I thought it was much creepier than the book.
The problem is there is just So. Much. Going. On. At least a few major characters are missing from each episode (here, Jon Snow, Jaime, Cersei, Bran) in an attempt to give those that are there some coherence to their stories, as well as some much needed character moments.
I have a feeling this is going to be like Lost in the long run -- a show that plays much better when you can marathon it on bluray than week to week.
