Direct2Drive (and other) game deals thread

Well, I know most of the good sales are usually on Steam, and Steam has its own thread, so I thought I would start a separate game deals thread.

Currently, there is a '30 days of deals' sale on Direct2Drive. It is only about 1 week into the sale. Had a couple good ones already (Mass Effect 2 for $9.95). Today they have Dead Space 2 for $29.95 (25% off).

Also, EA has a weekend sale on some of their sports titles here: http://eastore.ea.com/store/ea/en_US...oryID=55619800

How is the EA store when it comes to DRM and installation count? Do you have to re-buy a game after a certain number of installations, or does it allow you to deactivate games on PCs that you wish to no longer play the game on?

EDIT: The site clearly answers my question. I see that you can manage what PCs each game is activated on.

MSmith, the thing that made me never buy from the EA store again was the fact that they gave me the 'privilege' to let me pay them up front to be able to download the game again after 6 months. Not sure where that stands today but totally not cool in my book. I've never bought another game directly from them since Mass Effect 1.

I have several games on D2D and EA. I have two different PC's I use (one I use in my PC room and the other I hook up to my home theater). I have a few of the same games installed on both machines with no problem (Need4Speed shift, Battlefield Bad Company 2).

I haven't installed the new games I just got this week from D2D yet (Need4Speed Shift 2, Mass Effect 2, or BulletStorm), but in the past, you just download a big install file for the game. I would store this file on a back up drive and could use the installation on another PC. I have all of these huge folders for these games saved on a USB harddrive, so I don't ever have to download them again. Just install from the folder when I need to. The games that have a multiplayer mode, like Bad Company 2 and NFS Shift, you can only use one copy at a time. Its just like Steam in that sense. The multiplayer login is locked to the CD key of that particular game.

The Witcher is $5, and Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines (along with a couple of other Activision RPGs) is $4.19 on GOG. Since I've been out of PC gaming for awhile this presented a good opportunity to get The Witcher.

Yeah, I grabbed that. For $5, why the hell not? The game looks damn good at very high resolutions, and I've also heard it works very nicely in 3D. Obviously you need a pretty powerful rig to max out the settings in 3D.

$5 is a dangerous price point for somebody like me. I'd buy prolly 8 or 9 games a month if I could get them all for 5 bucks. Still, I'm not the guy buying all these indy and 2nd rate console ports. Stuff like Singularity. That might be a decent game and all, but I've only got so many hours with which to game. I have enough games stacked to the ceiling on my pile of shame, and I don't really need to add to that for the hell of it. But if I can get any of the relatively prime time games for $5 or less, I GOTTA DO IT. I got Prince of Perisa (2008 version), for $4 bucks shipped the other day.

Basically, if the game started out as a legit $59.99 game, and it was considered a strong game at release, and then many months later you see it slipping around for a 5 spot, I think you gotta snag it, if it's something you were interested in at launch, but just didn't want to cough up the coin.

I picked this up for $5 too...and so glad I did. I've been eyeing it for 360 for some time, but $5 definitely is a sweet spot.

Looks amazing maxed out and the 360 pad works perfectly with it. I'd highly recommend picking it up if people haven't (and it's still on sale).

Bulletstorm....$11.98 from Gamersgate:

Link

Played for about an hour and it's well worth the $12.
Yeah, Bulletstorm for 12 bucks is pretty freaking amazing. I'm so tempted by this. Bulletstorm is like one of my 5 most wanted PC games (of what's currently available). It's just, I've got so many damn games on my backlog list, that I hate to buy this right now. If I buy it, either I put it on the backburner and get back to my backlog games, or I start playing it now, and all my backlog games just sit there and stare at me.

I think my best bet is to let this one slip on by, even though I might not see a price better than this for many months, but oh well, back to the backlog.

I bought Bulletstorm a couple hours ago, and I'm having a hell of a time installing it. I tried the 4 suggested fixs, and the installer continues to give me an error. It's pretty god damn frustrating.

Was it the actual Bulletstorm installer or the Windows error that pops up saying it may not have installed correctly? I got the latter, but canceled out of the pop-up and it finished installing fine.
