Home Theater in three car tandem garage

Ok guys I bought a new house last year and made sure to look for a house that had some future HT possibilities.

I found a tri-level that I think has the possibility for me to have a music room for 2 channel listening with my Maggies and an adjacent Home Theater.

I would store all the components in the utility room and use an IR repeater mounted at the front at the screen. The tandem space currently measure around 11x 18.

The garage is already dry walled but I would need to add a green glued layer for sound. Also running the conduit for cables to the other room will have to be done from the projector and the surround speakers.

Here are some floorplans and models I made with Sketchup:

What do you you guys think, especially the experts? Doable? I will go with an AT (debating ratio since I love sports and movies) so as to get the max size screen. The components seem to fit.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I think that would be a really cool space. I'd love to see this build!

Looks like a cool prospect. What are the dimensions of the theater room itself?

^^^^ This I believe.

Lol...whoops. Thanks.

Looks like a great place for a HT. If it were me I'd move the window out of the HT and down the wall into the garage space.

Looks like a nice little space. The only thing I'd point out at this stage is that the rear seats are against the back wall. This is to be avoided if possible if you want 7.1 (and why wouldn't you?).

Look forward to seeing this come together - don't forget lots of pics!

How do you plan to heat/cool/exchange air in the theater? Being part of a garage, I would think you need to incorporate this into your project plan.

Second, it is going to be a challenge to squeeze in a AT screen and two rows of seating with only 18ft of depth if you plan to have the chairs recline. You need close to 6.5 to 7 ft for the back row (chairs fully reclined
+ walk by space + space from back wall)....that leaves 11ft, subtract 3ft for the false wall (speaker depth + distance from speaker to real wall + speaker to screen) and your first row will be 8ft from the screen. That doesn't seem practical. Keep in mind, your speakers should be 4-6 inches from the AT screen.

Make sure you have a functional plan to allocate the 18ft appropriately.

Those dimensions are similar to what I have, and its doable but tight. My first row is a little closer than id like to the screen, about 8.5' to the eyes, but like mutheater said, you'll need to plan for every inch.

You can do things like forgo the recliners in 1 row(or both) to gain some space. But i really dont see why, with a reasonably sized screen, you cant make that layout work.

Looks cool. What's above the garage?

You'll have to post some pics of your Maggies. What kind do you have?

Ventilation is an issue to consider now rather than later. Is sound containment an issue? If so, aside from the ventilation, you'll want to consider isolating from that stairwell wall and consider a second door (such that when both are closed you create an airlock

This is where I am stuck. I have no idea what HVAC components I would need or where I would add them and keep my cosmetics intact.

What have others done?

Above the garage is my living room and dining room so I might need some sound treatment.

Currently I have Magnepan 1.6s. Upgrading to 1.7s soon when the room is finished.

Here is a pic before I bought the house, in my apt.

Good points. I am so stuck on ventilation. I need to spend a weekend to reading about it.
