Hi everyone.. I need a little help here... I don't know if i made a good move on a tv.. Yesterday I was at futureshop... And i was looking at the PN51D6900... and the bluray menu was still on the screen.. I think it's IR ?? Im a little bit concern.. Cuz I bought the PN59D6900 and will have the tv this week...It's my first plasma.. so im little bit concern about that problem.. Im a gamer and a movie lover... For 500$ more I was able to get the UN55D6900 the Led version.. Mistake or not??

Yes, lots of online stores and b&m stores offer the kit as well. I just bought at best buy and got the kit too.

Just received my 59" D6500 yesterday and wanted to post my review and impressions.

So far I have watched Tron Legacy 3D, and The dark knight. The 3d was EXCELLENT. Not once did I see any crosstalk or ghosting. It was fantastic. I debated heavily about saving some money and not buying a 3D TV, but after watching Tron I know I made the right choice. The Dark Knight was fantastic as well. I used the settings posted in another thread and was blown away by the imax shots. I have seen no issues with brightness shifts or rising blacks. I also have had NO BUZZING and I sit 6.8 feet from the TV on a stand with hardwood floors. Ienjoyed the smart TV apps and the menu navigates quickly and smoothly. I always hate those slow menus where you press the button and it takes a half second to move thru it. This navigates as quickly as you can press the button. Very fluid. The design is stunning and looks so great.

The TV has met and exceeded my every expectation. I believe the D6500 is the "sweet spot" in the samsung plasma lineup where you get the most bang for you buck. I think you sacrifice too much to drop down to the 550 and I don't think it is worth the extra $$$ to go to the 7000/8000 UNLESS you watch during the day often in a lit room. My apartment has floor to ceiling windows along the whole wall and I had no problems watching the TV during the late afternoon. My biggest debate prior to buying was between this and the 7000 because I was REALLY worried about glare with my huge windows. But I do most of my watching and gaming at night. Now that I have the TV here I am glad I did not spend more for the RBF on the 7000 because it would have been unnecessary.

Overall, this is a fantastic TV and I believe it was worth every single penny.

New idea. I'm really big on the whole 3D movies and gaming. I love it. Rather than dropping $800 for the d8000 would it be worth it to go with a d550 and get the 64" vs. The 59" 6500? My viewing distance is 12'. Right now I have a loaner 51d550 and am waiting for my 59d6500. It should be in next week so I have a week to decide what I should do. Is there benefit to having a bigger tv when watching 3D? Or will the experience be the same on the 59 as the 64?

Thanks for the calibration settings for the PN59D6500 Novaspyder . I'm gonna try em out on mine & see how they look. Been searching for calibration settings for this TV, but haven't come across any good ones yet, so I hope these do the trick nicely.

Anyone know if there's a way to enable audio return channel on this TV similar to how you could change the model on the C-series in the service menu?

That'd save me from having to take the whole thing off the wall, pulling a new cable, and installing different connector plates...

one last question....how are you choosing cinema smooth? Its is always blacked out for me....I have my ps3 hooked up, but its wasn't allowing it as a choice.

I believe you can only turn cinema smooth on when you have a 24p source, such as playing a blu ray movie or dvd

The D6500 doesn't have an ARC. Only the 8000 does.

So looks like I will be getting the D6900 as the D7000 is not sold here in Canada. Now the only thing I'm a little concerned about is the brightness problem some people are reporting. I'm a little confused about this problem. So many threads to go through and I still don't understand it. Is it a problem where the brightness just goes dim and then brightens back to normal randomly regardless of what your watching. I see a lot of people are happy with the TV, but If the TV does dim and brighten randomly, I find that a very good reason to return a TV or just don't buy it. It seems the D7000 has a similar issue. Can someone clarify. Thanks.

It has not done this on my 59D7000 since I moved Dynamic Contrast from the default "high" setting to low or off.

I am sorry to throw things off cue, but my eyes are getting bleary from all the reading on this set. I hope someone out there can help guide my hand a little better based on my priority. I recently had my Samsung hl56a650 DLP die on me and samsung made an offer to trade up, (albeit with $900 out of my pocket), to the UN55D6000 or, (for $500 out of pocket), the PN51D6500 .
My priority is on gaming. Specifically ps3. Would this be a solid tv that would perform well?
My fear is that of burn in. I have two young boys that can absolutely leave things paused and forget about them. Is this still an issue?
With my priority in mind, am I better off going with the led option that they gave me?

