Pioneer VSX-1121 Owner's Thread - Page 3

Hey Bud,
Just call your local BB with status on the Elite 52, I was told that they were getting these models like any time now, and the 1121-k was not in their purchase list, as they are pushing the Elite models, more than the VSX models, ( going buy what the magnolia rep told me ) so from what they were telling me, they are carrying all Elite models, and only certain ones of the lower tier models, the 52 is listed online here, but the 1121-k is not listed, so this may be so for a while, after they eliminate prior models like the 1021-k, and some time passes, they might carry the 1121 later on, but they can't say for sure....

I guess, my question was, the 52 was listed online at BB's site, and the price is 100.00 more than Amazon for the 1121-K, so is the 100 bucks a wash for going with the Elite 52 for better DAC's and some other better quality internals? I printed those sheets on both models, and they are exact, so why are they marketing two different models, when they are so close to being exact.....

Im considering the Elite 52 as well, I could get a major discount at BB, where this could be better way to go.... Decisions, decisions.....

The 1120 got down to $423 at one time on Amazon last fall.

Well, there's the difference, if one can play the waiting game, if you want something now, or wait, what's with the 12v triggers being different?

I'm sure that is true, but by then the 1120 had been out for almost a year!
I can't wait that long..I'm ready to buy now!
I do have a feeling that the 1121 will be out any time now.

By the look of the BB Online site they list virtually ALL of the new Pioneer VSX's as well as Elite models,
I would be very surprised if the 1121 does not show up when it is finally revealed to the general public.

For me, it's all about Best Buy, because I can get the 18 or 36 month "No Interest' on my BB Card.
I don't want to lay out the $900.00 in cash!
It's a nice feature and the same way that I got my Pioneer Kuro Plasma before Pioneer stopped making HDTV's.
That's when I got my BB card because my Kuro was a few thousand $$ the 1121 or E-52 will be a great match for it.

I'm still here but getting very impatient.....which ever one crosses my path first will more than likely get the hook, be it the 1121 or the E52..
As they say, "6 of one, Half Dozen of the other!"
The $100.00 is really inconsequential over time, a few dollars a month!

Careful, newegg is not an authorised dealer, I better double check pioneers site!

WOW, looks like Pioneer added Newegg to their authorised online list, I'm glad I double checked.....Just a note for eveyone, always double check with the manufacturer, about where your looking to buy, or you will have no waranty, they are getting very cautious on non-authorised online sales, and covering waranties.

Well, as Bud put it, it all depends how soon you want it, or if you can wait, I can get a BB employee discount, and I'm looking to buy asap, as I'm ready to start finishing my middle atlantic rack in my basement...
Wow, look at the post below mine, sdbarnes lookes like he found the link at BB for the 1121-k, wow, I love the sales people that tell us customers one thing, and something else happens....

Just checked this morning and the 1121-k is now showing up online at bestbuy.com. Says it's backordered and can be ordered online or in store.

Well, I just ordered one off of Newegg and it let me complete the transaction so I'm hoping they actually have them in stock. Once I get a shipping notification I'll post back.

Newegg had the 1120's for cheap. Then out of no where they de-listed all the Pioneer receivers early this year. Glad they are back up now. Just hoping they come down in price ASAP!!!

Figures I literally just spent all my money on server upgrades (egg is delivering today) and they finally release this receiver.

Well it's still listed there now, and it's 11:30 cst...

Yup, just got my tracking info. It's on it's way. Amazon, etc still has it listed as Coming Soon.

I have to admit that I went by Best Buy today and they had the Elite VSX 52 in stock, I listened to it (but I already knew that I was going to buy it)
Thought a bit and then went to get the salesman and said that "I'll Take It!"
I put the Extended Warranty for 4 years on it and I just got it home.

An Operators Manual does come with it along with a CD.
So, I'm now checking the OP Manual to go through all of the setup procedures and get serious because I now own it!

Right of the bat I do not like the way the power cord plugs into the receiver, it does not feel very secure and feels like it should go in further..
Let me know what the 1121's are like.

Just because I have the 52 everything else should be exact to the 1121.

I won't really have it up and running until tomorrow night..
I need to pick up a long HDMI Cable that I can get at Sam's Club and some RCA to 1/4 inch patch cables so I can plug in my Left and Right Front pre-outs from the 52 into my Mixing Console.
The 52 will only power my Center HDTV Bar and Surrounds because my Crown Power Amps via Mixing console will take the Main Left and Right and Subs.
At least that's the plan, I'll have to see how well it works.
I did a quick Pre-Out to my Mixer and thankfully the Pre-Outs are Variable so once I set the balances from Center, Surrounds and Mixer all of the volumes should rise and lower equally and together.

Well now the posts will start..How do I do this and That..The Learning Curves have begun!
Those waiting for delivery, now is a good time to study up, figure out your physical Setup and walk through it to make sure that you have all of the necessary HDMI, RCA's and etc cables.
I'm making a list, going through boxes of cables and deciding what I need to get and what I have, I'll pick up any cables that I do not have tomorrow.

