I am new here, just replaced my old HC1100 for a almost new (80 hours) HC4000.

I am having a great problem calibrating the brightness, using AVS disk.

I have my lamp at normal mode, and using the basic balck clipping pattern even setting the brightness to 30 I cannot see any gryey lines.

Please any help would be apreciated I kinda hoplless here. maybe the unit is defected?

thanks.

sounds like your pc is outputting a 0-255 level (you can change this in the control panel if you want) ... but all you need to do is change the level from enhanced in IMAGE - ADVANCED MENU - INPUT LEVEL

OK. so changing TO enhanced mode solve the issue and I am able to see the black lines in the AVS clabiration disk, BTW I can choose 0-255 or 16-235 in my popcornhour, what should I choose?

BTW, I can choose enhanced only in HD content, using monster disk calibration (DVD) I cannot go into advanced -> so I cannot see the black lines.

Thanks!

I have a WDTV Live and really wrestle with crushed blacks (no shadow detail) on the HC4000.

In the WDTV settings, I ended up switching off of YCbCr to RGB Low (16-235) and leaving the Image>Advanced>Input Level to Auto or Normal.

This is because:

For 16-235 using Enhanced, I think many have experienced that the brightness control won't go low enough to hit the right setting (-30 is the lowest -- needs to go lower).

For RGB High (0-255), using Enhanced I can get the black levels calibrated closely but not exactly to what the test pattens ask for.

Hey guys my HC4000 bulb finally gave up the ghost, scared me when it went, it exploded and late it night kind of caught me off guard. I have pulled the assemble, looks like everything was contatined but wanting to get opinions, appears that they use osram bulbs.

Has anyone here just replaced the lamp and not the whole assembly? I do not want to get a knock off bulb but appears that just replacing the lamp would be the cheapest route while using the same OE bulb, the housing looks fine as far as I can tell.

I think I was close to 3500 hours on mine, I think what got mine is with kids it gets turned on/off too much, thanks in advance smile.gif

BTW the Lamp is an OSRAM lamp and made in China...

Update, i didn't want to take the chance of getting an off market osram bulb, not sure how you know if the bulbs are legit so I just ponied up and purchase the mits replacement, mid $200, ouch !

Seems quite reasonable for an OEM replacement assy, compared to other PJ's...

Where'd you get it from? Mits site? It'd be good to know where people are getting bulbs from, should mine go.

Yeah I was originally just looking at replacing the lamp itself, you can see the bulb and the mfg part number and I found some that were much much cheaper, but not sure how you could ensure you were getting a "real" one, if you know what I mean...so I just went with the mits one...

I went with provantage, similar to CDW but they usually beat them on pricing which they did here. Its not a projector company but sells electronic items, networking equipment etc. I have used them in the past, just more than I would like to pay.

I should start charging my kids, since they are the ones racking up all of the hours wink.gif

I have used Provantage several times to buy original manufacturer projector bulbs. Typically the have the best price, highly recommended.

Hi everyone. I recently bought HC4000 and had it installed by professionals but after ~10 hours of use it shuts down by itself. No matter whether i use it for hour or five, it may shut down without a warning. It's really annoying and takes couple minutes to come back alive. I've tried unplugging power cable for 30minutes and replugging but no effect. Any help would be highly appreciated. It shouldnt overheat or anything. Installed properly.

You need to exchange it with Mitsubishi or the vendor you purchased it from.

Great. And then it takes ages before I get something for replacement..

Assuming you bought new, it should take a few days normally. And assuming you're within 30 days of purchase, Mits would normally ship out a new HC4000 immediately and email a UPS (or fedex, etc.) label for your DOA unit. Just mention you essentially have a DOA within the 30 day replacement period.

Mitsubishi is exemplary in this regard.

Hey Flea:

What you up to these days, still got a Mits hc3800?

What about you BishopT, still on the 4000? Weren't you the one that had tried a w6000 initially and sent it back?
Yup, still with the HC3800!

I only use it for movies and my schedule isn't movie friendly. Only have around 500hrs or so on the original lamp. And, I still have another free new lamp from the rebate offer when I got the HC3800 biggrin.gif

I don't expect to move up to another PJ for at least a year or 2, and when I do, it'll probably be a JVC. Would love to stick with DLP, but that tech has just been super stagnant for god knows how many years now.

But for my needs now, and my small negative gain gray screen, my HC3800 is dialed in pretty good, it's still very impressive....better than most commercial theaters, and at worst, matching them (IMAX, etc.).

Most of the 'bad' image quality that I see is the source content. Even Blu's still vary quite a bit with PQ, but they seem to be getting better on the average. That being said, I probably get more upset over the quality of the source rather than my HC3800 vs a JVC tongue.gif

Awesome, I'm still stirring up the FIERCE tea-pot in the forum at times, but I think I'm about retired from it pretty soon, it's probably not great for my BP.

Tea Pot? You certainly wouldn't want to have to hold the ladle I use to stir the Witch's caldron that bubbles over at times. eek.gif It's the price we pay for being both informed, opinionated, and sharing what we've learned with others. There are always going to be those who disagree....but ya know most of them rant and rail then fade away because they don't have much of a commitment beyond simply trying to make a point.

I've thought about retiring from the Forum myself...I've even taken a couple sabbaticals, but I always "stay tuned' and when I see some soul needing advice and getting none...or poor offerings, I'm always pulled back.

You've helped quite a few indecisive Members get good choices. The multiples helped put you ahead of the many who don't bother much...if at all. The Forum needs and thrives on such selfless activism, and it will sorely miss a Member of your worth's contribution.

I vote that you see your Cardiologist more often, have him up your prescription dose for Atenol, and keep your presence active.

Your needed and appreciated.

Thanks MM.
I didn't mean retiring from the forum, I just meant retiring from getting into arguments, or giving overly strong opinions...

I am too busy working on these new tools to retire from the forum. The other thing is, if I say X and X projector was NOT bad, but I have been more impressed at times with other models...
Then someone gets mad and they aren't very likely to use my software. Need to make more friends and fewer adversaries.

Boy these JVC lamps, I had my mercury fill for the month with the exploding JVC lamp (@1500 hrs), if anyone missed that episode...
Leaking mercury shards when I pulled the lamp.

Mercury is fun!
I remember as a kid (8 or 9 years old) wanting to stay home from school.. so I said I didn't feel good, then when mom stuck the thermometer in my mouth (you know glass with mercury in it .. this was back in the 70s). When she wasn't looking, stuck it in the gravy of my TV dinner to get it up over normal.
Yep, it popped.. so I picked it out of the dinner and played with the mercury ball on the table for a while till mom came looking for the thermometer.. ate the dinner and never washed my hands.. still livin and not quite brain dead yet..biggrin.gifeek.gif Yeah it can hurt you if you are exposed for a long time.. but like everything (asbestos for example) couple of exposures won't kill you.. wink.gif
