I need help chosing a sub.

I've been trying to find a nice little sub to compliment my m-audio av40s, i listen mainly to all things rock, I'm looking for a somewhat refined and punchy bass, I don't want just a Booom Booom booom. The BIC f-12 at 206$ Is the highest I can afford. I've been looking at the Polk Audio PSW10 but it being only an RMS of 50 concerns me and it's price of 89$ but it'd allow me to upgrade my soundcard. There's also this Polk Audio PSW110. I'd look into the dayton sun-10 and 120 too if amazon gets them again. I honestly don't know how big my room is but the sub would be pretty much right under me as it's for my computer.

Given the fact you are pretty much sitting on the sub you can get by on a few brands. I have the Bic PL-200 as I believe its great for music but as some have noted the F-12 is muddy... cant comment on that since I have not listened to the F-12.

Heres a few that I could find in your price range...

*This can be had for about the same price as the F-12 I know

http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...velodyne-vx-11
*You may want to check on someone who had had this

*I have herd this... wasnt to bad for music

Another choice to consider for good SQ on a budget is the Lava LSP10

http://www.lavasubs.com/10_inch/powe...subwoofer.html

It will come out to $207 shipped after you inform them of your AVS membership

LOL I was just going to post that but I see "Kes" had it already. Good catch! Anyhow... they seem to have a great tech support as you may want to call them as well. They do have a 30 day return I see if you dont like it for some reason. Worth a shot!

Give them a call and tell them you are a member of the AVS forums

They do ship to Canada but I am not sure if they offer the 15% discount if shipping to Canada so you would be paying the full price

Avoid the PSW10... in fact, read the Official Polkie thread here and you'll see that everyone says the only decent Polk sub (other than the DSW line) is the PSW505, which you can sometimes find on sale for $200.

The F12 is all boom. The guys in the F12 forum don't like it when I say that, but I'm not the only one.
It's not a bad sub, and if that's all you can afford, there are certainly worse subs.

I own two Klipsch subs, the Sub12 and the SW350. There are stories of bad amps in the Sub10 and Sub12 so you may want to be careful of that line. I paid $200 for the SW350 and am impressed with the sound for an 8" sub, but I do not drive it very hard.

Look up other sub threads here on AVS and recognize that every sub has its fans. Also take reviews on Amazon with a grain of salt. Many of them are from first time owners. Look for reviews from those who have had others to compare them to.

I presume you are refering to the daytons?
Sorry, my mistake. I was referring to the Klipsch Sub10 & 12. It's a $500 sub but they were selling for 250-300, probably because word of a few failures appeared. I figure I'll take my chances.

BTW if you are interested in Dayton try PartsExpress.

More musical than the Bic f12's

Will it succeed as a musical sub though? if it can be an all rounder i'll be fine, or will the dayton's work as a musical sub better?

would the little 8" er work fine for my situation? It's a bit cheaper, I can either get free shipping and they pay the taxes and the fees, or i get 15% off, i'll probably chose the former.
I was listening to a really wide variety of music today. AIC unplugged, JayZ, After the Burial, Jewel. I have 2 lava 12's and the performed very well IMO. I would hesitate to get these again.

The Lava should sound great with music considering the price. For movies it should prove adequate as long as it's not in a big room and you keep in mind that it is an 8" sub. Go for it!

So kesando you think the little 8" will be fine? I honestly don't know anything about subwoofers. I'll be like 3-5 feet away from the sub and about 2 feet about it, as it's going under my desk for my computer.
If only 3-5 feet away and being used in a computer setup, It should do great. If you happen to not like it you could return it within 30 days. However I don't see this happening. Besides many computer speaker sets only use 4-6 inch drivers in their "subwoofers". I think you will be happy with it. If you still have doubts you could always wait and save up for the 10"

i'm just nervous about getting the wrong subm an 8" sub is also nice because it'd be smaller too.

I hooked up my av40s today and used my logi x-540 sub.. it's more then powerful enough but sounds like junk, so i presume the little 8" will be fine.
