Official Samsung 2011 PNxxD6500 (PNxxD6900 in Canada?) Thread - Page 9

Blwn... you know the D6500 does not have the same reflective filter as the 7000/8000? There have not been any reports of trouble on the 6500. Its the real black filter that has the peeling issue that some are reporting. Have you tried the hack on this set to see how it works and what it adds to your set?
Have not tried the hack on the 6500 yet. Unsure if I'm going to the hack was good for the d550 cause u get the 10pt Cali but with this set you already have it. I don't like how you have to cross match the hdmi to make them work. And I don't want to do that with this set. Well see if I get bored I'll do it and see what it does and post it

Blwn281,

i am wondering do you see any glare and crosstalk on 3dtv on either D550 or D6500 if you have ur room totaly dark? if you are watching 3d movies.
I haven't seen any of the fluctuating brightness or pops yet. Was it on game mode? I'm having difficulty getting the black bars to be inky black. They barely seem better than my 4 year old samsung lcd. Other than that, I love this tv.

It was on movie mode

Glare from outside light? Only a little on both sets. The difference between the 6500 and the d550 I find to be minimal. And what do u mean by cross talk?

ghosting and crosstalk are the samething.

So as if it's not shape and has a shadow? I seen that in the d550 but was able to correct it with the settings in the menu. Haven't tried 3G on my 6500 yet

There's an app for it

No brightness pops on my ukd6900 but there are reports of it on the uk avforums.
The problem I have is when watching sports and the camera pans I have the "dirty screen effect" on the grass where it looks like different shades of green all over as it pans.
It isn't only on sports it's everywhere. On the film UP is a good example as there are loads of panning with the light blue sky in the background and as it pans the sky breaks up into different shades of blue.
Just wondering if anyone has noticed this on the US models.
I've got a replacement coming Thursday so I'll see if it's a problem across the range as a few guys are noticing it now over at avforums. The problem is once you see it once you start seeing and looking for it every time the camera pans.

Browsing through the 50-59" stands on the site it doesn't seem to show up. Remember the name by any chance?

mine's calibrated using one the settings posted here, with DC off and playing GT5 tonight (yes I just bought it), noticed that at the start of the race, the brightness pops are there. Depending on the track/license test its not as bad, but I see what people are talking about now.

its actually for a D7000, using LarryInRI's settings.

Its strange because I didn't notice the flashing in TV or Xmen on the BR player (I should note that before calibration it did the dimming thing during the credits), nor through USB. I'll check again for the settings, but I believe DC is actually off by default in Movie mode..maybe I should try game mode for ps3?

are you getting inky blacks? mine still seem kinda light black/dark grey. or maybe i'm too picky. it's just the black bars during a movie aren't as black as the bezel which is what i wanted. anyone achieving this with the D6500 without getting crushed blacks? what settings do you use?
just got my set delivered today. sure seems shaky on the stand. will comment more as i get to spend more time with it.
Strongly considering the 6500, but also the ST30. They seem to be right at the same price area. Any of you actually do a side by side between these two sets when making your decision?

I did an ST30 search on this thread and it didn't yield much.

anyone have any thoughts on whether I should keep the BD-D5500 3d blu-ray player that came bundled with the TV or just use my PS3?

Ps3 is one of the best blu ray players available. Put the samsung player in another room.

My D6500 was delivered yesterday from hhgregg and I love it. $1900 for set, 3D starter kit (all 5 movies and two sets of glasses) and BD-D5500 3D blu-ray player, delivered, tax, done!

It replaced a nearly 6 year-old Sammy DLP that was nothing but trouble the past few months. Have a 40 LCD Samsung in the bedroom for the past four years that is a great set.

Just FIOS HD progamming, a little blu-ray concert and MLB-TV via the built in network apps. Having the audio return channel on my receiver makes a world of difference with content coming from the TV -- sounds great.

I don't find it that warm. Not a big 3D fan but since it was part of the package, we'll have to give it a try.

So the d6500 has an hdmi return channel so I can get audio from Netflix etc. through my receiver?? Do I need a special receiver??

Only d8000 has ARC, if I´m not mistaken.

the blacks are fine in tv and movies..its the ps3 settings that I'm playing with now

I tried game mode today and then fooling with the rgb, superwhite, and deep color settings. Limited seems to produce "better" blacks.

Thought I'd post my settings that I am using for my TV. I have done a lot of testing, with many blu-rays and have tried nearly all of the calibration settings. In my opinion these are the ones that satisfy me the most.
