I have a Denon 487 reciever with Denon speakers and subwoofer that is probably about 4 years old. The sound system is used soley with my Mitsubishi T.V.. I've been noticing less than stellar sound quality lately and investigated. I found that my 2 year old mashed some buttons on the remote and turned off half my speakers via the "A" and "B" speaker port buttons - that was an easy find and fix.
However, I cannot get my subwoofer to respond. The red light on the back stays in "standby" mode and never engages to the "green" active stage. I checked the hookup, etc.. and everything was in order. Tried unplugging and turning power off to no avail.
One thing I did notice is that the subwoffer itself was resting on the Monster cable that feeds into the subwoofer and probably had been for some time. My 40 lb. 2 year older also likes to get on top the subwoofer some times which could of added more pressure. How easy is to damage these cables? There was a slight indentation that actually went away but the cable was not significantly damaged from what I could inspect.
The other possibility is that the toddler mashed a button that somehow has made it inoperable. I tried investigating this possibilty by making sure it was turned up to 8 decibels and not the "off" selection. I also manipulated the crossover possiblities by choosing "large speakers" and "small speakers" while modifying the crossover frequencies - but it was no help. I also manipulated the "tone defeat" option in a variety of fashions but that was no help.
Bottom line is that I have no bass. I guess I could go buy another cable and see if it activates then? Any other suggestions? Is there a way I could test that cable some other way?
Thanks in advance.
