You can actually transfer the IRE values easily by selecting to save values for all inputs in the IRE menu so that IRE stays same for cable and tv....

BUT i have found that if you lock in your settings in using 8741, you can no longer copy the IRE values across your inputs. this means you have to manually change IREs for every input. I didnt like this so I ended up resetting my tv to get rid of the 8741 lock.

Also, when selecting to save values to all inputs, the TV will only save the IRE calibration. Once you switch from cable over to HDMI, you will have to manually adjust other settings such as brightness, color, tint, CMS, etc.

I couldn't have explained this better myself thanks
I saved on Expert 2 and locked on Night Mode like pz750 said.

Gamma was a bit tricky so used Disney WOW HD for Brightness and Contrast.
Extremely happy with these settings. I just now need to know how to set Gamma and rest of Color settings to feel 100 percent complete. the way was described in colorscale for dummies set contrast too Dull for my taste.

If someone could tell me what their measured black levels are like after these exact settings, that would be awesome! I don't think they are crushed but others might differ.

Special thanks to thread user pz750 for inspiring me to do with his settings and for his great advice!

Peace

I just received my new 3d glasses with the right firmware 0.64. We watched Hugo on AT&T uverse in 3d. The glasses didn't shut off!!! Finally, this problem is solved.

Now my new issue,

When we watched the movie, I noticed in quite a few scences that the picture seemed not quite focused. What I mean is for example if I looked at a face of a character I could see a second layer of the image slightly shifted to the right so it would create a shifted double layer. It seemed like the 3d glasses didn't quite covert the picture into 3d. 3d was definetly working, but it had this problem. I tested two of my glasses, they both did the same thing. It is hard for me to describe hopefully somebody knows what I'm talking about.

Derod's setting are the bomb and the best I've tested so far.

I was wondering if anybody has played around with 3d settings?
why is it its either to red or to green in the pic.the THX mode is to red and Derod's settings is a littel to green, well its nothing like a perfect picture unless you get it calibrated,to bad we dont have none in norway.
The software used by derod was originally suggested by another forum user pz750, his settings have been posted a few pages back. For me his settings came closest to a more natural pallette on my display with whites that had no hint of green or red. Try them and see what you think. I use both settings assigned to expert settings 1 & 2. To be honest I'm grateful to both you guys (derod & pz750) as I don't have the time or patience to calibrate my set. Thanks again

Im trying to redo my settings but things get frustrating... Trying to get the gamma up to 2.2 and have had a little success. Through trial and error i can adjust the gamma by droppin the green IRE values across all gradients as low as i can. First i set red to -50ish and then try to fit the green and blue to line up. It does improve the gamma a bit but then i lose detail in the picture because the colors are darker... But this method has also helped drop my luminance values closer to refernce curve.

Does anyone know what are the luminance reference values are? If u use the colorHCFR program u get a nice reference curve for luminance but i dont know if i can corrolate any values during a scan of any point of the IrE to that luminance?

Just received and hooked up my 60PZ950. First off, seems to be a great TV.

Last night, had the "pleasure" of watching Tangled with my wife and 4 year old in 3D.

I had a couple of issues. First, in Bright scenes, the 3D looked EXCELLENT. However, when a "dark" scene came up, We were experiencing enormous crosstalk.

Disclaimer, I haven't updated the firmware on the TV yet, I plan on doing that tonight. Will this HOPEFULLY correct this issue?

Also, we have 3 pairs of the AG-S250's.
1. How do I see which firmware version they are? There seems to be an issue of the .63 not working correctly. Is this somewhere on the box?
2. WTF is up with LG not releasing the AG-S230's here in the US? This has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. We literally, had to hold the S250's on my daughter's face. Needless to say, she only allowed that to open for about 10 minutes. I had no idea this was even going to be a problem when I purchased this, otherwise, I may have had to go with some type of Passive setup.
3. Can anyone here tell me how, if they did, purchase the S230's? Or, if anyone has any extra's, want to trade?

Appreciate any insight.

Firmware is on the side of the glasses' box.
The update to the tv firmware took care of some 3d issures but dont expect perfection. I rarely even use 3d anymore... Gets old pretty quick..

Picked up my 50pz950 last weekend at Frys for $799. At that price, I couldn't resist. I have been happy with the tv so far. I find the black levels to be fine, and so far with 125 hours on the set, I have no regrets..

I've been enjoying my 60PZ950 ever since I bought it last June, but last night something bad happened to my TV.

While watching the TV, it just turned off! I turned it back on & got only a black screen. I tinkered with the inputs & maybe 30 seconds later a distorted picture appeared with white horizontal lines all in the picture.

Then I noticed the dreaded "burnt electronics" smell coming from the TV, and as I moved closer to the TV the smell was really strong! So I immediately turned it off & unplugged it! The smell was so strong that it stunk up the whole house.

I submitted a warranty request on the LG website this morning, but haven't heard anything yet.

So has anyone else ever encountered something like this? Any idea what might have fried? I'm guessing maybe capacitor(s).

I'm wondering how long it usually takes for LG to send out a repairman? Hopefully they have decent support. ...but what are the chances that they'll have to order the replacement part, resulting in NO TV for an extended period of time while waiting on the part?

