why Plasma still can't compete LCD brighteness, where's 10 Lumen tech? according following link page 13: 10 lumen tech should allow 800-1000 cd/m2, 2 times than typical LCD

Why do you need 1000nit?? That's for outdoor display. Recommended brightness is around 120nit for home viewing, and probably you can argue to double for non-dark environment. Sure it supposedly will give better contrast but not sure if better for your eyes. That's why plasma focus is primarily on the denominator: MLL.

Main purpose of 10 lumen tech I think is more for energy efficiency to match LCD, and hopefully able to remove ABL altogether.

Numbers and specs aside, current Plasmas are more than bright enough for most home environments. I like a bright screen and i watch a lot of racing and sports during the daytime in my bright room, and i only have my 2009 G10's Contrast setting at 80% in Custom mode so i'm not even using all the available panel brigthness as it is. And newer models are even brighter than mine.

I can't imagine many people needing their TV to be any brighter than current Plasmas are.

I agree. I watch sports in the daytime in the custom mode as well, with plenty of headroom to spare.

Same here. My 2008 TH46PZ800U is set at 78% brightness in the Custom mode and looks great in my multi windowed, west facing, family room. The Masters looked great yesterday afternoon. Just don't use the dim, lifeless, THX mode! Too many people think plasmas need to be in the dark to look good.

Sounds like the same thing with digital cameras and megapixels.

Some guy wanted to tell me his point and shoot 12MP camera was in everyway "better" than my 8MP Canon Rebel XT with $500+ lenses. Yeah, buddy...keep thinking that. For one, the quality isn't there, and for him.....even if it did have the quality...his needs/wants would never need 12MP's, much less the 8MP I had.

No, everyone does not know this because it's not true. You don't speak for everyone.

The higher end LCD and LED LCD TVs look even worse than a Plasma in a brightly lit environment because they now have glossier screens than the mid-to-high-end Plasmas do so they're more reflective. Things have changed a lot over the past few years. You can see this for yourself by going to BB or Sears and looking at the reflections of the overhead lights in the screens.

I have a Kuro Elite PRO151FD that sits 6 feet away from a large bay window that is 10 feet long and 4.5 feet high and it has never been an issue for me. Plenty bright and whites are white to me as I watch a lot of hockey.

As Randy said if you get an LCD with a gloss screen like one of the Samsung ultra clear panels they are far more reflective than a decent plasma with any type of capable AR filter.

I have no evidence but I would speculate that as technology enables higher lumens per watt the manufacturers use this enabling technology to reduce the operational power and component size and cost rather than improve brightness. Panasonic seems to be at least attempting to increase brightness with NeoPDP techs.

Also, a good portion of the efficiency improvements come from improving UV generation. More UV per watt of power. IMO this may pose a problem with increased phosphor wear rate.
