i originally just had a monoprice HDMI switch that did what i wanted thought receivers could do the same. This is my first non HIB set up so still leaning . So im hearing this right the receiver will output the last signal input the receiver was set too before it was turned off ? can you change inputs manually with the receiver in standby ?

Been using the RX-V663 in my main system for several years of bulletproof usage, and I just picked up the 671 with the Amazon $299 deal. Moved my 663 down to the basement to replace the POS H/K 635 that's been completely unreliable over the years. Loving the extra HDMI inputs and the networking capabilities of the 671, and otherwise, seems to fall in right where the 663 left off. The Yamahas may not be glamorous, but they get the job done for a lot of value.

I solved issue2: was a setup "hidden" in another menu of the TX-P42GT50: ouput to Home cinema instead of TV.
Issue1 (VCR display) is not solved but I'm now using a workaround by connecting my VCE directly to the TV and with issue 2 solved I have now my sound through the RXV671.

Still would like to have advice on upscaling NAS data:
I have movies on a NAS. The plasma can play them but I'd like to get them upscaled by the RX-V671. Is this possible? If yes, what would be the setup/cabling?
Or do you know if the plasma TX-P42GT50 is performing upscaling?

My testing seems conclusive, and i think i have a solution i can live with.

The directv box switching from another resolution to 1080i is what the yamaha isn't handling well, causing the video glitches. 1080i itself isn't a problem, as long as that's the only resolution coming through on that input.

On the directv boxes, you can choose output resolutions, and choose whether to use "native", switching resolutions depending on what's being broadcast. I can lock the box to 1080i, which i'm fine with, and avoid the video issues with the yamaha.

It's annoying that we have to deal with these bugs, but as long as the solution holds up it's not a dealbreaker.

I'm liking the sound so far and loving the networking capabilities. SiriusXM internet radio, pandora, streaming from PCs, and the android/web control have worked flawlessly.
I'm looking forward to some more audio tweaking soon.

I am looking for a nice receiver and Yamaha RX-V671 seems to fit the bill but last week, I found Pioneer VSX-42 openbox item at Best Buy for $188. It's a good price and does have most of features that I am looking for. Any opinion from experts here?

Quick question... I apologise if this has been covered here, or elsewhere, but it's quite difficult to search for the exact terms of my query.

I'm looking to buy one of these for a friend and set it up for him.
One of the main requirements is to watch one thing on the screen, but listen to something else in the same room... all via the receiver.

Basically, he wants to be able to play his PS3 which will be displayed on the TV via the 671, but listen to his iPod/another source (internet radio maybe) at the same time, in the same room.

Can this be done, either by source switching or Zone settings?

He has ceiling speakers already installed, which can act as Zone 2 in the same room, if need be.
If there's a way he can output sound to his main speakers whilst still displaying a different video output, then even better!

If it's a simple case of: 'Mute zone 1, play Zone 2' then that's fine, I guess!

Yes, the 671 has a "Video Out" setting (p. 81 in the manual) to specify which video source you want to output while listening to audio from the network, USB or Tuner. You could make it work with Zone 2 as well. What you can't do is listen to audio from another HDMI source.

Ive been using mine for about a week now. I watch TV in Movie/Drama..when I went to sound program it said not avaliable to make any adjustments. The front panel always displayed dolby digital as I kept it on decoder. Now the other night I noticed it flashing between DD and then DD and then DDPPII Movie..now when I go to sound/program I have the options to pick Neo or PLII...why would this now show up and is there anyway to keep the front panel from displaying the 2 items without switching back and forth..its very annoying. I know I could keep the the panel to just display the input but I would rather have it display the decoder...thanks for any info.

Which indicator you see is determined by the type of audio provided by the TV station. A Dolby Digital indicator means that a station is providing a 5.1 multi-channel surround-sound digital audio signal. You'll see the DPLII/NEO6 indicator when a station provides only a two-channel stereo audio signal or a single-channel monaural audio signal. DPLII and NEO6 are decoders which can be used to manipulate a stereo audio which includes surround encoding to produce a limited form of surround-sound. When a station is already providing 5.1 multi-channel surround sound signal, there's nothing DPLII or NEO6 can do to it.

No, that's not normal.

Does it happen with more than one TV station?

If only one station alternates between Dolby Digital and PLII, I'd suspect a problem at the TV station, in which case you should try contacting them.
If several stations show the same symptom, it might be a problem in your receiver.

Many TVs have an informational display which shows what kinds of signals are being provided by the station you're currently watching -- stereo, 5.1 surround-sound, SAP, closed captioning, digital sub-channel and video resolution, for example. If that varies, then it's certainly the station.

Well if I watch a program in 5.1..the front display stays on DD..if I watch a program in 2Ch the display alternates from DD to DDPLII Movie anfd then back to DD...kinda distracting seeing it move like that..anyway to stop it and just have it Display DD
