yup no digital direct connections sent to zone 2 (hdmi or optical) but songs on pc or pandora are fine

Try downloading free media software called serviio, I have a win7 pc that the 671 found on the network but I kept getting access denied even though all my data was shared, serviio was very easy to set up (sharing 900 title cd collection ripped into iTunes), BTW my new Panasonic plasma also finds my serviio pc and all my iTunes data (Panasonic 50s30)

will the 671 work with XP? or only windows 7??

Personally I find the GUI to be as ugly & clunky as has been stated elsewhere, I'd rather just play off my PC into the tuner but Zone 2 does work this way, but the music seems slightly out of sync between zones, also flac tags don't seem to display, yeah, too many shortcomings to make this kind of playback worthwhile.

W/o messing with firewalls, I connected my wife's laptop (Win 7) and same message under PC, "no content." This laptop is wi fi'd to my router.

I'm in a speaker buying conundrum, I was pretty set on getting a HSU Enthusiast 1 package + 2 HB-1 MK2, but I've been looking at Jamo S606 systems & thinking that + 2 Jamo bookshelf's & the HSU VTF-1 subwoofer might be the way to go at a better cost for this receiver, any thoughts? My room size is 16.5' x 14.5' btw.

I was advised in the speaker forum to break in towers by allowing the full spectrum to work. Doing so allows the tower's woofer to exercise with the lower frequencies. If a sub is attached, the suggestion was to go double bass. Searches revealed setting this as it applied to Audessy, so I am trying to do the equivalent with the Yamaha.

Is the Yamaha's setting called Extra Bass setting to On where both front speakers and subwoofer produce the front channel low-frequency components (requiring that the front speakers be set to Large) the equivalent of Audessy's double bass effect, which occurs when mains are set to Large and sub is set to LFE + Mains?

I found out that the answer is yes. Deepstang on the speaker forum said it's a nomenclature difference, but it's the same thing.

Got this receiver for Xmas and I'm liking it better then the denon 1912 I borrowed for a before Xmas party.

Anyways I'm looking to see if there are two things I can do that I can't figure out

1. Can I play songs off my iPhone/iPod directly from the device rather then using the receiver controller to browse my phone. If someone wants to play a song from their phone they have to plug in, grab remote and sort thru on screen GUI. Kind of a pain. Maybe there is a way around this.

2. Can u have your tv on and have it play audio from a different source/input? I haven't been able to figure that out either. Would be cool to be able to watch a game with music playing if wanted

I decided to go with a set of Jamo C607 (front) 2 sets of Jamo C603 (side & rear) Jamo C60 CEN (center) & the HSU VTF-1 subwoofer (if the sale doesn't end before I can get the cash together, as the questionable sales staff is being vague as to when it ends). hope it works out, I'm a good grand over what I had originally had anticipated, all the peripheral items didn't help.

Also, I'm going through the Popcorn Hour C-200 audio settings and there are options on PCM, AAC, WMA Pro, STS & Dolby Digital to set to Downmix or Passthrough, the default is downmix but shouldn't I with this receiver change to Passthrough as it can handle it raw?

1. plug iphone into front usb and control from phone
2. yes, go in onscreen set up select input ...say hdmi1 (where you cable/sat is) hit the up arrow on select section you should see video and audio selections, set rhe audio to an input other than hdmi1, say av1 or net you can then watch a football game off your cable box while listening to pandora radio (or whatever combo makes you happy)

You can also use an Apple AirPort Express to do this. Many on here (including me) use the AE as a wireless ethernet bridge for the V671, but it also adds wireless playback through the receiver from your iPhone/iPad. No cable needed in that case, just play music that's on your phone and hit the Airplay button.

as soon as I plug in my phone via USB it says iPhone accessory connected and won't allow me to change any songs physically on the phone. It makes you use the remote and scroll thru the songs on the tv rather then from ur phone. Rather annoying.

Yes you can, if you have home network and wifi. Just download the Yamaha AV Controller from the app store. No need to set up. 671 and your iphone/ipod will recognize each other.

82 bucks minimum for the YBA-10 Bluetooth receiver? I wouldn't bother.

yes it will. the latest update lets you stream music from your iphone to your 671 using your home wifi. see attached picture. the right side of the 'Main' with the music notes and wave is the button to send music to your 671 from your phone. its just like listening music using your iphone but the sounds comes out of your receiver. it's perfect and it's pretty cool.

Is the iPhone sending music directly to the 671 or to your 3D blu-ray player that is passing on to the 671?

My apologies if this is a stupid question, I'm kinda new to the whole home theatre scene. I've read the owners manual a few times, and all the messages in this thread, and the rx-a710 thread. I have a new rx-v671, and I noticed when watching the blu-ray of ironman2 last weekend, which according to the cover is dts-hd MA, (the 671 is connected to sony bd player via hdmi cable) when hitting the info button on the remote, it toggles between, input, DSP program which was "straight" and decoder which said "PCM", I checked the audio setup on the top dvd menu, and it was set for dts 5.1. It sounded great, from all 5 speakers, yet display said PCM. Im a little confused about that? any ideas.

Check the audio settings on your Blu-ray player. Something is not set properly.

well, this is a Yamaha AV Controller app. so it is sending music directly to your yamaha 671 receiver unless you also have a yamaha 3d bluray player which it can also control. see attached pix.

Hi vzDean1600, appears to a setting in the BD player. Check that Audio (HDMI) is set to "Auto" and BD Audio is set to "Direct" or "Off".

When your Blu-ray player is set to PCM the Blu-ray player is decoding the audio, when the blu-ray player is set to bitstream, it's sending the audio down the line to be decode (like by the RX-V671 receiver).

Try using TVersity Media Server in your XP PC. It's a free DLNA server app and works great with my XP PC and RX-V671.

That was it! in the sony manual under "BD audio setting" the two choices where mix and direct. setting to direct was the ticket. Thanks everyone for the help. I have learned a ton reading thru all the posts in this thread. This receiver is awesome, sounds miles better than my old Sony STR-DE595.

I have recently purchased a v671 and bought a netgear wireless Internet adapter to network my receiver. The info screen shows the receiver is connected, but I can't use access Internet radio. Any suggestions? Did I miss a step?

I'm not sure if this was answered, but it doesn't matter if you're using windows xp/7 /mac/linux etc... what you're trying to do is tough if not impossible. What you're trying to do is use the laptop as a wireless bridge... that could work, but honestly, nobody is going to figure that out except a network engineer... it's not reasonably possible.

First you would need a crossover cable to go from a end point (laptop) to another endpoint (receiver), and you would need to configure the wireless adapter to bridge, and all sorts of crazy stuff... let's not go there. Buy a purpose built "wireless bridge" aka wireless game adapter and that will do what you want... If you don't care about using the laptop for anything but having the laptop play on the receiver, set both the receiver and laptop to static addresses NOT on the same subnet as your wireless. So like if your wireless is 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.255 set both laptop wired adapter and receiver to 192.168.2.3 and 4 respectively... something like that. Don't try and use the windows laptop as a bridge/router, that's just a headache and then some. But the receiver won't then be able to browse the internet, just the laptop.