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Call them and harass them continually. Took them 3 months to replace my PX950 and they were a huge PITA.

Sorry to hear you had such a hassle with them.

So far things "seem" to be going well with my TV repair. LG contacted a local repair shop & I've already spoke to them a couple of times late Friday evening.

They seem very nice & said my TV probably needs a main board & power board based on my description of the problem. They're supposed to order the parts today & let me know when they arrive.

They told me that LG is usually very good about sending the parts quickly, and they told me that they ship the parts overnight if they're in stock. The "in stock" part is the thing that's got me worried. ...and the repair shop could just be BS'ing me... who knows!?

While shopping for a washer/dryer a few months ago a salesperson at a local big-box store said LG was notorious for not having replacement parts in stock. I hope that only applies to washers & dryers!

I'll post back here again after I hear back from the repair shop and/or get my TV fixed.

Hi all, I have been lurking around on this forum for a few months, learning what I could, and just pulled the trigger on a LG 60PZ950 from Fry's last night. Since I didn't expect the 2012 model to be a quantum leap ahead from the PZ950, I jumped on the closeout deal.

I will be hoping to put all the info here to good use in the coming weeks. I am really looking forward to some excellent movie viewing. Thanks to all who have contributed setup info to this thread. I don't expect I will be hiring someone to professionally calibrate the set but will try to dial it in on my own. That should be adequate since it will be for general family use, not a dedicated videophile application.

The next thing I have in mind is an Oppo 3D blu-ray player to go with it.

The tv is an amazing deal at $1,099 for casual viewers. Unfortunately, I've come to realize that the 2011 sets from each manufacturer weren't all that great, and have been vastly improved upon this year. Most of the issues like weak black levels and poor 3D performance in dark scenes won't even be noticed by most people.

The fact that the ST50 from Panasonic is a better tv than their VT30 flagship from last year is striking. I'm expecting LG to have similar quality breakthroughs, or else they will be beaten handily by Panasonic this year.

Bhazard, thanks for your input. I believe I can tweak the black level using info from this thread, so that should not be a significant issue. As to the 3D performance in dark scenes, from what I understand the 3D novelty is great at first but a lot of viewers get over it after a while and just watch in 2D anyway. Not sure how that will go in my household but for me, at this time, it just wasn't worth waiting to see what the pros and cons of the newer sets would be (and they will still have their cons) and paying the extra $$$. I think we'll be fine with the PZ950 for the next couple of years or more. Especially when you consider it is replacing a 27" CRT

so about 2 weeks ago I got one hell of a deal for my 50pz950, $550 brand new + 2 free glasses. It has a been a major upgrade from my samsung LN40C670. so far I love it except for the well document 3D glasses problem. the one's i got with the TV were both firmware v.63 I contacted LG and they are sending me two new glasses to replace them. They said I have to send back the old one's for exchange. I was just wondering, since I didn't buy it through them and they dont' have any of my billing info......... do I really need to send them back? Has anyone tried just hanging onto them after the replacements come in?

Well i kept them. If anyone visits, they can keep resetting them every 10 minutes while i stay synced the whole time...

3d gets old tho, i actually havent used them since i got the new pair.
Some of you guys lucked out. I had to wait til they received my 4 defective pairs before they shipped out new ones to me!
It took a while but I talked them down a lot because I spend a lot of my money with best buy. Their official price right now is 799+2 glasses so you night be able to get them to get glasses for you. But I do know they are really low on stock of the glasses, I had to pick them up from a different store.

I was sent a letter by LG that my glasses are on the way and that I should send back the old ones in the same packaging but I think I'm just going to wait and see what happens.

I'll post back here again after I hear back from the repair shop and/or get my TV fixed.

The repairmen came last Thursday & replaced the power board & the main board, but that did NOT fix it. The repairmen then called LG & did some diagnostics with them on the phone. They determined that it was likely the PANEL.

So they had to order it. The panel arrived Tuesday & they installed it yesterday. Now my TV is... well, IT'S ALIVE!!! YES!!!

The panel they installed had all the circuit boards installed on it, except for the 2 boards the repairmen replaced the 1st time, so basically EVERYTHING is new except for the TV case & the internal connector cables!

I asked the repairmen about a "what if" scenario: What if I had paid hundreds of dollars to have my TV professionally calibrated? All those settings would've been lost. They basically said that I'd be SOL!! I didn't have that done, but I did actually consider it! If I had... that would've really sucked!

So I was without my TV for a total of 12 1/2 days. I guess that's not too bad.

Hey - I am enjoying my new Pz950 and was hoping I could get some advice on the best universal remote for this tv .. I really want the remote that will be able to control the t.v. well rather than my devices ... A remote that will access the t.vs menus, control the 3d and things like that.. Hopefully someone who has more experience with the tv can help me out -

New Firmware for the 60pz950 came out today. I have no idea what it upgraded in the firmware and I could find no documentation on it.
The new version is 4.03.01. If anyone finds out what it upgraded let us know.

I just turned TV on and it said it found an update and then I told it to do it and it did.
