Official Samsung 2011 PNxxD6500 (PNxxD6900 in Canada?) Thread - Page 31

Okay so here is my first impression on my PN51D6500...AMAZING! Me and my GF watched bolt yesterday and it was impressive! better than the 46 LED Sammy we had before. I just used the relax settings for now and when I first turned it on I think it upgraded to the 1015 firmware.

The only thing is when I'm not watching any content just on a blank screen I can hear buzzing coming from the tv, sort of in the middle of it. Is this the buzzing noise everyone is talkin about?

Should I ask for it to get serviced?

Can you hear the buzzing noise with normal volume?

I haven't tried that yet, but should I use the regular tv seakers? I currently have it connected to a 2.1 through my mac mini(htpc)

Buzzing is naturalfor plasmas but if its loud when you are playing content I'd get it checked. I had to replace my screen 3 times before the buzzing was acceptable. The buzzing could be heard during conversations at almost reference level

oh really? the buzz? I could barely hear it unless I get real close. When playing content I can't hear it so I guess I'm okay if its actually a natural thing for plasmas.

A bit. Will it work when watching a HD show off the dish or cable?

OK, wow. I just watched a little bit of a movie (The Two Towers) during the day for the first time ever in a room with plenty of sunlight and lamp light and, contrary to one of the number one "cons" (now myth to me) I see no adverse effects!

Has anybody else had a similar experience?

A family member is considering which HDTV to get right now and has been shying away from plasma because of all the information/misinformation on how they don't perform as well as LCD in anything other than a sub-lithosphere cave. Well, now, I'm going to invite him over to see this plasma in action during the middle of the day and let his eyes see how well this plasma performs.

I'm guessing that as technology has progressed, this issue has greatly improved, but our perception of this issue has not. I think that the public's perception is exaggerating this "con" and, in reality, it's not nearly as bad as many of us think or is even non-existent on some sets (such as the PN59D6500).

I dont believe so. My understanding is that Cinemasmooth is only available when the tv senses hdmi connected devices such as dvd players. I have not tested other connectionslike a PS3 or my laptop etc.

Cinemasmooth should only be available when a 24 fps signal is being received such as a blu ray or dvd. If your source player doesn't send a 24 fps signal then it won't allow for the cinemasmooth option (such as tv shows on blu ray). it essentially changes the tv to 96hz (24 X 4 = 96) so that it is shown at 24 fps (the way it was intended).

it seems that I can only hear the buzzing if my ears are at the same height...lol

I have had my PN51D6500 for about 2 weeks now and enjoying it. Apart for irregular flashes during hockey games (sometimes not all) I have not experienced the brightness pops as described by many. I recall someone posting somewhere (but I cant refind) some of the locations within "Dark Knight" that produced these pops. I have the Blu Ray version and would like to check some of the "exact" locations/scenes/chapter #s (parts of the movie) when these "flashes" were experienced.

Part of me says not to...but I guess I'd rather know since there is a fix now.

Thank you.

Matz, are you going to add a center speaker?

I had the pn59d550 for 3 weeks and could not stand all brightness pops it was getting. So i returned it to bestbuy and found a pn59d6500 at hgregg, which only cost me a extra $119 difference from the d550. Overall i am happy i went up to d6500, the picture looks a lot better then my d550 did among other things. Just need to get it cailibrated by a professional now.

Hey Jeff,

Congrats on the 6500! Look back a few pages and you'll find my calibrated settings. See if those change anything for you

My 51" had a stuck light pink pixel. I couldn't see it from my viewing distance no matter how hard I tried so I just let it go as I didn't want to return the set. I haven't looked for it since I got the TV 6 months ago so I don't even know if it is still there.

Thanks, will defiantly try those out. One thing i did notice tonight was i fired up my 360 and went to play some mx vs atv alive. I put from 16:9 to screen fit, after you finish the race a blue screen pops up with medals you earned. I noticed this line down the left side of the tv while it was on this screen.

But it only appeared on this screen above. it was not visible while playing.
So i put it on the rgb blue to see if it would pop back up again, but it does not appear to be there.

I was just curious if anyone else has experienced this or if i should be worried about. Since i was not able to duplicate with another screen or video, im assuming it just a mess up in the game.
I also just noticed some lines across the top and bottom edges while watching hulu.Is this normal for screen fit???
The hulu example yes. Screen fit from what I've seen is no overscan at all. If you set it to 16x9 the lines should disappear but you lose some of the sides (2.5% )

Screenfit does 1 to 1 pixel mapping.

Not having any problems with my Samsung PN59D6500. However, I do find the display setup frustrating. I haven't found a way to do a simple zoom to get rid of the black bars at the side (4:3) or top (16:9) while maintaining the correct aspect ratio. My Panasonic 50PX600U does this with the "Zoom" setting, no fuss no, drilling down 50 menu levels. etc, etc.

Has anyone found a way to zoom like this on all (any?) sources with the PN59D6500?

Thanks,

Keith

i was watching sliders last on hulu and the only way i could get rid the of the side bars was with wide fit. It didn't look stretched, just looked like i lost a few inches of the picture but got rid of the side bars..

I just bought a 60" 6500 from BestBuy for a great price, plus they included two paris of glasses.

I found some settings on Plasma TV Buying Guide, has anyone tried these yet?

I'm looking forward to this TV since I could not find a LED that had good quality, the Sharp Aquos was the best, but clouding got the best of me.
