Especially when the show created an entirely new language for the dothraki in season one and now Dany sounds like she's reading the script to a CW show.

"I want my dragons! Xaro you are so mean! I'm going to my room! I HATE YOU!"

The show really needs more Shakespearean influence in the dialog to hint at a time when language structure was less evolved and formal.

Well she is only 13/14 I believe at this point in the story no? Seems like a typical teenager IMO..

I think showing a "supposed" 15 year old naked and in sexual situations is no no in America even on cable. I always took her character to be at least 18.

that would be the problem wouldn't it?

She sounds like a typical teen based on your experience, not a kid who lives in a medieval world and is royal blood.

Since book discussion is banned, I won't mention how old Dany is in it ..

great, now that i'm hooked on got, we've got only 3 episodes left and then
we have to wait a whole year. i'm no sure i can survive that long.

i feel like an addict whose dealer has to serve a 1 year jail sentance.

may be forced into the books to get my fix.

I said that last year, I survived, this time....

A few things I think the series is based on is House York (House Stark) vs House Lancaster (House Lannister). Another is Hadrian's Wall which is obviously used as a basis for the wall. Feudal and chivalry too I think play a big part.

They had to bump up the ages for exactly that reason.

It may be the reason they don't discuss the ages. If you know, you know but if not you assume she's at least 18.

I always try to read the book after the season. But since they'll be splitting seasons starting next year not sure how I'll do it.

I don't know many kids from a medieval time/world do you? If time has taught us anything is that "most" teens tend to act the same. Royal blood means little if you haven't been brought up in that life. She's been on the run since she was a small child, so her only real influence was her brother and we know how he acted. .

Exactly my thoughts, except one of our posters a few pages back said the books are kind of a snore....

Now that I think about it, I don't remember them mentioning the ages of the eldest children--although everyone kept calling Robb a boy (doesn't mean anything)...and Lady Stark mentioned that Ned went to war for Robert 17 years ago and came back with Snow--how long that war lasted I'm not sure.

I'm not even sure how much time has passed since the first episode.

Except they don't.

We have plenty of documented example of actions and language tones over the centuries to show how people spoke and acted. The language structure that Thrones is falling into is contemporary. That seems to be a lazy shortcut after the effort of season one. The Dothraki didn't even bother to speak in their own language this season.

They didn't speak much, but they have spoken Dothraki when talking to each other - talking about cutting up the gold statue, for example.

I agree. Throw in the fact that she just lost her husband (who she seemed to genuinely love) AND just discovered she's fireproof. That's a lot going on for a teenager.

The problem with just blaming Dany's childishness on her age is that really, most of the "younger" characters in the show are just as young. John Snow and Robb Stark are both supposed to be 17, and of course Arya is 11.

Personally, I'm just going to go on pretending that they're the ages that their actors portray because I've grown a little tired of childhood heroes lately. I find it much easier to believe that Robb is leading that conquering army as a 25 year old than I do with him as a 17 year old.

Another thing that surprised me is that the actress playing Cat is as young as she is. I figured she was quite a bit older than Sean Bean but she's actually a LOT younger.

The character age and some of the past commentary on how young Dany is as well as portrayal .. I'll simply add that

Joan of Arc was burned at the stake as a heretic when she was only 19 years old .. different time / what we consider a youngster, back in these days not so .. as well, the life expectancy was substantially less .. in fact, 33 was old in the Middle Ages .. if that's translated into today, then a 16 year old in GOT would be equivalent to a 40 year old today ..

Just sayin' ..

If you think 5 years is a lot, either you're very young or I'm getting way too old.

Very good point and it could well be the reason Martin made the characters so young. A world ruled by adolescents

Personally, I was initially a bit taken back by the ages of the characters. But as I got absorbed in the story their youth didn't bother me. It had about as much importance as their hair color.

I was talking about the actual age of the actors.

The actress who plays Cat is 39 and Sean Bean is 52, but she looks older than him.

We're talking about Michelle Fairley, right? Wikipedia has her DOB as 1964. To me she looks every bit her age, but in a good way (honest). I was surprised to learn Bean is 52, but I thought they looked well suited for each other.

Where did you get her age from?

Michelle Fairley was born in 1964, so she is 47-48 years old.

BTW, Sean Bean turned 53 in April.

Ah, it must have been a typo on that list. Nevermind then :P

Guys I musta missed something at the end of this last episode (or I'm an idiot), but who were the two dead, mutilated bodies that were pulled up in ropes in the very last scene?
