Go to the beginning of this thread and pm Chris.

For Value Electronics you will have to call them.

And remember calibration is a must with this set

Well, I finally did the change. Today I paid the difference for my replacement. I will return my Samsung PN59D8000 (Y504, but it was a Buzzer), and bought the Panasonic 65" VT30 instead. I really like the Samsung picture, very clear and with great colors, but the build quality, flimsy stand, and buzzing issues (my second Samsung TV that buzzes excessively), etc, made me do the switch. Additionally the store could only offer the I503 build for the 64" which is an older version than my July build Y504.

I also off course wanted the larger screen size, so it was either Sammy's 64 or this VT30 65 inch set. In the end, my wife also liked the Pannasonic better than the Samsung, which partly played a role i the decision in the VT30s favor.

I am a little antsy still since the Panasonic image did, in the store, not seem as sharp and well defined as the Samsung D8000 image, but it is so hard to tell in a store where they run a tv signal that is shared by so many other television sets, and have a lot of ambient light sources to make the plasmas look less than optimal.
It did however appear to be much stronger and well built than the Samsung, which in comparison felt a bit flimsy to me at this point.

I still have to see how the TV image looks at home, but I assume there are some settings I can manipulate to get a big more defined image should it be lacking (sorry I am a Noob, can you tell? )

I guess I will do the slides like many suggests to also check the set for faults.
By the way, can anyone recommend a good calibrator for this set in the Los Angeles area?

Many thanks.

Why don't you see if there is any fluctuations before pushing the panic button...
I have the same set with the same build date and it is spot on..

So I found D-Nice's settings. He posted 2 versions.. EEPROM updated and not updated.. How do I tell which I have and what does this mean? Something to do with the firmware?

Where did you buy from?

First see if you have a problem. I have never noticed it on my 55" VT30, and I bought it back in April. If you do see it, then they have to come and replace a board.

I know a couple people in the last few pages have mentioned ease of returning this set if there should be a problem. I unfortunately have been the guy that has had multiple problems so far. My luck just seems to be bad lately.

However returning the two sets has been almost too easy. It literally has taken no more than five minutes per call. The Amazon shipping rep answers the phone, I confirm my account and they give me the option to refund of replace. No hassles about what happened or anything. Just based on this I would absolutely order from them again.

Can you see on the outside of the box what build date or version the VT30 has (like on the Samsung boxes you can see what version it is, i.e. Y504, etc.)?

I would suggest checking your EEPROM version to see if the fix has already been applied. Going by the build date can be misleading as there have been a few reports of even early builds having been fixed. (Please see my previous post on what BB reported).

No, however, the serial number will be on the outside of the box.

I have a n-class router and decided to link up the VT30.

While I can connect to the local router, I can't seem to obtain an IP address. Therefore, I have no internet access on the set.

I've tried leaving everything on auto, but no IP. I then entered the correct values manually with still no joy. (The IP/Subnet/Gateway/DNS numbers were doublechecked)

What is perplexing is that my Panasonic Blu-ray player connects to the internet via my WiFi network with ease.

It doesn't matter much I suppose since I can get to VieraCast via the blu-ray player, but I was wondering what I'm doing wrong.

Also, as a side note: has anyone successfully used the WiFi adaptor without using the base with the cord?

Is there a serial # sequence that would tell me if I buy an updated set? I buy from a brick and mortar store (Magnolia), and I try to find a way to check that I do not get an older set if possible...

I had the exact same problem during initial setup and then I went back into network settings, re-added it again and it works fine.

So I have a July build but my eeprom is updated.. explains why I didn't see any fluctuations as I did on the D8000!!!

I've noticed that when the screen goes black I get loud buzzing and some snow/speckles on the screen. Anyone hear of this?

Yes, they have to replace an A-board that doesn't take very long at all. Some here would say don't worry about it if you don't have a problem since not all pre-August VT30's show the fluctuating brightness issue. Others would say initiate a service call saying you have the problem. I've read where it is recommended if you do this to insist they don't come out until they have the A-board in-hand to replace. I would go with having the board replaced since the issue is a known issue by Panasonic with a fix in place.

There was someone recently (Mo I believe is his user name) that was very unhappy with the PQ until his A-board was replaced.

Good luck!

So here's a typical question some may be asking or wondering about. If we look at the worse case scenario with Panasonic NOT addressing the color issue then how much of a percentage can the colors be corrected post an ISF calibration? For example, will a top level ISF calibration take it 80% or 99% of the way. I've heard both numbers and wonder. Bottom line, will someone that is extremely critical of accurate colors be able to tell that the colors are not quite accurate still post an ISF calibration? Maybe longer term VT30 owners that have had an ISF calibration done can post on how they feel their PQ is for everyone. Is there anything at all regarding PQ wise that can't be corrected unless Panasonic comes through???

I thought this would be a great question for folks to know the answer including myself. We all have heard about the VT30's being so hard to calibrate even by an experienced ISF calibrator that I wonder what can't be corrected after the calibration is done. It almost seems there are tweaks that have to be done more by eye than a device can correctly measure so guess it might be up to how good the calibrator's eyes are? Just a question, I have no idea really.

Robert

I'm surprised no one has replied to this. It would be nice to see replies from those unhappy with the color aspect until they had an ISF calibration done to see how much their display improved. Maybe it doesn't correct all the issues but only comes 80% of the way or less?

Has anyone had an ISF calibration performed where they were still unsatisfied in some way with the PQ?

Robert

Mine buzzes when the screen goes black or "blank", but I have not noticed any snow or speckles.

OK, How do I check the EEPROM version on the TV in the store before I get it?

If you can get them to open the box for you and to let you plug it in in the store, just follow the procedure referenced in the miniFAQ in my signature line.

You can also check the date of manufacture on the white sticker on the back of the television to see if you are August 2011 or better. If so, you have the fix.

(I would point out again however, that the date of manufacture is not 100% reliable in determining that you absolutely need the fix as 1) several have reported current EEPROMs in sets manufactured well before August, 2011 and 2) many don't have FBS even without the fix.)

In summary, if your set was made in August 2011 or later, you're safe. If you are earlier than that, you still might be safe. Check the EEPROM if you wish to be totally sure.

Good luck!

As a side note: Does anyone know of a really good calibrator in the Los Angeles area? I am looking for someone that can bring out the best in my 65VT30...

There was only one time in the two months of ownership that I heard an audible buzz. It was with an all gray screen and it lasted until I changed inputs then it went away and I have not heard it since that one time. I don't know if it was because the TV was cold' when it displayed a full screen of just one color or what but it only happened that one time. It has not happened and I do not hear any buzzing at all with any black screen or blank screens. My set has been whisper quiet outside of that one time.

Dave Abrams is in your area. I believe you won't find better.

Here is a link for you or others. It lists all the ISF calibrators in the U.S., actually has everyone in other areas as well such as Canada. This is a great site. You can then pick your state to find all the ISF calibrators in California.

Good luck!

Dave Abrams is listed under Avical.

So does the serial number on the box tell you what month of build the tv is? Is there a certain number the set should be to know that you already have the fix?

Are you guys using HD Size 1 or 2?
