Hello All

im new to receivers. i got the yamaha-rx-671 and a projector. i connected my laptop (netflix running) with hdmi-cable to the hdmi-in in the front panel of the receiver; then i connected the hdmi-out from the receiver to the projector hdmi1. im able to see the video, but i cant hear the sound via the speakers. my laptop recognizes the device as the projector.

otoh, if i disconnect the projector, just keep the connection between the laptop and 671, im able to hear the sound. when i do this, my laptop sees this as rx-671 device.

My question is: is this setup making both video and audio go to the projector? am i missing something to split the video (to the projector) and the audio to the receiver via the hdmi cable?

any help appreciated.

I was unable to login from a PC but was able to access the site yesterday using Safari on my Macbook.

I don't have SiriusXM streaming, so I can't say if that works or not. My main desire was to see if the new firmware would help with my issue of not being able to use the Roku 2 XS. The new firmware didn't help there.

Hi I've had my new 671 for a few weeks and I'm having problems with the YPAO calibration. I have a 5.1 setup, and when I run the YPAO calibration it seems to work fine. I'll watch TV or a movie for a while and it sounds great, but then randomly the sound will get out of whack and the voices will drop down and be barely audible. The problem exists until I run the YPAO again. As a result, I've had to run it many times and can't get it to stick. Does anyone have any advice for solving the problem? This is my first surround-sound setup, so I don't have a ton of experiencing with troubleshooting these things. Thanks!

That is very unusual and difficult to diagnose. If the ypao settings are changing on their own then you have a defective unit. If it is just the sound that is changing you may have a defective source ie cable box, blu ray player, etc. Keep track of when this happens ad check your ypao settings to see if they have changed. Provide more detail as you can.

You may have a defective receiver. Otherwise, it could be your source, be it a cable box or the like. Or perhaps a defective cable or faulty connection. But there is no reason that the YPAO in and of itself should be causing any issues. For the most part, it simply sets levels, assigns a crossover, etc. Sure, it may apply some EQ, but that shouldn't cause a problem.

You'll simply need to troubleshoot and try to find the reason, but obviously running YPAO over and over is not normal or feasible.

As an aside, you should double-check the YPAO results. It is always quite accurate for distances and levels, but I usually need to change my front speakers from Large to Small, set my crossover to my preferred 80Hz, and fine-tune the levels of my speakers slightly using a sound level meter.

When I enable the PIP in my samsung tv with the receiver on, it disables the main, sub sound option in my tv
Anyone knows how to get the sound from PIP with the receiver?

So I re-ran the YPAO calibration last night. I then watched TV for about an hour with the sound working just fine. I then decided to watch the Dark Knight Rises on my Apple TV. It worked for about 2 minutes, but then the problems return and the voices dropped out to inaudible levels.

Possibly a bad center speaker. Swap the center speaker out with one of your rears. Don't make any other changes and see what happens. It could be the center channel on the 671 is bad too. By swapping the speakers this should narrow it down further.

I have an issue where it stops outputting sound (at least I cannot hear it) although I can see the DD logo so I know it is getting the audio. I turned off HDMI control and the issue has stopped.

Does anyone know how this compares with the YAMAHA RXV1900 ? Just wondering as I have the RXV671 but have seen an YAMAHA RXV1900 as a good price. The grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side of the paddock forme.

If you're fine giving up a couple HDMI inputs,(6 vs 4) the ability to pass a 3D signal and networking/internet streaming on the RX-V671 the RX-V1900 has more power, multichannel inputs and 7.1 analog outputs for connecting an external amp and a phono input if you use a turntable. The 1900 is a higher end unit but it is a little older.

Just depends what features are most important to you.

I HAD yamaha for a number of years.. was at abt and looking at the latest. my old yamaha did have 2 zone capablity but older so no hdmi and other tech stuff.. so i was talked into the pioneer sc61. now i find out i cannot send a hdmi signal to zone 2. i was using my old yamaha as an amp for zone2. but no go.. the pioneer is a real pain in the a@@ to set up and sitll having issues. is there a Yamaha you can recomend that is on par or suprerior to the sc61. i need zones with ability to pass through to them apple tv signals via hdmi.. also how is the video on yamahas compared to pioneer tech.

you're not going to be able to send HDMI to zone 2 with the Yamaha either.

Its rare to have a receiver with that capability and it won't be on the less expensive models,.

You'll need a receiver with dual HDMI outputs also.

ok.. so do i run an hdmi to the pioneer from the apple and also and component to the pioneer and then a zone 2 cable from the poineer to the yahmaha which can then feed my multi switch system for the other rooms in the house.. so in other words the apple tv will send analong and hdmi to the pioneer .. and as i am now learning the pioneer can only send analong to the yahmaha.. ...

not sure what benefit i recieved from getting the pioneer system..

You cannot send a HDMI source and output thru component video so that wont work. no receiver I've seen does HDMI to component conversion. Not allowed under HDCP rules,.

The Yamaha RX-A2020 will do HDMI in zone 2 if you're looking at a different receiver. But it'll only do the same HDMI source as the main zone. you can't watch a movie in the main zone and output a video from apple tv to zone 2 at the same time.

Does Apple TV even have component video?

Zone 2 has its limitations no matter what receiver you get.

Hello Experts,

I recently happened to purchase RX-V671 and have setup this with Polk Audio Blackstone series TL 1900 (5.1 setup). When i run the YPAO setup and see the results it found below observations:

Wiring:
Center Speaker - Reverse
Surround Right - Reverse

All the rest of wiring is displayed correctly.

To verify this i checked the wires plugged in the receiver and the speaker and all look the same, I have monoprice speaker wire which has a light blue on one wire and other with no color, all my speakers and receiver settings for wire are fine (the one with blue mark goes in black) and other in red i double checked this for all the wires.

I am not sure why the YPAO conclusion is displaying it as reverse. What might be wrong here?
