Exodus Maelstrom-18" with PR's

Has anyone done a sub with The 18" Mal X and 2 Exodus 18" PR's?

I seems like it would be a very potent sub in a reasonable size box for a decent price.

The 5400, 5100 with the same combination is certainly more sexy but it is quite a bit more costly.

I wouldn't be surprised all be it in a bigger box to get a better result ported. Gain more down low.

For my goal which is 18-20 hz it seems like a good combination.

I would go for more 18hz than 20hz personally. With the added cost off PR's, is there any gain for going the PR route. I've never had PR's so don't know what they sound like. I have never had port noise so unless you get a better sound I see no gain other than added expense.

Within the context of my goals it makes sense.
Size of the box does matter.

Same tuning, PR vs Port, the PR box is going to be quite a bit smaller and no potential port noise do deal with. The downside? As mentioned before, more money and below the tuning point, a steeper roll off.

do you have the t/s parameters off the PR's you can upload.

I don't the PR's disappeared off their website. I assume they will come back when they get things sorted out.

The gain being no port noise, no port resonance, and the main one IMO is a much smaller subwoofer in the end. You can end up with an 18" pr'd sub that is a 24" cube tuned to 18hz. Try that with a port that is adequate for a long throw 18".

For the Mal X try a little bigger like 8.5 or 9 cu ft and tune the pr's to 16-20hz depending on what you want.

That would be a bummer. I think PR's are a good tool. to achieve a sub the average person can fit in a room.

There is an old expression, excuse me if I screw it up.
You can pick 2: fast, cost effective or quality, you can't have all three.

With a sub it is small, cheap or powerful. Pick two.

They have been discontinued, bummer. I will have to see what else is available.

There's a pair for sale on another forum, $140 plus shipping.

I'm sure Kevin from Exodus Audio would provide the parameters.

I was talking to Exodus and he suggested his 21" passives they are not on the site but they exist.

He said the specs are QMS 4.8
Sd 1550 cm^2
Starting mass 325 g
Vas 605L
CMS 0.18 mm/N

Can someone model this? I realize the 21" PR's will need a bigger box but I am curious about the output?
I could model that up but there is no 'Fs' listed.

So, why not use the AE PR's if not the 21's?
What's the price on the 21" PR's?

I thought you were supposed to use a PR that was larger then the Active driver. I thought you wanted the active to run out of steam before the passives?
Yes that is true. Most would use dual opposed PR's to cancel out the forces on the cabinet. A PR has a lot of mass and could cause rocking. You would use two 18" PR's with a single 18" driver, just fyi.

Thanks for the link, did you ever do any measurements? I'd love to see them.