Yeah, I know, but I remember there were some features on the C series (like MJC) that you could turn on by changing the TV model in the service menu (as discussed here). Seems reasonable to me that there's a chance that ARC is a software / firmware feature that could be enabled. Just throwin' it out there...

IR isn't a problem on the 6500. I play a lot of games and nothing. If you are worried bout your kids, turn on the auto off features on your ps3 and put em on the shortest time possible, do the same for the TV. But if you are really worried go with the worse LED if need be. Saves you the the headache ut sacrifices PQ, unless you like bland colors and poor viewing angles.

The 6500 is worth the extra care + work especially for 400$ less. That's alot of steak you can buy!

Your better off with the d6500 especially for gaming. The gaming lag on the plasma d6500 is less than the led version 16ms vs 33 ms. I have had the tv for over a month and it's excellent when it comes to gaming.

Well here's my dilemma. I have already paid but not yet received a pn59d6500. I paid $2300 tax in for the tv 4 glasses 4 shriek movies and a 4 yr warranty. My toss up is 1. do I go down to the d550 spend the extra $700 and get a 64" 2. Spend the $700 diff and get the pn59d8000. 3. Or do I just stick with the 6500 and save myself the cash?

My tv is going in a living room fairly well lit up during the day. At night there is one light I usually like to keep on. I'll be using the tv for mostly hd tv movies and lots of gaming. I sit about 12' to as close as 6' away from the tv and it will be wall mounted. I wouldn't use the skype on the 8000. I like the bezel of the 8000. And don't like the thickness of the 550.

Please help me with any suggestions cause I have to pay (if changing) and pick up the tv today and I'm so confused. If I don't have to spend the xtra cash I'd rather not. But I like to have the best of the best.

stick with the 6500.....with what you are looking to use it for.....its perfect! I wouldn't sit farther than 9 feet at any point....even if you went for the 64....seems like you loose the detail of the 1080p....but that's me. Save the money and stick with what u ordered and you will love it!

Agreed.

The D550 would be too reflective for his environment.

The D6500 has a AR coating; and it's a good deal, overall.

I wouldn't go for the D8000 unless you needed the extra features; it doesn't sound like you do, so better to save the $, and stay with D6500.

How does it compare with last year's C7000?

I had a problem with my C7000 and need to buy another one, I'm just not happy with the lack of the checkerboard 3d and the fact of my glasses wouldn't work with it.


Any place is offering glasses with the set?

Wow great insight here regarding D6500. There aren't many reviews out there for this TV, it doesn't even show up on Samsung's Website which is very strange. I found this TV by "accident" as I went to local brandsmart to get UN46D6400 LED after detailed research until my wife pointed out D6500 and she goes... Why don't we get this tv, it's same price and "bigger" (this made me chuckle). This threw me off completely because I had no clue about this model but after reading many reviews here of this TV, I think it might be a good idea to go with d6500 instead of d6400 LED. What you guys think? I have a relatively small living room and most of tv watching is at night. As long as IR or heating up aren't a issue with plasmas anymore.. I am willing to jump on this..

Ok so I took a trip to Future Shop and they finally had a PN59D6900 on the wall. They had Lord Of The Rings Blu Ray playing. I was watching for the brightness pops. I'm happy to say I didn't see any. I watched the transition from dark to bright to dark scenes and still nothing but an amazing picture. I likey, so I'm gonna take the dive and pick one up. Done!

So decided to get the pn59d6500. It's on order and comes in in a week. Thanx for all your guys help deciding. I'll post pictures and tell u what I think about the glare n etc when I receive it. What's this I keep hearing about people running slides for hrs on end. What's that all about. Is it necessary and if so where do I get them. This is my first plasma btw.

I bought this TV about 2 weeks ago, then exchanged it because it was damaged for a LED LCD, BIG MISTAKE. The picture cannot compare! Needless to say I am returning the LED and going with the PNxxD6500 again.

Anyway I was somewhat concerned about the buzzing because I am very sensitive to mechanical noise, my last LCD had a buzzing that drove me nuts. To be honest the buzz is evident but it is quite faint, I could hear it if it is very quiet but its not loud or annoying and it wasnt hard to filter out.

Just my two cents.
