Looks like Pioneer has released every one of its 2011 receivers except the one we're waiting for... At least the vsx-52 gives us an idea about what we can expect. Last year the vsx-1120 and the vsx-32 were basically the same receiver; I'm sure we can expect the same from the 52 & 1121.

This is from Pioneer as of today in regards to the 1121-k that we all want to get our hands on.

Yea, this is wierd, why are there so many elite models? I even called both best buy's close to me, I was told by two different magnolia reps, they were not going to carry the 1121-k, and they think cause they carry all the elite models.....

So what gives? I'm almost considering doing something else....

Pioneer did the same thing last year and that is why I have the 1020K!
I got so frustrated and my Sony was failing badly that I had to make the Leap and went to BB and purchased the 1020K.

I am not in that same position this year, so I can wait..however I am looking at the Elite VSX 52

Why do they have so many models? Like 8 or 9 elite models, like they really need that many, if it was not for integrated iPhone / iPad control, which I could just use iRule software and just buy the older 1120-k and be done with it....
I don't get having 8 to 9 Elite models, and then another 5-6 regular VSX models.....

The VSX 40, 50, 51, 52 and 53 are really the new 2011 lineup
The VSX 30, 31, 32, & 33 as well as the SC 35 and SC 37 were there in 2010....

In fact if you look at each model besides the 50, 51, 52 and 53 you will see that they Do Not have the new Air Play and Support for the Ipad and Ipad2

Why they kept them all there I do not know, but it can be deceiving....
Do the Compare of the models and you will see what I am talking about.

The VSX 40 is new but does not have the same features as it's big brothers the 50, 51, 52 and 53.
Also the 50 and 51 do not have the same features as the 52 and 53.

To be on par with the new VSX 1121K you really need to look at the 52 and the 53.

The Features of the 53 over the 52 (per Compare) is listed below:
1) HDMI Input / Output: The 53 = 7 In / 2 Out the 52 = 7 In / 1 Out / The 1121 = 7 In / 1 Out

2) Phase Control: on the 52 is "Plus" where on the 53 it is "Full Band / Plus" / The 1121 has "Plus"

3) Digital Inputs / Output: 53= 5 in the 52 = 5 In / 1 Out / The 1121 = 3 In / 1 Out

4) Multi Room and Source Output: The 53 = 3 Zone (3rd Zone Audio Only) / The 1121 is 2 Zone A/V
the 52 = 2 Zone A/V

5) Zone 3 Sources on the 53 = BD / TV / Sat / DVR / Video / CD / Tuner / Adapter Port.
The 52 does not have this because it does not have a 3rd Zone capability.

6) IR Serial Remote In/Out: The 53 = 2 In / 1 Out and the 52= 1 In / 1 Out / The 1121 = 1 In / 1 Out

7) Front Panel: The 53 = Aluminum Hairline the 52 = Hairline

That is what I can see the extra $200.00 for the VSX 53 gets you over the VSX 52.
The above is from putting them side by side in the "Compare Feature" on the Pioneer Website.

Because the VSX 1121 is not listed yet, the only Specs that we have for it is from the Operating Instructions available for download.
So Print the Spec page of the VSX 1121 and then go to the Pioneer Website and compare that to the VSX 52 and or 53.

You can then see what the extra $150.00 for the VSX 52 gets ya and what the extra $350.00 for the VSX 53 over the 1121K at $750.00 gets you.

If the VSX 52 has enough pluses over the VSX 1121K to rationalize the extra $150.00 then don't wait and get the VSX 52 because it IS Available.

I am going to do what I prescribe above and see what the differences really are..Give me time and I will probably post them here in a follow up Post.

I don't know but after downloading the OP Manual for the VSX 52/53 and comparing with the VSX 1121, I do not see many differences if any between the 52 and the 1121.

So, if you have the money and can find a good deal on a VSX 52, you can't go wrong.
But you can always do the comparison yourself.

And the Saga over the 1121 goes on and on and on.....LOL!

It's a compelling argument re: 1121, 52, 53... but because the 52 & 53 are Elite models, their availability (particularly online) isn't as attractive as that of the 1121. Because of this, last year's 1120 was nicely discounted only a few weeks after being released. The same doesn't hold true of Elite models. That's why I'm holding out for the 1121. The Elite badge, aluminum faceplate, and amber display are nice, but it's tough to justify a VSX-52 when a VSX-1121 possesses nearly identical features. I just hope it doesn't take "months" as reported.

Where do you actually see Pandora? Are you looking at the latest VSX-1121-K owner's manual? I can't find any mention of Pandora.

I really like the new front fascia of VSX-1121..
though when you put it into comparison with the VSX-1120, there´s nothing special improved in raw terms (I emphasize larger consumption, 2 sub pre-outs, AirPlay and DLNA capabilities...my TV itself has DLNA anyway...)
only 50 bucks more means there´s nothing to get itchy for...I guess we can easily rest with the 1120s for another year

So what the heck accounts for the price difference between the 1121 and the vsx-52? According to the datasheet, they are exactly the same.

Better DACs maybe?

A few additional features (minor price implications) and a different marketing strategy.

It is similar to Toyota vs Lexus. There is overlap but the willingness to upgrade to lexus at the entry level helps pad the bottom line. The elite line also gives speciality retailers some options and pioneer tries to protect them through warranty constraints.

I really like the look of this receiver this year. I wish it would hurry up and come out I need a new receiver for sure. By the way what is the difference between the Elite 51 and the 52 series really?

I noticed they show this receiver as 7.1, not 7.2, not sure if that's a deal breaker, I dunno, any difference from 7.2 vs 7.1, and extra sub channel?

I talked to my local magnolia's, and they found no info on the 1121-k, from what they were telling me, they were to be carrying more Elite models, compared to the VSX models.....

Anyone pre-order yet? What do you guy's think, is this the one you've been waiting for?

Well, I'll tell ya, for $100.00 more than the elusive 1121 and with my Best Buy Card with Silver Rewards which will net me 18 or 36 months same as Cash with no interest.
Plus right out of the box the Warranty is doubled on the Elite to 2 years compared to the 1121's 1 year.

Not to jump ship here on the 1121 but I can easily rationalize the $100 bucks extra, plus it IS after all an Elite..
If I can find a VSX 52 at Best Buy..it will be in my living room and cranking this weekend!
No If's And's or But's!

My last question is, the Best Buy Website still shows the Elite VSX 52 as "Coming Soon" So, TheaterChad, where did you see it actually "In Stock" and available for purchase?
