You'll want to gasket that access door so rattling shouldn't be an issue. If access is to be rare, why not just skip door handle and hinges and build a bolted in place access panel?

Built the work bench when I got the kreg kit. Its a little big but has casters on it so no big deal.

my contraption for cutting all the dead wood for the soffit. Had to cut 120 pieces of 1x3 to 11".

400 plus pocket hole screws tonight lol

Ceiling is going to look nice! I hope the crew is doing the mudding, I wouldn't want to deal with that many inside corners.

Oh yeah! I only undertook the theater room. All the other rooms are being done by the pros. I had never seen the bazooka mud-tapper and he also has a skim box (thats what he calls it) for all the inside corners so that will be a breeze for them.

I was impressed with the bazooka though. I had seen auto fed mud tappers but not of that quality. That thing was bad a$$. They had the majority of the taping done in one day (not corners).

Lets just hope the HT ceiling looks half as good. I'll post up the soffit design here in a few. I'm still sorting through straight wood at the local big box shops as I dont feel right doing that at the lumber yard lol. Just something about it doesnt feel right. They already beat the big box shops prices on everything so I feel weird doing that. They already bend over backwards for me (well my salesman does) anyway. Then they lose a ton on bad lumber that they deliver for free and come back and pick up for free on top of that.

I've managed to sort through most of it at lowes and home depot. Still need about the same amount that I've already sifted through.

My main concern about the way the ceiling is going to turn out is the painted wood (bottom of soffit) as I dont want a direct transition from the wall to stained wood. So, I'm going to paint the first 13 inches of it and have trim/stain on the remaining 8 iinches.

Going to draw it up real quick to show what my very bad grammar just tried to describe.

then basic plan

Well, I doubt they will be IB. That was the original plan but since blueprint audio hasnt released the IB drivers I ordered the 21s. It was going to be 2 malx 21 FLHs for the 30hz+ and the IB drivers for the ultra low FQ. But now the mach 5s will most likely be small sealed with lots of juice but if ts params model better for IB its not out of the question "yet".

The room is about 35x18x10 with the baffle wall its about 31.5'x18'x10' As close to the golden ratio as I could get.

IB or not, that is going to be some serious bass in a very nicely sized room. I'm subscribed.

First, again congrats on the build. It's enjoyable keeping up on the progress. That ceiling is way cool.

It's my understanding Fi has released their IB3-18's, if that's what you're referring to. In an IB alignment, those drivers and their inherent bottom octave, creates a wonderfully efficient manner in which to create LF. Not fighting the small box results in lower amplifier demands, lower electrical requirements, dramatically lessens the effects of compression.

All that said, several custom 21's, would be a fun exercise as well

Best of luck

Yeah I just couldnt pass up the offer on buying the 21's since the release of the IB3s was a major unknown. The 21's should model well in IB as well but I'm thinking more along the lines of a couple LG FP14000 clones (220v) with 5 cuft boxes. But then I may also get really tired of building boxes after the two huge FLHs. They will take 4 pieces of 4x8 MDF each.

Very cool, the LG clones seem ok. Thinking big picture, as extensive as your entire build is, you may consider buying a spare at those incredible prices, as there is a small unknown with them.

Yeah, there is that small chance. We'll see what happens once the TS params are out for the 21's. I may not even need many FPs if I do decide to go IB. I need to contact soho and see what my FLHs will model at with only 2 of them ran on the L and R channels since my original plan was 4 of them. I'm wanting a third one if i go the L and R route. I'm regretting selling 2 of my mals.

Original plan was horns for 140db output with IB as loud as possible down low. Now with the new drivers from mach 5 I'm kinda in limbo on my sub design.

I'm almost done with the soffit framing for the HVAC guy. Is there a benift going with 8" or 10" flex? I'll have more room for insulation with the 8" obviously but was wondering if one is more quiet than the other. I'm going to have a couple of 90s but other than that, thats the extent to my modifications other than being inside the soffits rather than straight in through the ceiling. He mentioned installing one more return and vent if using the 8" but that was it.

I know I am enjoying the ease of installing the soffit after using the kreg pocket hole jig for all the joints. The pockets may have taken a few hours to drill but its a breeze putting them together now. Best investment yet for the build, although I havent broken out the dewalt tracksaw yet!

Looks like your progress was going really well. Do you have any updates?
Nice theater that you are building. See that you are a Racer fan. WKU grad here. Are we playing you guys this year in basketball? I was a commercial contractor for many years. Built a couple of schools over your way. Muhlenberg South and North High School. With the room that you are building, you should have a GTG when you are done. If there is anything I can help you with, please let me know. Nice job on the documentation of your build. Makes it very interesting. I have also subscribed to your thread.

Media/bar room photos. I've gotten pretty far in the last month or so. Got all the tile laid in the bar room, painted the bar room, painted the hall, painted the bathroom, laid most of tile in bathroom floor, got a bunch of electrical done, and moved in a bunch of furniture.

Built the cabinet frames and hung them this past week. The track saw made this very easy but still took two days to get them completed and hung. Finishing them out with birch will come next.

I built this in a couple of hours with the track saw out of 1/2" and 3/4" MDF. Painting it took longer than cutting and putting together.

Theater room still needs little more drywall work. Soffits almost complete. Waiting on HVAC guy to finish sealing vents with GG sealant and wrap with insulation. Then will fill with insulation and finish out the framing for lighting before paint.

Was just out in the garage and thought that I didnt upload a pic of this little guy.

Very cheap to buy and have installed so thought it was a great investment since it will protect everything in both the house and the addition.

Progress is looking really good. It's really coming together. Nice work.

I give up on that last pic. What is it?
