They wouldn't have any effect on the results of a high quality calibration.

Are you wondering how different the two results (D-Nice settings/procedure vs a professional calibration) might be? D-Nice's estimate for some Kuros about 5%. Given the difficulty some folks have following D-Nice's instructions, it's hard to tell how much difference there would be for a given display.

Edit: D-Nice provided an estimate of 15% for the Panasonic displays.

When it comes to Panasonics, my settings will get you 85% of the way there.

OK, my replacement 65VT30 should be coming in on Tuesday. My first one had a very loud buzzing heard from at least 10' away on darker slides when running the slides.

Anyone else who has or is running slides have much buzzing with the darker slides? I'm assuming there will be some, I'm just wondering how much. My first set was very loud.

I don't hear any buzz from my 3 week old 65vt30.

No buzzing for me at all, front or back of the screen.

Th only time I can hear any buzzing is when I'm at most 1' away and the room is dead silent. In other words, no mine hasn't buzzed while running slides.

I just ordered this tv and can't wait to get it. I'm returning a 70 inch Sharp because of the horrible clouding issues. I'm a little worried about burn in when playing Xbox on it. Can anyone share there experience with playing games on the VT-30.

Yes, I was wondering if there was much difference between D-Nice's settings and a professional calibration.

Good to know D-Nice. Would you still recommend getting it calibrated?

If you have the money for one, absolutely.

I'm a light gamer, two hours max at a time if even that long, always in' game mode' with pixel orbiter enabled. No burn in at all. I've only had my set since October 10th, 2011 and again, I'm not a heavy gamer compared to others. Hope that info is helpful. Good luck.

With the exception of being within an inch or so of the back panel of my 55VT30, I never hear any buzzing. That includes full white screens or all black screens. I think myself and a few others are the exception (luckily) rather than the rule. These panels seem to vary quite a bit in how they behave overall. Hopefully your new set will be as quiet as mine has been so far.

D-nice, (or anyone else who cares to comment)

I'm using your settings on an EEPROM updated MJ series 65 vt30 after doing the panel prep. I have a question about the contrast and brightness settings.

Using the contrast pattern in the spears and munsil calibration bluray In order to just BARELY see the black bar labeled "18" and to be able to just BARELY see the white bar labeled 252 in a completely dark room(as recommended by the calibration disc) I need to adjust the contrast down to 70 and brightness up to 57. My question is whether you think I should make this change from your settings for my particular tv. I notice that nearly all of your vt settings list the suggested contrast as 72 and brightness as 55.

Thanks,
David

Similar gaming habits here and no problems so far during my first month of ownership.

I am in the process of running the slides now n. 65vt30....got about 72 hours down, with 128 hours to go.... (doing 200 hours on it...wife wants to play her Toy Story 3 video game on it right away, so....200 hours of slides first).

I do hear a faint buzz....when I go behind the TV and press my ear of to one of the small screen areas that passes air....but I am older...maybe you are young and just have exceptional hearing and not a real panel problem?

Thanks for your response to my question. Makes me feel better about going plasma.

I am getting my 55VT30 delivered next week. I am considering running the slides and using your settings - it seems many are VERY happy with this

But I am not sure if 85% is good or not (with my 55LE8500 I used ISF expert 1 and I got a great picture by using AVS HD 709 /Spears and Munsil / Disney WOW to set up the TV)

What I am puzzled about is how one set of settings can apply to all TVs running the same firmware (I understood the whole point of calibration is that each TV is different) - is there a link (I assume there is there is somewhere but I can't find it ) explaining why running the slides and using the settings works for all TVs (of the same size, model number, etc) running the same firmware.

I am ready to go for the slides and and the settings - but before I commit with my new (precious) TV I would like to understand more.

Also if you are visiting the SF Bay Area (CA) in the next few months I could be interested in a professional callibration.

Thanks

Ultimately it always comes down to the viewers eyes and what settings they are happy with. Like all new settings it takes a little time for your eyes to get adjusted to the new picture. By a completely dark room you mean no light at all? I would think they would want you to at least have a light on behind the tv set, which makes a big difference.

