I have a Pioneer VSX-1121-K receiver and a Sony Bravia 820 TV and I'm trying to hook up my headphones to the system.
I'd like to connect my DAC to my system that feeds into a headphone amplifier and I would like to use the optical output of the VSX-1121 to get the best audio signal. However, research and the manual tell me that I can't use this output when using HDMI input...
Is it possible to use my TV's optical output to bypass the receiver (since I don't need it with headphones anyway)? I tried this but I couldn't get it to work, because as soon as I select "TV Speakers", the receiver turns off and I lose audio and video on my TV.
It looks like what I need is HDMI passthrough, correct? I tried to set it up but without luck. When I turn on the TV, I just get no signal to my TV if the receiver is in standby.
Has anyone tried something like this before and could share their experience?
My goal is to have both, my Mac Mini and my cable box to be usable with my headphones. The Mac Mini would provide music and the cable box movies/shows. Is there any way to do this?
If not, is it possible to use a component output instead of the optical? My DAC takes either optical, component, or USB as input.
