Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Just what we were all hoping for, I'm sure. Anyway, the combination of the cast plus the WETA digital FX house makes this somewhat intriguing, but I'm not holding my breath.

This is the third trailer I've seen this week with those Inception-like horns. James Franco as a scientist gave me a chuckle.

? It's synth bass sound with a loop.

Watching this trailer makes me want to sit down and watch my Apes 5-disc blu-ray set.

For a PotA movie, the trailer sure makes it look like zombie flick. And when you're effects house gets most of the fanfare in the credits instead of director, star or writer, it doesn't inspire much hope for quality. Jmo.

Where's Roddy McDowall when you need him?

New trailer. PLEASE let this not suck!

My son and I just went through the whole Apes series on Blu-Ray so this is good timing. Looks surprisngly cool.

But...

Why sleepy-headed heart-throb James Franco as in "intelligent" scientist...why?....why....?

Please Hollywood producers, please stop.

Gawd I yearn for the days when actually mature leading men occupied the screen, as if the entire world hadn't been reduced to under 30 years old.

I have lost all faith Hollywood can do a "hard" science fiction movie well anymore.

The last good sci-fi movie out of Hollywood I can recall is GATTACA.

Gattaca is great. How about Children of Men or Moon? Maybe Moon was an indie flick?

I picture Franco more of an herb smokin' stoner. Hopefully they show him getting blazed in the movie and that's how he comes up with this stuff.

He'll probably lose his arm in this one too LOL

Moon was definitely indie, Children of Men was great, but a relatively small flick (at the time). "Hard" sci-fi flicks are far and few between these days (let alone good ones).

Partly why I'm looking forward to GREEN LANTERN. Yes, it's not really hard SF and is a superhero fantasy...but it's been a while since we;ve had a good space opera. But what about SOURCE CODE (though I haven't seen it), SOLARIS, or even INCEPTION?

I saw the trailer the other day before X-Men. It didn't do anything for me. It was sort of boring.

I haven't seen Source Code, but Solaris (the original) was much better than the remake. Inception? I don't know what you'd call it but it sure as hell wasn't "hard" sci-fi. If anything it was fantasy- just like Green Lantern (unless anyone has magic rings I haven't heard about).

The CG Chimps are kinda creepy.
I think deliberately so.

Will give the BD a go.

Same! I won't go to the movies for that one.

Great minds think alike. One of the few movie trailers that didn't excite me. Reason one, because the story has already been explained and reason two, the producers didn't do their homework. I see some pretty big holes in the story telling just by the clip alone.

No love for District 9?

"District 9" was on my list of blu-rays to pick up and I finally got to watch it the weekend before last. Wonderful bent on the sci-fi genre. Just wished it would have kicked in, action-wise, a little earlier.

Still need to pick-up "Moon."

District 9 was great, but it also wasn't a "big budget Hollywood movie".

Have to agree I really enjoyed it.

I think of District 9 as a dark comedy, rather than hard sci-fi. Extremely well done. It took a couple viewings for me to realize it.

For me not so much the creepy but what really turned me off was that every gorilla looked and had an expression that was "too human" like they were trying to be so realistic which made it looked so fake and just super cheesy weesy. I'll catch it on BD when it comes out but not holding my breath or anything.

Saw the trailer again before GL with my daughter. She turns to me and says it reminded her of the origin of Mojo Jojo in the Power Puff Girls movie.

My wife and I saw the trailer for the first time last night. She shook her head and rolled her eyes. Apparently it didn't do much for her. Can't say I disagree with her assessment at this point. Time will tell, but it looks pretty horrendous based on that trailer.

I have to agree nothing to get excited about with this movie.
