Any speaker recommendations? I've been considering the HSU Enthusiast 1 package with an extra set of HB-1 MK2 Horns, its over budget though would there be any other worthwhile options?
post #782 of 1960
forgive the bump I am ordering soon. I am going to buy the 671, is it worth it to buy two extra wall mount speakers to use Front Presence speaker option?? is the sound much better?, do they function on most Material? do they compare to Dolby plz11???
thanks for you help!

I have a problem with v671. My hdd player plays a 3D movie, with two images side by side...it goes to hdmi3 in yamaha v671, and then outputs to a splitter, one of the two outputs goes to a 3d projector (epson 3010), but projector does not recognize a 3d signal...where is the problem?? all hdmi wires are hdmi1.4.

wi-fi notebook (Asus, winXP) connected to RX-V671 with ethernet cable

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wondering why this doesn't work. When I call up PC under input it says no content. Should this work or am I delusional. The other choice would be a 25' ethernet cable to go from receiver to router. Or is it that WinXP is not compatible, only Win7? The notebook shows a strong wireless connection (54 mbps) and a second local area icon (100mbps) with no connectivity possibly because it is unable to acquire a network address. Are there some settings I'm missing.
post #785 of 1960
I get the same result with Win7 (wireless).
post #786 of 1960
Maybe we're both delusional...lol
post #787 of 1960
Ok, thanks. Does any one know how i can assign the optical input to the same input as the hdmi.

go to input menu (while onscreen option is on tv), scroll to hdmi being used 1,2,3 whatever, hit the up arrow on remote cross (above ok) there you will see options for different sound going with that hdmi port

I just got the Yamaha RX-V671 in yesterday & a couple of things are bugging me right off.

1: why does it seem to disable the internal speaker of the TV? I like to listen to music while monitoring TV in the background & this is a major setback, I can set it to play from the CD player or other source during video play but w/o TV audio because of this.

2: Whenever I change from any given source to TV the picture flashes for a couples seconds right after the picture comes on screen, this is MASSIVELY annoying.

Does anyone happen to know of a resolve fore these issues?.

Edit: OK I found out I needed to enable HDMI audio in settings to get the TV speaker to work but UNFORTUNATELY, now it just plays the same audio feed (music) through the TV speakers rather than TV audio. :-/

These are not "issues", but normal HDMI behavior. Is this your first HDMI setup?

No, not exactly, I've had HDTV, set top, box & HD cable since 2007, 1st HDMI tuner though, I suppose I'll have to just run the HDMI cable directly into the TV, as I have been doing, rather than the tuner to get around this, but is it too much to ask that the TV would be able to play whats on the screen rather than the audio that is playing on the tuner? I mean if the video source can be alternated why not the audio???
Plus I've NEVER had this video glitching issue before, switching between video sources on my TV its not just right at the device change as might be expected, its a few seconds after the picture is displayed & seems really sloppy.

It's not really clear what your issue is, but it sounds more like a setup issue than anything with the AVR itself.

If the TV is set to the HDMI input that the AVR is connected to, there's no reason to expect the TV audio to work at all. The AVR will not send any audio to the TV with default settings. If you set the AVR to send audio over HDMI to the TV, you will be locked to 2-ch audio in the AVR due to HDMI handshakes with the source device.

HDMI handshakes normally take 2-3 seconds and result in a black screen by design. This will happen any time you change inputs or the content itself changes resolution. Welcome to the world of HDCP.

Exception: If CEC is set up and working properly (some posters report trouble with Samsung displays), multichannel will be achieved in the AVR when set to send audio over HDMI to the TV.

Addendum: I'm off today with nothing better to do, so I disabled CEC on both my AVR (V867) and my televisions (Panasonic and Sony) and tested whether multichannel will be achieved in the AVR when it's set to send audio over HDMI to the TV. With the following parameters, Dolby Digital is displayed on the AVR's front panel and on the television's screen through AVR's OS menu:

AVR: audio over HDMI enabled (both outs), CEC disabled, "straight" processing, latest AVR firmware;
Panasonic: Audio set to allow through tv's speakers and CEC disabled;
Sony: Same as Panasonic;
Source: Directv;
Programming: Some show with a Dolby Digital soundtrack.

Clearly, with my setup, I'm achieving multichannel in the AVR with audio set to be sent via HDMI to the televisions, even without CEC activated (which makes my initial reply incorrect). I'm hopeful that someone will be able to explain this behavior, because I can't. Are results dependent on the model AVR, firmware update, make of television, or what?

I have read all I can about this. Seems there has not been a final resolution.

Issue: TV Scene button defaults to AV4 for audio. I don't have anything hooked up to AV4 so there is no sound.

