laptop for home theater ?

hi
I had a decent dell hooked up via hdmi to my samsung un55c7000. but my dell died on me .

i recently added my first laptop to the household but have never used one before.

is it ok to have a laptop on 24/7 and used as a home theater pc.

i watch hdtv rips and .mkv's and work at home on the internet so it would have to be on and plugged in all day everyday.

or should i go and buy an other actual pc cause i paid alot for this laptop and dont want to ruin it but i have no knowledge of laptop care or how to treat one.

next question is will this laptop be powerful enough to play and perform for my needs as far as videos i dont play pc games.

Laptops are expensive as dedicated HTPC's. For one you're buying a screen you don't need.

Sounds like he already had the laptop. But yes generally a laptop is not the first choice for value.

It's what I use - mostly because I am in a small condo and we have 2 laptops and I didn't want to add a dedicated HTPC.

I run DVI from my T400 to a projector and S/PDIF (base station) to my receiver. I only use 2-channel (again space). About 1/2 the time I just watch on my 24" dell screen, but go for the projector for movie hour.

If you have an AVR to run the HDMI through, then you should have no issues.

just be mindful of the laptop temp. my HP is a warm SOB.
