Happy Endings on ABC-HD - Page 2

I really enjoyed the last episode. It was a return to form I thought. It was as good as some of the better ones from last season. The "torn" duet was priceless!

I enjoy Happy Endings, it's not exceptional but it's a fine addition to the "three couples" tradition and takes the sting out of the loss of Traffic Light which I was apparently the only one that watched...
Did I mention all three women in Happy Endings are hot in their own way?
Yes they are all hot but different. They are all likable in different ways too.

Great slipped in line about Jane's dream board having a picture of a guy from In Living Color.

I want a whisker basket!

Well their Halloween episode was a return to season 1 form in my opinion. Lots of awesome this episode. ZZ Top Gun, the entire thing with Alex, the cold ending. Loved it!

TV Notes
'Once Upon a Time,' Tim Allen get full season orders
By James Hibberd, EW.com's 'Inside TV' blog - November 3rd, 2011

ABC is giving out some happy endings.

Fairy tale drama Once Upon a Time is among three shows which just landed a full-season pickup at the network. The order is a bit unusual since only two episodes have aired, but Once is ranked as the highest-rated new drama of the fall, averaging 12.3 million viewers and a hearty 4.0 rating among adults 18-49. Plus, Once held onto its strong Sunday night premiere rating in Week 2 despite facing increased competition and that's very rare.

Here's two more shows getting nine more episodes from ABC:

- Tim Allen's new comedy Last Man Standing (averaging 12.7 million viewers and a 3.7 according to most current data which includes some DVR playback). Standing has had some ratings erosion since it premiered, but has given ABC a foothold on Tuesdays at 8 p.m.

- And, yup, returning comedy Happy Endings (7.9 million, 3.5), which performed modestly as a midseason replacement earlier this year and has since blossomed in the fall.

Absent from the list: Pan Am (8.4 million, 2.8), which has been slightly below the line of what ABC wants to see on Sundays. ABC is ordering 5 more scripts for the show, but holding off on a pickup. With a new showrunner at the helm, the network is hoping the series will improve in the coming weeks (a press email this morning noted Pan Am is HUGE in Sweden so it's got that going for it).

Also: Last Man Standings less popular Tuesday night companion Man Up (7.3 million, 2.2) was left out.

Dany Delany's returning crime drama Body of Proof (11.2 million, 2.4) has been helping out ABC at 10 p.m. on Tuesdays, but the network has five unaired episodes left over from last season and therefore doesn't feel like it necessarily has to order any additional hours.

Happy Endings has quietly made it's way up the list of my favorite must see shows. I now find myself watching it before Modern Family on Wednesdays (both DVRed of course)

It's one of my favorite shows at the moment. A great cast all-around and the writing is really really tight.

Yep. It has definitely risen to a top-tier comedy. Last night's episode was probably the funniest, most well-executed show yet. Loved the work-spouse storyline. Penny nailed her impersonation of Jane, complete with wacky utterings and hands in mouth. Also think they made good use of Alex in the oddly-lovestruck role. Brad as always was hilarious. Ensemble comedy at its best.

Having Happy Endings after Modern Family was such a brilliant move by ABC. It gained alot of carry over viewers. I always wondered that if they tossed Better Off Ted behind Modern Family 2 years ago, could it have saved my beloved Ted? I think so.

Great ep, I couldn't breathe when Jane was talking to the mail guy.

All I can say is Dave must be one heavy sleeper....

"I'm familiar with the three-hole punch."

Hilarious writing. Absolutely one of the best comedies on TV now.

Just watched the first two episodes of 2012 and thought they were great. Not many shows can pull off a fingering joke as well as this one. One of the best ensembles casts on TV. Loved the racist parrot and Brad's reactions to it. Also loved Brad's reaction to Dave's dad referring to the "black mall".

Great quotes tonight. "don't touch me. I'll explode like a water bottle on a cross country trip to albequerque." and "I signed us up for a mini-marathon, so if anyone asks, we're dwarves."

Yeah, one of the absolute best ensemble comedy casts on TV. I wish Damon was able to work on this and New Girl. He's so much funnier than the guy that replaced him.

This is one of my favorite shows right now. Even if it wasn't as good as it is I'd still watch it for Elisha Cuthbert. I'd wax that ass like Mr. Miyagi. I'd wax it on...and off...on...and off...

I laugh out loud more with this show than any other on tv now. Great show and yeah, Cuthbert is smoking hot.

The show just gets better and better. I busted a gut when Dave walked in with the sweater and hat.

One of the things they do that I love is roll right over the jokes - like the great "water bottle" line noted above is immediately followed by Max asking where the flight is out of.

Another good ep this week.

It's funny, because I think "New Girl" is a poor man's "Happy Endings," yet I get the feeling New Girl beats Happy Endings in ratings. Besides day of airing and timeslot issues, is there any reason people would watch New Girl, but not Happy Endings? I watch New Girl, but Happy Endings week after week gets more laughs.

Why do you guys think this show gets no love here?

Also, curious if anyone else sees "New Girl" as just a poor man's "Happy Endings," which also makes you wonder why New Girl gets so much more PR than Happy Endings. Is it simply because New Girl stars Zoey Deschanel?

Its a very different show. I find Happy Endings worthwhile but the characters are very over the top and the lines are almost all jokes which sometimes are mumbled or said so fast (with barely any space in between comments) that you have to back it up to catch it. The situations are so silly that basically this is just a show to watch for the jokes. New Girl has more in depth characters and the situations are more serious although Schmidt comes the closest as a person who could exist in that world. My wife and daughter both really like New Girl and don't really like Happy Endings. When they watch Happy Endings with me, I am sometimes embarrassed at some of the jokes but usually each one of them have one thing they think is pretty funny. For me, last night the thing that got me was the Mexican restaurant that was used as a break up spot with the tables bolted down, plastic silverware and the Mariachi band.
"Mary Tyler Moore Tyler Moore Moore Moore," the restaurant sex flashbacks, and the breakup restaurant flashbacks all killed me.

I think this is one of the best comedies on right now. Doesn't hurt that Elisha has been looking really good lately. Damon Wyans, Jr is hilarious, it's too bad they couldn't keep him on New Girl.

Happy Endings definitely has more pop culture jokes, there's always multiple pop culture jokes each ep, like the most recent ep throwing out a "Degrassi Junior High" reference. Love it when a Degrassi reference can pop up!

I get that Happy Endings and New Girl are different types of shows, but I always figured they'd still appeal to the same demographic as both shows are comedies obsessed with male-female interactions/relationships and to me at least, have a similar vibe.

Still stands to ask, why is New Girl way more popular/getting more buzzz than Happy Endings? Is it simply because New Girl has Zoey Deschanel and right now, she's bigger than anyone on Happy Endings?

Pappy-
LOVED the Degrassi reference!!! This show is killer right now.

Great episode last night. Loved that each member of Mandonna was wearing a different Madonna outfit. Also like how they've played off the Dave/Penny and Dave/Alex storylines.

Way to early for a Season Finale, but that is what we got last night. After watching the show it had that feel about it and when I looked in the guide sure enough that's it for now.

I've really been enjoying it, but I hope they tone down Penny's speach short cuts next season, for me it was wearing a bit thin.
