I am new to to this Plasma, LCD/LED thing so I can't really compare to any other Brands, however, it's wasn't a make or break for me in my upgrade.

I just can't credit the TV's Great PQ on the TBF in my opinion

I don't regret the upgrade due to overall features, especially the higher Contrast Ratio, which I feel was the make or break factor for me.

Thanks for the input. Currently I have the pv450 and glare and being washed out in the day is terrible. The panny st30 I had was great in this regard. Bummer that LG's filter is not that good.

It seems that LG uses service code to describe what exactly inside TV. Also tech used it to find compatible parts.
Mine TV service code is 60PZ950-UA.AUSZLHR. So guys, what service codes do you have?

Do you know if the tech that came out tested any voltages? When I was tweaking the pots on my pv450 I ended up with quite a few picture distortions. I put all the voltages back to the spec on the label inside the tv and it fixed the issues, but I also have a much cleaner picture now, much less noise, etc. There is one pot that adjusts the POP of the picture and this may be causing these fluctuations.

No, he did not. He told me that it is "digital problem"...

Which one (Vb, Vzb, ...) ?
Pretty sure it's vzb. Check out the lg tweaks thread to be sure though. I still think this might be a voltage adjustment issue....

Hey nshvydky, have you been watching your blu-rays in 24p? In the PV450 thread, lifesun mentioned a similar problem to yours and said that switching to 60hz instead of 24p seemed to help. Maybe try those same scenes you posted earlier in 60hz?

Switching to 24p may be reduce it a little, but problem is still there, you just see it on different scenes.
Actually I had a chance to check 60PZ950 with the old panel version, and I did not see this effect. There are some brightness fluctuations, but not gamma or color.

I still think its worth you or having a tech verify that all voltages are in spec....

Today I got 3-rd replacement. Same service code, so the same panel and boards. Manufactured in December. Same problem...

Do you now believe the problem is the panel and not the boards? If so we're probably SOL. I doubt LG is going to replace the whole panel with something that actually works. They will say, "These fluctuations are within normal operating parameters," continue to replace boards and other parts that won't fix the problem until our warranties run out, then we will be on our own, because that is the cheapest option for them.

Unfortunately this why I finally gave up on the 2011 plasmas, Thought it could be a voltage issue but I guess not, sorry to hear that you are still having issues. Watched horrible bosses on my pv450 last night and saw the FBR issue again. I hadn't saw the issue since the voltage adjustment, but it's still here although reduced. Guess this is a LG 2011 issue across the board. Bummer, great sets for the price other than this....

I believe it is a bug in the new control boards (EBR73837101).

I noticed that sometimes I do not see the problem on the same scene but I see it on another. The control board has temperature sensor so it might slightly change behavior if temperature is different. However I am not sure about that. I guess there could be some other factors.
So I came up with a test which always shows the problem to me. I use my PC for that. I set wallpaper to solid black, then open a picture (actually a screeshot from a scene where I saw this problem) and notepad (with no text, just blank white). Then I am resizing notepad and in the same time looking on the picture. Normally with bigger white area the picture should just be darker (because of ABL). But because of this problem, some colors on the picture become brighter, so the whole picture looks different. And this happens only on specific APLs (on some notepad sizes).

I wanted to share my calibration settings for pz950 owners from my 20 point IRE calibration. I have a pz750 but these settings should work for pz950s. i know one user with a pz950 has already mentioned he was able to get a much clearer picture quality with these settings as well.

All i can say is that my picture has drastically improved and looks clearer and crisper than any preset setting, including THX settings!!

original calibration post: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...7#post21494197

as the link shows i used colorHCFR along with an iDisplay2 to do a complete 20 point IRE to adjust to 6500K.

My goal is to get the best picture out of this thing so feel free to try these settings and let me know what you think. Thanks!

Thx for taking the time to perform this and of course share! Can you or someone explain to me the above bolded numerical values: How to access them, what exactly are they?

Calibration for Dummies?

In order to access these calibration settings, you have to chose Expert1 as your preset, adjust all the easu settings (contrast, brightness, etc) then go to advance settings.

The bottom of the second advance settings menu asks for method, change from 2 point to 20 point.

then below, IRE should be already set to 5 with corresponding Red, Green, and Blue calibrations. adjust them to my values (-5 for red,-3 for green,8 for blue). then move back up to IRE and change to 10, go back down and adjust Red green and blue to the second set (5,0,22).

Basically change the red green and blue levels for every IRE level listed above from 5 all the way up to 100. You are modifying the amount of red green and blue at each progressive level of brightness up to 100% in 5% increments...

You need to be in Expert1 or Expert2 mode. Check the link I povided for more information on the settings and on saving the settings correctly.

Let me know if these settings look good.

PZ's settings are nice. Very natural. I switch between this one and the flatpanelsHD one modified.

Did anyone ever get an ISF calibration?

Glad to hear the settings are giving 950 users decent picture quality. I spent a while searching the internets before i gave up on magically finding someones iSF settings... So started searching for the next best thing... How to do it myself! ...for cheap of course...

Im not gonna lie, i spent a long time tweaking these settings and after i was fed up, i just accepted that this was as good as i was gonna get. But knowing me, ill be back at it next weekend!

Unless someone reveals their settings

60 PZ950 Owner

Just finished performing your suggested settings.

Very interesting. Definitely more "pop"!

Few questions:

With these much higher contrast settings, these watermarks from channels (particularly TLC, TRAVEL, SHOWTIME) the lettering if ultra bright and stands out much more! I'm concerned about burn in...? Especially with bright white lettering against darker movies.

And can you educate me on how you came about the specific RGB settings from 5-100?
Some are zero value where others are pretty high values?

Thanks, Marcus

I used this website and basically followed the directions to acheive my results.
You have to use a colorimeter (xrite idisplay 2- which has been discontinued so price is very reasonable. Plus it calibrates laptops automatically which is another bonus)and some free software do this, not something u can do by eye.

Heres another website with more tools

Okay... I had posted moments after the above setting tweaks, and as I feared, as soon as I changed channels the ghosting image of these fracking channel watermarks/logos was very apparent!
I have turned contrast back down to 55.

I would like to hear feedback on this...

Surely others have noticed?

As far as the contrast, these settings are actually much lower on my tv than when i calibrated with disneys WoW alone which had me at a contrast of 96! Static images look to stay much briefer than before for me so i see this as a great improvement. This tv does pretty well for getting rid of image retention.

Ive had the tv since September at da same time i bought a ps3 and I have played tons of games for hours straight (gta, red dead, god of war, mgs, etc) and images will go away after changing channels for a few minutes. This tv handles all inage retention positively.

I only recently did the calibration and already i see or dont see the level of image retention i dd before. I think you'll be fine.

I guess we'll wait for others... I dont think the 750 and 950 would handle image retention that much differently... But maybe it does...the only other thing i can think of is making sure you're running the latest firmware.

Glad everythings better! I am really liking these settings! U gotta watch a bluray movie to truely enjoy! Its also the best way to compare to all other presets and see the improvements! I cringe when i go through some of those presets now, no joke. But use the magic wand to change so theres no scrolling delay
