i want to add a sub to go along with my Swan D1080MkII08 speakers, i dont own a receiver so i need it to have low level inputs, im gonna use for 60% ht 40% gaming, room size 17x11.

which of these would fit better?

Emotiva Ultra 10"

hsu vtf-1

epik legend

i'm looking for a really tight sound for bullets.

damn... really, no one??

i have now realized that bullets probably dont go that low, so which of those will sound better with fps games?

and are there any problems with not being able to cut the lows on my speakers?

For what you want, a tight sound, I'd go with the Legend. It's a sealed design so it should get a bit better recovery time, although with output I'm not sure. I've never heard any of them so I don't know. Do you listen pretty loud during your FPS games?

+1 on the Epik. I have the same Swans-nice sounding (and looking) speakers for the price.

i can get the vtf-2 mk3 for about $30 more is the epik still the best option?

In an apartment you'll have to have your sub turned down a good bit unless the apartments are newer and very well built. And even then you'll need to keep it down unless you have thick concrete walls.

I believe you'll get a cleaner sound with the epic, but low end response may be affected because you have 2 12" drivers in a small enclosure. Not much room to breathe. To get their quoted 16-18 hz in room response you'll need a tiny room and won't have very much output down in that range unless they're supplying a ton of eq and then you get into distortion.

i have decided to buy the epik today, any other subs i should check before??

since i have never owned a sub, do i get a good experience at a low volume or do i have to listen to it at high levels?
Of the three, the Epik would have been my choice. I'll bet that you will be very happy with it, at all volume levels. You did good.

Having never owned a sub before, you are going to experience a bit of a learning curve to get the best out of it. Come on back in when you get it, and we will help you.

i just learned about the rythmik fv12 n it seems more suitable for my set up, since it has line outputs i would image it sends the signal back to my speakers with the crossover apply to it?? is that how it works??

also is it as good as the epik legend?

I might be mistaken here, but I don't believe the Rythmik amp has a high pass crossover for the mains. I think it is a full range pass through, so you can daisy chain another sub or amp to it.

My Chase sub amp has an 80 Hz high pass XO, but I do not use it.

I have not heard either the Rythmik or the Epik, but both have excellent reputations. The Epik does have more cone area and I prefer sealed, but this is just my opinion.

If that is the amp, then yes, you are correct. That is a really nice amp.

I was looking here. http://www.rythmikaudio.com/amplifiers.html