I don't want to use AV4 as the audio input. I want to use the HDMI2 input to run Video and Audio. Why would I want to use optical cable from TV or from Cable Box? I should be able to just run 1 HDMI cable from Cable Box to AVR. As far as the ARC, I don't feel I should have to run HDMI from TV ARC to AVR. This sounds like an extra signal transfer to me. I should be able to go Cable Box > AVR > TV with 1 HDMI sending the Video and Audio, not Cable Box > AVR > TV > AVR.

Quick Fix: I press the TV Scene button and it goes to HDMI2 video and AV4. Pressing the TV Scene button a 2nd time will direct audio to HDMI. This works, but I shouldn't have to press anything else once I press the TV Scene button.

Request for final solution: TV Scene button needs the option to select Audio HMDI inputs so I can set up Audio and Video to go directly to HDMI2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

First, ensure that HDMI 2 is selected as your audio source under the AVR's input settings. See pages 79 and 80 of your OM. Then, power up the AVR, press the HDMI 2 button on your AVR remote, select sound parameters, and then press and hold the TV scene button until there is an indication on the AVR's front display panel that the scene button settings have been set.

I'm pretty beat right now I work 3rd shift & though I'm off Thursday-Friday I was up all night rearranging my living room for 7.1 to come unboxing/hooking up the RX-V671 was the last step so I wasn't at a mental peak & now ready to really fade out, regardless to my knowledge Sony Bavaria KDL-46V300 doesn't support CEC as its pretty old at this point so I don't think this would apply to me. Regarding the "black screen by design" rdgrimes mentioned I thought I made it clear that the screen glitch occurred well post the handshake after the screen clearly displayed the present channel feed. I've had this TV 4 years so I'm well used to typical HDMI glitches & crappy HDTV feeds, trust me (I live in the Midwest US cable feeds are the worst...) this was something different & pretty annoying. I'll have to see how my Popcorn Hour C-200 fairs when I get to it, as is my HD cable box is out of the game on direct connect so I can multitask my audio, this is a must in my life.

Beat me to the punch on this one I learn that pretty quick suffice to say my brains are not totally fried.

If you're going to continue with cable box to AVR, a new HDMI cable might fix your video blink problem, which is not normal if it's occurring after the "black screen by design." On the other hand, if you switch to cable box to TV, your current HDMI cable might suffice.

Lots of people who post on this site want to know how to watch TV while listening to music. Assuming you want to watch TV with the ability to listen to the TV program's audio through the TV's speakers while also listening to music through the AVR's speakers, I can't think of a way to accomplish this other than connecting the cable box to the TV. (Using a splitter wouldn't offer an advantage assuming your cable box provides no higher audio than Dolby Digital.)

I was able to get rid of the picture flash, by setting the receiver to stop checking monitor resolution, and manually inputing the res.
Hope this helps,

I tried to connect the cabel box to HDMI 1, and then out to the TV using HDMI to DVI conversion cable from Monoprice.com. Problem is I could not get the video to display. Sometimes it is snow, sometimes flashing green and for a while it is the cable picture with fine red lines and a flickering picture. The real kicker is originally the cable box was connected via HDMI to DVI directly to the TV and th epciture was fine.

Please help if you can.
Thanks.

Equipment:
Cable box: Motorola DCX3400; Comcast Xfinity.
Receiver: RX-V671
TV: Mitsubishi WT-42315

Thanks, I'll give this a try if it becomes an issue with the Popcorn Hour C-200.
Another thing that really bugs me is that Zone 2 is only analog, why would you make a channel non-digital??? My set up is in the living room & I have a set of speakers in the dinning area room for listening when in kitchen or bathroom so having Zone 2 was a major perk that I was looking forward to having, just about all my audio content is digital (CD or PC on HDMI connection), my main PC is still XP, so I can't use it to stream. I've been slow to move to 7 as the setup is a bear of a migration as I have it, but this is another reason to push a move I guess.

Even though I think you already know this, I'll post it anyway: If you connect patch cords from your music source to the AVR, you're good to go.

manual page 69:

"Only analog audio signals (including radio, USB and network sources) can be
output to Zone2. To listen to playback sounds of an external device in Zone2, you
need to connect the device to the AUDIO jacks (AV5~6, AUDIO1~2 or VIDEO AUX
jacks) of this unit".

Not true, I am listening to pandora Internet radio on zone 2 as my son has his xbox360 playing in zone 1 as I am typing this, remote can control volume for each separately, pandora is accessed from ethernet cable and

How do they consider pandora analog

Will try iTunes from pc in zone 2 soon

I guess for the same reason they consider network sources analog, I don't know, but the limitation exists & as stated CD & PC HDMI connected devices will not play w/o an analog hookup (like my living room really needs another couple snakes is the nest...).
post #808 of 1960
Then at this point it is simply a case or wording, the the manual should state no hdmi sources in zone 2, as I am typing this I am listening to iTunes collection on win7 pc running serviio media center ( as recommended by someone on this forum, thank you) in zone 2 while my wife is listening to a U2 cd in zone 1

Any digitally hard connected devices, including optical, will not play.
