Not sure what has gone wrong with my yamaha rx-v671 aprox 14 months old but recently the speakers have started to make a pop noise when the amp powers on at the same time the relay clicks a few seconds after pressing the power button.

This also happens with nothing connected to the amps inputs and plugged in on its own

This has been back to richersounds for repair and has had some new parts (new mains lead, new digital board) but it has started doing the same thing when the amp is left in standby for any length of time, I have checked the wiring to the speakers cambridge audio min 10's 7.1 setup and see nothing wrong there (no loose connections) so what to do next ?

I am not happy to use my amp due to this speaker popping for fear it may damage the speakers as it can be rather loud at times, any help is much appreciated.
Thanks, Rich

You have done a good job of narrowing it down to the 671. Since it only recently started doing it it is not an electrical outlet. if you dont have the min volume set very high then it sounds like a bad amp. You can replace that with a 673 pretty cheap right now. Thats what I would do before risking speaker damage any longer.

thankyou for your reply, well as I experienced this morning the longer the amp is on standby (set with HDMI through selected) the louder the noise is from the speakers on power on as I got a reminder of this morning (loud pop from the rear speakers again).

I have spoken to Richersounds where i got it from and its off to be looked at again I sense something is wrong with the surround section of the amp as no abnormal noise is heard from the front speakers just the 4 rear speakers on power on.

I have set the amp to power on at low volume but thats not helped at all, its like something charges when the amp is in standby and discharges when the amp is turned on making the noise as mentioned.

The mains have been checked and the amp now runs on a mains conditioner and still the problem continues.

Has anyone been having an issue the last several weeks with SiriusXM Internet Radio not updating song/artist info after the first song changes? It just stays on the song/artist of the first song that began playing when you tuned the channel. Firmware 1.47 US. I've tried powering the unit, but it didn't fix the problem.

Did you recently update? I have been having problems with Rhapsody since the last update. Call Yamaha.

Updated back in the spring to 1.47. Worked fine for months, then all of the sudden noticed it doing this a few weeks ago.

Having an issue with my 16 month old Yamaha RX-V671 that I am not seeing listed elsewhere.
Checking to see if there is something else I should do before sending away for service.

Setup is a 7 speaker surround sound with no prior issues.
Noticed a lack of sound coming from "Surround Right" speaker recently.
Set the input coming into the receiver (Verizon FIOS STB) to a
music channel and set the receiver to Music 7 ch stereo. In the past, this always
leads to sound from all 7 speakers. Now, nothing from "Surround Right".

To check if it was a speaker issue, I took the speaker with no sound, unhooked the speaker wire
from Surround Right and hooked it up as "Surround Left". Speaker works.
This test should mean the speaker and the wire from speaker to receiver are both good.

I took a speaker with sound coming out of it previously, unhooked it from Surround Left and hooked it up to Surround Right. No sound.

Therefore it has to be the Surround Right port on the receiver ( I would think).
Have i missed anything I should test?

Well..I guess you now have a 5.1 system..seems like you checked it out ok..must be the receiver

Have you run the "Test Tone" to verify the receiver is outputing to all of the speakers?
ON SCREEN ---> SETUP ---> SPEAKER ---> MANUAL SETUP ---> TEST TONE

No sound received out of the "Surround Right" speaker for the test.
All other speakers functioned normally.

I am not surprised. I am definitely a neophyte with my knowledge of receivers.
Is this an odd problem to have?

No. Nothing odd about it. Should be an easy fix.

Are you looking for a particular fix that 1.50 is supposed to provide?
Not really , I have version 1.18 at the moment . All seems to work well with Kef eggs etc.
Just , that after reading the forums views on 1.47 , I became interested as to what had improved . How could an excellent product be improved ? was my thoughts.
So I contacted Yamaha and was told by email that the problems had been sorted in version 1.50 (with radio problems ) and asked would I like the version . Yes was my reply . . .
Point being , there seems no info on what has been updated through the versions to read . And no other versions on there site to pick from ? I was sent version 1.21 way back by request .
And before I had installed , yet another came out . Hats off to Yamaha for looking after their user base . They are the best to date for looking after their customers ,I have owned three so far and would continue .

Can you tell me what has been improved ?.
I can tell you what has not improved. I had problems with Rhapsody and Pandora ever since updating from 1.18 and noticed no improvement on anything else. The only one I dont know anything about is 1.50. Beware.
Beware ? ,because you think them bogus or just a beta ?

Because my experience was that they fixed nothing noticeable but did create problems that didnt exist before. Again, I cant speak for 1.50.
krik, please correct me if I wrong, recommends not updating unless you are having a specific problem. If everything is working well then dont bother. I completely agree.
And update via USB so that you have a copy in case the next one makes things worse. Then you can revert to the previous firmware.
Thank you for the advice , So as far as you know then 1.21 was not worth it either . Would have installed but not sure what to do now . Perhaps as the tech guy says , 1.50 corrects ? Will try and check out else where , thanks Bond .

yw If you can make a copy of 1.18 via USB then you can update to 1.50 and then revert back to 1.18 if it gives you problems. But, again, if youre not having problems I would not bother and you will probably not be able to find 1.18 anyway.

Even an official release has a chance of causing you problems. It's very difficult to test everything, because some issues only show up with certain combinations of equipment. e.g. they might have changed something in the HDMI handshake to fix a compatibility problem with a specific source or display, but as a side effect it might make the handshake fail with another device (perhaps yours!).

So I don't update unless I have a good reason to. If you do update and then want to go back, you might be able to get Yamaha support to send you an old version, but I wouldn't count on it.

Wanted to add some more info after testing last night.
Speaker does work when receiver initially turned on.
After a period of time while continuously on, "Surround Right" goes out and stays out.
Turn off receiver and wait a few hours and the same cycle starts again when
the receiver is powered on - works awhile and then stops.

Still going for service ...

Contacted Yamaha support. Request forwarded to Senior support. Received a call back today indicating that Yamaha is aware of the issue with song/artist info not updating on SiriusXM Internet Radio. Stated they are forwarding it to Japan for review and that hopefully it is fixed sometime in the future.

That sounds to me like a toss in the air as to whether or not it will ever be addressed in a future update.
