I am happy for You guys.My logic board shows 11-11-04 and I still got pops on 59D8000.Getting nuts

It's been a week since i updated my 59D7000 with the firmware posted here. I did get the optimizing message, and after a week I have seen no brightness pops and there has been no noticeable change in black levels.

AGAIN ZOYD COMFIRMED NO TRUE CHANGE IN BLACK LEVELS. Those that cant optimize please see Zoyds thread on manually updating!

Try again after calibration (I'm assuming you have a meter to confirm?). The update in no way trashes the black levels. 0% pre/post black level stability has been confirmed on the D8000 and D7000 by me(51D8000) and Jason Widdon@HDJ owners thread (64D7000), not sure if Larry has measured it yet but his qualitative assessment was positive.

You will not be able to rollback the update without replacing your logic board.

AGAIN IT TRASHED MY PICTURE. So which tv does zoyd have 7000 or 8000? This could be a difference. What would be nice is to have one of the pro calibrators with good equipment check the black level out. I also have a i1d2 meter like zoyd and it is not the best at the low end.

Post your D2 measurements of a 0% stimulus for comparison.

51D8000 pre=0.015 ftL, post=0.015 ftL
64D7000 pre=0.007 ftL, post=0.007 ftL

Zoyd you stated that "You will not be able to rollback the update without replacing your logic board". Now please explain to me why this would be? If you can flash it up you should be able to flash it down. Makes no sense.

I believe zoyd said this is because the logic board comes with factory-installed firmware that has never been released to the public (prior firmware upgrades have not modified, and therefore did not contain, the logic firmware). Once you upgrade it to this "popless" revision, you overwrite the old firmware, so there is no going back.

So Samsung in California called me today and offered me a refund because the technician that came yesterday (replaced mainboard) deemed the tv irrepairable. This was before I did the logic board update.

I declined the refund and told the lady that I adjusted the settings and can live with the pops. I DON'T want to start all over with another TV.

So far so good with the logic board update.

correct. Factory logic flash files are not available to revert to.

Oh and by the way, none of this would have been possible without the work of several people over at samygo.tv I would not have been able to extract those flash files if they hadn't first hacked the D series TVs and discovered the firmware encryption keys.

zoyd - I have a 64D7000 currently running FW 1011 and logic board version shows 2011-02-22. The TV is currently prompting me to install FW 1015. Do you recommend that I apply that 1015 firmware first, and then apply the logic board update? Or apply logic board first and then firmware?

You can just apply the 1014.6 FW here to save time and then recheck logic board version. If it isn't 11-11-04 then apply the logic board update. I'm not aware of any benefits for being on 1015 vs. 1014.6

I measured my 64D7000 last night. The minimum luminance level was unchanged from before the logic update. It is still at 0.007-0.008 ftL.


A note to those that have to enter the service menu: Doing so will reset all your user settings to the factory default values -- including the Brightness.

Was having troubles last night updating my PND6900. Kept saying "no match". Have to try the "less_deepblack" file Tonight when I get home. Just seems plugging the USB in from Samsung would be less of a "hack" so to speak. Diving into this makes me uncomfortable, don't want to brick my tv. The thought of voiding my warranty is lingering in m head....

You guys are good though. Thank you for your efforts! Samsung seems to hang us out to dry with their lack of concern on the subject...

I'll update if I'm successful.

I had the same issue, I also had to use the less_deepblack on mine and the "updating" process commenced. Good luck!