Yeah, I typically watch in a dark room. I have the ideal lumen pro from cinema quest but not sure if i like the light behind the tv or not.

The TV just brightens and dims throughout the game. I watched the pre-game show (studio talk before the actual playing of the basketball game), and the issue did not happen.

Literally, as soon as the ball was tipped off to start the game, the TV brightened. Then dimmed right after. Then brightened a few moments later. Then darkened right after.

It does not happen on any other occasion. It happens only when watching a basketball game.

I thought it would be because of the broadcast feed, but it happened on a different channel playing basketball.

My build date is October 2011, my serial number starts with LJ, I have the latest fw (2.20), and my PDP-EEP is 84.46, which is the post-fix for the faulty fbr problem.

I've read responses 4692 and 4697 to this post but wanted to add my two cents as well. And, I have the exact same tv setup except my s/n begins with MJ (October build).

Curiously, the FB is better now, though not gone entirely, after putting in another 40 hours of time on TV (about 80 hours total). I agree it happens mostly when watching ESPN or other basketball, but not for any good reason. That is, the screen could have the entirely same percentage of the court showing, but it would still do it (FB).

New thing that has started is the the lighting type flashes across the entire screen and also lightning bolt (as my partner would say) across a portion of the screen. I read with interest one reply in terms of photographers strobes being responsible. I really don't think that is it. But I also want to make a distinction between the two problems most apparent (FB and "lightning bolts"). The FB and "lightning bolts" happen most often often on ESPN, but it does still happen on other channels (even non sport related).

You can search Youtube and find examples of the FB (and I have it). I have experienced also the ABL feature (try watching hockey) and you'll see the difference.

So, while for some reason the FB is better now (but still not acceptable) after a few weeks, the newly developing "lightning bolt" issue seems to be a problem with the tv that needs a fixin. It's been less than 30 days, so BB/Magnolia will be replacing the set with another. The picture quality of the TV overall is beautiful, except for this.... I still have hopes that the firmware will be upgraded to 2.30 or whatever to include the picture quality patches that D-Nice reviewed as part of the Shootout event (you know, the ones that were to be released to the consumer w/in 4 wks but never were....). If not, and these problems persist through this second or even a third for that matter, it could be then time for the VT50.

I had the pro before but I don't think it would work to well for this TV. I have one set of the 15" and I'm strongly thinking of getting another set so the light is more even off the sides of the TV set. I don't have much bottom light since my TV is on a stand but I think it would make a little bit of a difference if it was wall mounted.

Just out of curiosity can I use the WiFi that came and currently being used by the TV be hooked up to my hub and used to share with other devices? I'm just waiting for some connectors to come in next week so I can make up some new cables to run to it.

Just double checked and I have the ideal lume standard, not pro. I used it for a couple years and liked the results, just haven't really cared for it with the new TV. I'll give it a try again with the 65VT30.

I'm not sure, but I would doubt it as I couldn't even get the wifi dongle to work with my panasonic 46X3.

Does anyone know if it would be acceptable to use a power cord extension for the 65VT30 like the one linked below? The existing power cable is a little short and am needing to extend it a bit.

I've not tried this yet, but the WiFi adapter used in the VT series uses proprietary according to Panasonic tech support.

I'm using my WiFi on my 55VT30 and it works better than I thought it would. I'm able to stream Netflix, Amazon and Hulu without any problems. I'm also able to access my computers on my network thru Viera Tools DLNA for pictures and videos...works great!!!

If you provide more details, you'll get a better answer. As a general rule, I don't think it's a good idea to use an extension cord, especially if you are going directly to the wall.

If you are trying to reach a wall outlet, what about using a good quality surge protector between your display and the outlet you want to use? That would easily add 6' or more.

No. I bought the set in June and watched content without bars or logos for a couple of weeks, then watched normally.

As htwaits said, if you're planning on getting a professional calibration, running the slides is of little value.

I'm plugging into the surge protection only portion of an APC XS 1500 back-UPS. I'm ordering a new center channel stand which may allow me to move the APC closer to the tv to eliminate the problem. If not, I will need a longer cord to properly fish the cord through the wire management system of my full motion mount, down the wall in a cable raceway, and over to my surge protector.