Can't wait until it's all up and running.

Quick plug for Monoprice... I highly recommend giving yourself some time and ordering your cables in advance as they are a tenth of the cost of most other online retailers and b&m stores.

I ordered a 25 Foot High Speed HDMI Cable from them and 12 of their Banana Plugs.
In fact I just did my speakers tonight with these Bananas..real fast..
Strip off about an 1/8th of an inch, push the wire through the screw threaded portion, fold back the strands and screw it together.
It took me no time at all...There is a video and the Bananas on the Linked Page below...

Got my E52 up and running..Sounds Great and I have not done the MCACC or my Surrounds.
that will be tomorrow or Saturday and then I will set up the Mic and do The Calibration.

That's good news on the egg. Never could figure out how Pioneer could directly ship mass quantities of receivers to a retailer without claiming they were authorized. What did they think the egg was going to do with them?

In any case, I've loved my 1120. If the 1121 is at least as good, it is going to be amazing. I just wish I could get the new ipad app for the 1120 ...

I really like the look of the new vsx 52 and I am considering waiting for the 1121 variant, but my biggest question for all of you on this thread is that it seems like the vsx 32 is not much (if any) of a step down from these and can be had for a fraction of the price right now. I dont know what I will be gaining if I purchase the new more expensive model now. Anyone?

The Pioneer VSX-1120 was $475 from J&R in October of 2010 only 3 months after it came out...

You'll be gaining AirPlay. I don't know about you, but for me, that's a pretty important feature. Also I hear the UI is improved. I'm sure there are other design improvements too--electrical architecture and things of that nature... I guess it's a matter of weighing whether having this year's model is worth the "gotta have it now" price.

Thats about what i paid for my 1120k last fall. Looking to replace the 1120k for a AVR to trigger off and on my Emotiva amp.

I just opened up each Brochure, the Elite VSX 52 and the VSX 1121
and then started looking at the back of each receiver, section by section.
When I looked at the lower left hand corner of the two receivers I saw a difference....
There is NOT a dual 12 volt Trigger on the 1121's rear panel, however if you scan up on the 1121's Brochure you will see that it does state that there is in fact a "Dual 12 Volt Trigger!"

I then opened the Elite VSX 52 and the VSX 1121 Owner manuals, the E52 OP Manual under section 03 "Connecting Your Equipment" has a selection titled, "Using the 12 Volt Trigger" page 24.
In the OP Manual for the VSX 1121 there is no selection for a 12 Volt Trigger.
Just an FYI if this is a feature that you were definitely counting on using with the 1121.

So far that is the only difference that I have found in Electronics, the other differences are in Warranty and Cosmetics.

I went to (a non-Magnolia) BestBuy yesterday and sure enough, they had a 1121, new in box sitting below a 1021. According to the salesman, they've had it for almost three weeks and it was the only one they had, so they didn't want to make it a display model until they got more in stock. I didn't want to push the issue, but I would definitely like to see one in person at some point. I was just shocked that they had one sitting there for 3 weeks!

Like many others here, I think I'll wait for this puppy to shed some of its asking price before I pull the trigger. I also second the suggestion to make this a combined VSX-1121/VSX-52 thread.

Looking forward to hearing some opinions from the early adopters!

I was on the Pioneer site and I noticed that it does not show the VSX 1121 pictured in the 2011 LineUp, however when you click on "View Models"
the VSX 1121 is listed second from the top, right under the VSX 521.

I really wish that you could compare the Elite VSX 52 right next to the VSX 1121, unfortunately you can only compare the Elite's to the Elite's and the VSX's to the VSX's!
I did open the Spec page for the VSX-1121 in Mozilla and then the Elite VSX-52 in Internet Explorer, re-size the pages and put them side by side,
they each show small differences and different wording of features under each tab, not to mention that things are in different places from one to the other.
I think that it's like the ball under the 3 Cups and follow it as they move it around! LOL!

Five days with my Elite 52 and I'm all smiles..
I swear that the picture on my Plasma looks better due to the E52's Video Processing!
It could be an Optical Illusion Too! LOL!

I've had the E52 for 4 days now and I am satisfied so far. This replaced an Integra 5.9 that I had in my setup which now is retired to the basement TV. I will post all my impressions soon. I also would like to second the power cord not feeling like it is plugged in completely. It almost feels like the prongs on the back of the receiver aren't thick enough.

One big problem I have ran into though is that when the receiver is in HMG mode the receiver doesn't respond to the remote control commands. It will not toggle up down or select anything, the only way I can toggle or select is using the buttons on the receiver. The receiver does however respond to the remote commands when I am in the menu and everywhere else. Anyone else who owns this receiver (Bud) having this issue? Can anyone give some input?
