New to Satellite Radio, Need Some Guidance

I'm hoping some of you can guide me in the right direction.

I am thinking of purchasing the XM Onyx with PowerConnect Vehicle Kit or Stratus 6 Dock & Play Radio PowerConnect Vehicle Kit . Both are portable.

The XM has a $30 rebate which brings it down to about $24-$54. Anything I should know good or bad about either unit? Is there better one’s I should consider?

What, if any is the difference between Sirius XM Radio, Sirius, Satellite radio?

What are good/bad points of having a Sirius or XM unit? Does it make any difference? Is one better to have then the other?

I like the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, the easier listening channels and news. I also want to receive MLB, but from what I have read this may not be available, is this correct? What plan do I want that contains all the above?

Do I understand that I could have a “free” period of 30-90+ days free before I need to subscribe? How do I get the longest “free” period available?

I have read about plans around $77 - $80+/year, is that what I should be able to ask for and receive?

Can you get a lifetime subscription or is it better to go 1-2 years?

Any chance of rates increasing in the near future? If so, and you are under subscription would that change?

Wow. A ton of questions.

Since you like MLB, I would suggest buying an XM portable unit, and getting XM Everything for $14.93/month.

The music, and news stations shared between the two, are nearly 100% identical. Not everything mind you, but almost. And in your case, it does not matter.

I would prepay for 1 year at least. It will run you about $155 for one year upfront.

You can't get the $77-$80/year price out of the gate. Or at least, I have never seen it, ever for a new customer. Next year, and a day or two before they re-up you for 1 year of prepaid service(they are allowed to do this at will come your reup period), call to CANCEL, and tell them that it is just too much money, and THEN ASK if they will offer the $77-$80 price tag(just ask for a discounted rate).

And if they refuse, then just tell them you wish to CANCEL your account. Not put it on hold, but CANCEL. This is one word they fear, and they will give it too you. Unless they completely change their policy, which I doubt.

So buy an XM unit(not a STRATUS or an STARMATE. These are both Sirius units).

It seems the ONYX sold at Best Buy is reliable. At least according to the customer reviews, and it is pretty cheap($55) for BOTH the unit and vehicle kit in one box. You would have to buy the home kit separately.

So that is what I would do, but it is up to you
