Projector for everyday TV watching?

Do most people use their projectors only for movies or also for everyday TV watching? I am considering a PJ but most of our viewing is TV and not many movies. If we put in a PJ I am thinking our movie watching would increase but TV would still be the majority.

Any thoughts/opinions?

Thanks

No, my preference would be one or the other. Cost would be one issue, the clean look would be the other.

If you are mostly just doing TV I'd recommend a good sized LCD or plasma. It gives you more flexibility of placement and no concern for ambient lighting.

I'll watch an occasional show on the PJ and look forward to watching football (if we have a season this year) but for general TV viewing I prefer a smaller screen and some ambient light.

I watch TV on my 100" PJ screen every day. My room is more "sports bar" than dedicated theater. I watch a lot of movies, but also watch a ton of sports and a fair amount of sitcoms, etc. Only real downside I see is that you'll be replacing the bulb in the PJ more often than you would if you were just watching movies.

My room would be very much the same. How often are you buying bulbs? Which projector?

I have a Mitsubishi HC1500. When I bought it I got a mail-in rebate plus a free bulb. I'm into my 3rd year now and the PJ just recently started flashing the "change bulb" message when I start it up.

My screen is one of the MaxxMudd mixes you can find over in the DIY screen forum. It performs great with a little ambient light. Unless I'm watching a movie I always watch with some level of ambient light in the room.

95% of our TV viewing is in our HT (Panasonic AE3000 projector, 129" wide 2.37:1 screen).
In fact, we use the HT more for TV than for movies by far. We probably average 1 movie a week.

We also have our Wii and PS3 hooked up in the theater as well.

Everybody is different and every opinion different.

We could watch television programming via our projector but PJ performance best when in dark or very dim environment. To us, about 99.99999% of ANYTHING on television is junk/boring/not-worth-the-time but I understand that Cathy and I are just different than the majority of people who seem to take genuine pleasure sitting and staring at that stuff - LOL - we've had all paid TV services removed - if we need to watch the news then we have a nice, outside antenna and we can pull about 15 channels with much better HD than cable or sat. but we still wouldn't put any of it up on the wall and dim the lights

We both enjoy the Wii and occasionally stream something from the "net" but only to our television.

I guess I would ask you is your goal to have a genuine "theater, at the movies" visual experience? If so, then you gotta have the projector with screen and at the least a 100in diagonal image cause - in our experience - today's "little" televisions just can't deliver a theater experience to the home - our 60in is a NICE tv but, doggone it, it is just a little television relatively speaking.

WOW, sorry, I rattled all of the above off to get down to we found having both TV and PJ the best solution. A television for when we want the lights on, multiple activities going on with news or a movie or Wii running but when we want a genuine commercial type theater experience we dim the lights and light up the wall screen.

Mitsibushi does make an 82in HDTV that almost gets close to "theater" in a smaller viewing area and current models are 3D equipped AND you don't have to sit in near darkness to get best quality image.
Good Luck

My set up shares both a plasma and drop down screen mainly because my system is in my living room. We use our living room daily for tv viewing and other things as well. Most of the time we use the screen just because after viewing a screen, the plasma just looks too small. Again, everyone has the personal preference.
