Shark007 vs. FFdshow

I'm trying to figure out the best solution to what format I want to rip to and play either BLURAY discs, ISO's, mkv's in xbmc with dts hd and dolby tru hd. So I was thinking I would just use mpc-HC playercorefacory.xml file w/ffdshow for my 1080 mkv's. But there's the fact that it sucks to use w/ a remote and what about BLURAY discs. What's the best way to play BLURAY discs w/ hd audio in xbmc? Like I said I was planning in using ffdshow but than I've read a little about shark007. What's easier to configure, works better in xbmc, works better with various formats? Does one work better w/ a 64 bit system or amd gtx 460 gpu? Any other facts I need to know to make a division?

neither ffdshow nor shark007 work in xbmc.
xbmc does not use codecs.

Like I said in my post I was thinking of using an xbmc playercorefactory.xml file so in xbmc, mpc-hc opened up my files w hd audio. So would I have any advantage to using shark007 instead of ffdshow with mpchc?

I used shark007 when back when i used WMC, and it was very good, i used it mostly for MKV's with DTS/Dolby audio tracks. Shark has ffdshow and some other codecs, has a very active forum and support.

Latest SVN versions of XBMC can play BD ISOs. You select the movie and the main feature gets played back. With subtitles and everything. You get True HD decoded to LPCM and DTS HD MA decoded as DTS Core (from what I understand it's just a matter of time for DTS MA to be decoded properly). There's also bitstreaming in the works for the new AudioEngine.

This all sounds really interesting - I take it these are the SVNs leading up to version 11.0? Is the new AudioEngine going to be ready for 11.0?

I definitely think it's going to be included. Devs are talking about merging with the main branch within a short time.
You can try the SVN versions here: http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/win32/ (bear in mind that if you already use XBMC, they update the libraries to a newer not retrocompatible version, so... backup first ).

What's the worst that could happen if you didn't back up and somthing went wrong,You would just have to redownload a nightly or 10.1 and rescan all your media and Plugins and settings? That's all your getting at right, that you can't go back to the previous version?

Basically yeah, but it's for those very reasons that I've avoided trying out a nightly version so far. Will hold on for a stable release.
