I'm currently trying to improve the settings of my pioneer using some of the MCACC info in this thread and the main MCACC thread. Still working on that as the sound could use some improvement. I have a 5.1 system with Rti A9's as fronts, CSi A6 centre and Rti 8's as surronds. The top end sounded harsh out of the box and has continued that way even after initial calibration.
I have a few questions though. I'm hoping you guys could shed some light on a few things that I haven't been able to find on the forum or in the manual.
First I was playing The Dark Knight bluray through my PS3 earlier and selected Dolby TrueHD in the movies audio settings. However, the receiver doesn't seem to want to decode the TrueHD signal; the light on the front display doesn't come up, only Dolby Digital does, I've also tried cycling throught the different matrix modes on the IControl app, no dice and nothing in the troubleshooting section either. I set the PS3 to bitstream, otherwise in Linear PCM the only thing that is displayed is PCM and it did sound duller to me, though I've read in the thread that it shouldn't make a difference. I use the Fat PS3 btw and it's connected using HDMI. Is there anyway I can get it to play Lossless audio, what am I doing wrong?
Second question. I have my LCD TV connected via HDMI to the HDMI out of the 1121, my tv doesn't support ARC so I also have an optical cable for the audio signal connected to the 1121. I use the tv's built in ATSC tuner for OTA signals. The Dolby surround audio that comes out of the reciever sounds HORRIBLE, any ideas on why that is? Also, when connected this way does the QDEO chip do anyting to the OTA picture or do I need to get a second HDMI cable connecting the Tv's HDMI OUT to one of the 1121's HDMI INs? I thought the picture looked more vibrant but the IControl app doesn't suggested there is anying being upconverted or anything, mind you my TV is only 720P/1080i compatible so perhaps it's only adjusting colours.
Third, I have my FTA satellite STB connected via Component video and the audio using analog cables. The IControl app suggests that picture being output has been bumped to 720P. The picture does look better from what I can tell but not 720P good and I do notice some blockiness, not sure if that would be called artifacting as well as some picture stutter that I don't remember seeing before the 1121. Any ideas on how to improve any of this? Staying with the STB I can't find anywhere where I can adjust input settings to select the correct analog audio input (they're not assignable) so how do I tell the receiver where I plugged them in? I currently don't get any sound off of my STB. Do I have to match the Component DVR slot with the DVR analog audio slot?
If I want to use the virtual height or surround back features will this not allow me to accurately play back Dolby and DTS encoded films?
A final question, for now
. I have Polk Audio RTi A9's as fronts should I leave these set to large when rerunning MCACC they have 3 woofers which I find produce very nice tight bass, on the first run it set everything up as LARGE I don't want that for my centre and surrounds, as I have a subwoofer. Also, Stereo sound out of the A9's sounds worse than the sound coming out of the Rti 8's with my outdated Technics receiver stereo sounded much better so there must be a setting thats making them sound so puny and pathetic.
Any and all help is appreciated,
Thanks!Edited by CrunchEasy - 7/29/12 at 1:25am
