Thoroughly amazing. After 6-7 weeks of calls -- hours on the phone with Samsung -- and an acknowledgement from Samsung that the firmware would not be updated/the app would not work, last Friday Executive Customer Relations finally authorized an exchange.

Long story short, I was given a credit at HHGregg equal to my purchase price. Went in there this evening and plunked down an additional $500 for the PN60E7000 (I got a really good deal last June) -- it's to be delivered on Saturday. Getting ready to go to bed, I check the forum for the first time in a week and see the post before mine. Five minutes later, the firmware is updated and MLBTV is working once again.

Part of me wants to throw a rock through the screen and await the new TV on Saturday.

Recognizing that is a bit emotional and foolish, and I otherwise really love this TV, I think I'll just cancel the order for the E7000.

what do people think would be a good price to pay for this 2nd hand, 50" model? Talking to someone on Craigslist that has it up for sale. How has it been holding up? what is the current software version? Don't really care that much about the smart tv stuff as i have a ps3, or about the 3d, the set does bring any and i wont buy glasses just to try it out. But i have read it has a good picture. Got the person down to $600, but thinking of getting the lg 50pa5500 instead which will be $499 at bjs new later this week. How do they compare, again don't care about the smart tv or 3d, just want a nice 1080p plasma. Is Samsung better than lg, or are they comparable?

I have the d6900 model from Canada ..If you go in the service menu and change the tv from pn51d6900 to pn51d7000(doing so will reset ur settings and calibrations) you will get 50,000,000 more in the contrast and much smother motion ...The tv is dumbed down by Samsung but hacking it turns it into a 7000 its exactly the same tv ...just like the d550 that opens up 10 pt white balance this d6900 hack opens up better processing and more colours.This hack works for sure on the d6900 I have done this myself others try and confirm if it works on d6500...

What "hack" is this that you speak of just renaming the tv in the service menu? so what exactly did you notice that was different?

I own the PN51D6500 and have had the set calibrated using d3pro meter. The picture is wonderfull. I would recommend this tv. I would not recommend the LG. I think right now in terms of picture quality the samsung and panasonics are on top same goes for blacks. 600 bucks seems like a good deal. I bought mine for $1400 brand new last year.
