Pioneer VSX-1121 Owner's Thread - Page 7

How hard and how long does it take to connect to the Internet and or the home router/ WiFi? 30 seconds, 10 minutes. Will it reconnect on its own or do I have to go into the UI and connect it to the web? Over all, is it a big headache to listen to Pandora Internet Radio?
I haven't timed it but I'd say it's between 15-30 seconds. Nothing too bad. I haven't used the Pandora applet (Slacker FTW ) so I can't tell you if it will auto-connect to the last station or not.

Because this is the non-Elite version, is the display amber or white/blue? Is there a blue light on the power button? Does this use the PCM1691 DACs like in last year's VSX-1120-K?
White/Blue Looks very very light blue- to me its more white

I wonder why the Elite versions always use an Amber display? I always thought the light blue/white displays were more high calabre than the amber ones. What's more high calabre about the amber displays?
the amber gives a warmer sound, the blue a shrill, bright sound.

Okay, for real, I guess you just chalk it up to what's in vogue. Give it a fee years and hip/expensive will be green or red led's.

I relate it to the color of Gold!
We all know what Gold is doing these days.
The Elite's are the Gold standard for Pioneer!

I own the Elite VSX 53 and at night the Gold Text Display with the Blue indicators surrounding, looks very Impressive!

I really like the Elite look but also like 430752 says next time it will be some other color combination.
Like Headlights on a car...check out the new Audi's, very sharp looking.
Someone designs it!
Pioneer has to have a different look for the Elite's because...Well....They are the Elites!

I just noticed that too.

5% cash back from Chase brings that to 475. Plus a second year of warranty.

Very tempting!

Incredible price. While newegg has very little customer support, their prices are always unbelievable.
I checked my email, twitter and there was nothing from New Egg advertising the Pioneer VSX-1121 at all. They do gave the VSX-1021 for $549.99. Please post the link.

Is this a worthwhile upgrade to my current AVR-791, other than gaining Airplay? I have a 3.1 setup in our living room I am wondering if the VSX-1211 would improve the quality of sound in music and movies. I usually play everything at -20 db.

Hi Saralee,
I Love your Honey Smoked Turkey by the way! LOL!

Ya know people ask that all the time, and that is a question that really I or no one but you can answer!
You currently have a Surround 7.1 receiver and yet you do not use any Surrounds, you are using 3.1 which I would assume is: Main Left, Center, Main Right and a Sub.

Your expectations are what they are.
The 1121 Brochure is below:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/ep...le%20Sheet.pdf

I would add a link to the VSX 1121 OP Manual but for some reason it is not available at the Pioneer Website.
But if I could I would advise you to download it and go through it, see for yourself exactly what features are important to you and what is not.
Then you will know...If your happy with your Denon and are not in need of the VSX1121 features then stay with your Denon.

Good Luck,

Bud B

Several issues here.

1. I don't think its receivers job to keep track of IP address between on-off events. It uses standard DHCP protocol to get IP allocated from the router.

2. Router could or should be configured to statically allocate a particular IP address for a given MAC address. I have it configured so it always uses a specific IP no matter how many restarts in between. That works fine.

3. The problem I am seeing is that network ports on the receiver (aka IP stack) go down when receiver is put into standby. Some are reporting that this works fine, it does not for me. An option I am exploring is a setting that would change how standby works. I have seen it with units that keep RS-232 powered even in stanby. It could be an option here, I have not found it yet.

4. In general this IP control is truly in its infancy. There are zero standards for this and implementations vary from unreliable to confusing. Two issues I see here is usage of TCP protocol and telnet sessions specifically to send (RS-232) codes (slow unless you keep the sessions open). The second is lack of self discovery. I would want to get all AV devices connected to my network discovered automatically - and by each other, even when their IP addresses change. I do not understand why they have to piggyback on transport layer to identify a unit. Also doing this through HDMI in its current implementation is a complete failure. Enough my rants.

I can't believe Pioneer did not have the for-though to include come sort of database that could store and retrieve IP addresses. Arg...

How do I get airplay to work with this?? Doesn't show up on the iPhone or through iTunes on my laptop!! It's connected to the network fine, I can control it with the iPhone app.

My thoughts after thinking about it more this morning. I think other than Airplay I am really not gaining much. I have a pair of Energy C-50, C-C50 and ESW-8 for subsolid but not exactly earth shattering but match up rather well with my AVR-791 currently. You are right about my 3.1 setup. I think I would spend the money on the Apple TV so I also gain video streaming in the process. I also like the fact that the VSX-1121 has a nice GUI as the Denon interface is kind of an eyesore on my Pioneer 500M. Thanks for your input.

Hi

Has anyone heard from Pioneer yet about the fact that Pandora is not available?

I have a case number but have not heard and curious about other people.
I have no pandora, hdmi pass thru isn't working, airplay not showing up on any iPhone or iTunes on my laptop. So basically some of the biggest reasons I upgraded to this receiver!!
Rebooted my router and airplay shows up now!!

Called tech support and new firmware is coming by next week to address the issue with no pandora.

Yeah I have it on. Tech support guy said I have to turn it on in my tv and cable box?? Don't know what settings he's talking about, but i'll check. Its a SA 8500 dvr Cable box, so not sure if it's not compatible with the pass thru?? Gotta do a little research I guess. Thought I just set it and forget it in the receiver. Airplay is working good now.

I am signed up for e-mail notifications like 2 years ago, and I did not receive this code in my e-mail alerts, that code was tried today, and it gave me red text that said in my previous post, sorry coupon code was invalid, and I even went to the last step in the final check-out, what I'm mostly bummed out is that I'm suppose to be receiving ALL their coupons through my e-mail, especially after buying over 4 to 5 grand of electronics over the last two to 3 years, I would think I should be getting a coupon code like that.......
Oh well, I tried....

I was looking at the back of the VSX-1121-K and very much to my dismay I see they have removed the CD-R/Tape Out In jacks. I still have a lot of audio-books on cassettes.
I saw there was DVR/BDR In/Out jacks. I wonder if it might be possible use these jacks to connect the cassette player/recorder up to the VSX-1121-K. So what do y'all think, would work?
Also if there is another way to connect the cassette to the unite that I've over looked, please fell free to let me know.

I'm in the same boat. Thousands of dollars spent with new egg and I get the shaft! I wonder if its because I buy computer parts and not home theater equipment. So how do you get put on the VIP coupon list, by more? ...

A couple of questions...

1) Has anyone being able to get HDMI pass through working on this? I think I read previously that it would only work with all HDMI sources turned on. Is this correct?

2) Is Best Buy going to start selling this again? Anyone know the official answer on why they pulled this?
