  1. Panasonic VT30 TV
  2. Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
  3. DIRECTV HD HR24 DVR
  4. Marantz SR7005 AVR

I'd say the TV, Blu-ray player, and Satellite DVR offer the best displays of the Pandora gui.

Glad you got it working

These forums are confusing because there is a mix if videophiles and normal consumers. I'm a normal consumer and all I did was turn on THX mode and enjoyed as normal. I was cautious the first month or so not to watch things with static content for more than a couple hours. Basically if I had something on there for that long, I would change the channel for a bit, or bring up the guide for a little while.

It's not easy to burn in a set anymore, IMO. It seems like you have to have a marathon gaming session or never change one of the channels with the permanent scrolling bar (e.g. ESPN).

Yes, you can buy the TV from any authorized vendor! You do not have to buy the TV from Costco.

As per the terms listed on the Costco website, you can buy the TV from any authorized dealer and still buy the Square Trade warranty for the TV from them.

"Costco members may also purchase a SquareTrade Service plan to cover a new TV purchased outside of Costco from an authorized retailer in the US. Service Plan must be bought within 60 days of purchasing the TV."

In these pictures, you can see, what I would call line bleed. If it only showed up during movie credits that would be ok. However, during rare scenes, you can see the side effect. For example, near the end of Moneyball, when the assistant brings in coffee, I can see a reflection (2 lines) extending out from the coffee tray onto a bluish background. Has anyone watched Moneyball on their TV? I also see the same thing on an older 42" Panasonic Plasma. Is this type of "line reflection" (don't know what to call it) normal to Plasma or is something specific to my VT30? Thanks

Interestingly on my 52" Sony LCD I don't see this effect. Is this specific to Plasma, Panasonic or my TV? On the 42" Plasma, it's much less noticeable as well, I'm sure due to the smaller size.

Also, I recall a member asking if they see interlacing in 96hz mode on Blue Ray, not apparent on 60hz. Yes, I do see during certain scenes, with someone walking across the front of TV, interlacing/artifacts (hard to describe) in 96hz mode, that isn't present during 60hz. During movie credits scrolling at the end of the movie, the credits look smoother in 96hz, but during real world motion, I think 60hz looks better. What's everyone's opinion on 60hz vs. 96hz? I think overall 60hz has less motion side effects. The CNet review seemed to conclude the same. Thanks

Happens on my set too whenever there is a very white area. I believe it's something to do with the amount of power plasmas need to consume to generate white.

Happens on mine too. Not sure if it is worse on Panasonic than Samsung, etc.

Hi,

3 weeks ago I sold my four 2nd generation glasses planning to buy the new 3rd gen. Only problem, the small size, TY-EW3D3SW doesn't seem to be available anywhere! I can only find them on Ebay at $130 instead of $80 like I can pay here locally for the medium size.

Can someone tell me if the medium fits well enough for kids? Or, does someone knows when the small size will be available on this side of the pacific?

Thanks!
Do you guys see this effect with white rarely? So far, I've only noticed it on movie previews like the pics I posted and very rarely during certain scenes. I guess no one considers it a dealbreaker? It would be interesting to know how panasonic compares to samsung in this regard?

Anyone else observe what I'm talking about with 60hz vs 96hz? Thanks

Played BF3 for 45minutes now, couldn't stop myself. No issues. I hope I can at least play for 4 hours later on. That's a minimum for me when I'm gaming

Didn't really think much about when I bought my VT30 but hopefully I've made a good decision.

Tried Crysis 2 in 3D as well but didn't really seem to do anything special though? Made my eyes hurt as hell though which I feel nothing of when watching 3D movies.

http://www.visualapex.com has S (limited quantities per the website when I just checked), M, and L of the 3rd generation glasses.

They aren't as cheap as they could or should be, but they aren't ridiculously priced either like all the resellers. $100 per pair. I got 2 sets of the mediums a few weeks ago, and they arrived quickly and safely.

Thanks a lot, however I'm out of luck, they don't ship to Canada

Another question.

Pixel orbiter. I read somewhere that THX mode has is it disabled. I have two options to chose from, AUTO and ON. On THX it's on AUTO by default (ie. not disabled?) and I can't change it. On GAME mode however I can.

So my question is, what's the difference? I figured if it's auto it's handling itself and doing what it does best (whatever and whenever that is, lol ) and if it's on... the same?

Someone care to explain? I'd like it to be active since it prevents bad stuff, that's about it. Thanks

Ok I am very frustrated with my search for a new tv

I got the money for the 65 VT30 and the 64D8000

I hear that VT30 has pink tint and green blob and rising blacks with FB

I hear that the D8000 does not have as inky blacks and has much better color which makes it the overwhelming favorite.

I need to buy a tv tomorrow and want to know if the issues on VT will lead me to buyers remorse.

If not for those issues I would go for the vt30 for the way it physically looks and better blacks but would be upset if i have green blob or pink tints

Anybody here with the vt30 can shed some light and rest my wavering feelings

Well, I got mine last week and so far NOTHING to complain about. I don't want to jinx myself but nothing seems to be wrong with it. Even gamed some the first 100hours (which I haven't reached yet) and it's simply awesome. Can't wait to get some hours on it, game more on it and get it calibrated for eyegasm.

Keep in mind that most people that have a problem come online and complain and/or want help. The happy ones don't always feel "Hey I gotta go online and tell everyone about how awesome it is!". Think about it, when you have a problem, at least for me, the first instinct is to google the issue.

peace

How small are your kids? The medium fits the my average tween just fine. (I think they have the measurements posted on the Panny site--do your kids wear glasses? Measuring their temple to temple and temple to ear distance should give you a decent comparision).

Actually, I think the problem is some folks google for problems THEN look at their TVs!

PS: Glad you are enjoying your VT30!

Panny has fixed the FBr issue, Samsung has not.
The rising blacks were problems with older Panny models; nobody really knows about this years.
No, color is not "much" better with Samsung, and Samsung is not the "overwhelming favorite."
There is a slight edge with black levels for Panny, and a slight edge for color accuracy with Sammy. Overall, most reviews rate them both tops for PQ (CNET gave Panny a slight edge for PQ overall ). And IMO, Panny is better than Sammy for build quality, reliability, and customer service. But in the end, it's your choice.

I want the VT30 65 inch and I can buy it tomorrow but just wanted to make sure from the owners that I will find these crazy issues reported and make me pull my hair out.

Tomorrow I will buy my Panny...Thank YOu

Line Bleed is an issue that only affects plasma technology. It effects all plasmas and brand names in all HZ modes (60,96). It has to do with the plasma distributing power properly when there are lines on the screen. Wait until you see a scene when some one is standing in front of window blinds. It seems to affect bigger screens more than smaller sized ones. For example a 65 inch compared to a 50 inch. My VT experiences the same thing. I've come to accept it though. It's something that affects all brands and models.

The VT30 issues have been fixed by Panasonic when it comes to the fluctuating blacks. As for the pink and green blobs, I've never had the issue. If It can't be seen in real world viewing than who cares. Samsung refuses to admit there's an issue and has not released a fix for the black pops. Trust me go with a VT. You won't regret it. Or you can just wait for the VT50 and pay the $6,000 Panasonic is going to ask for, for the new 65VT50, which I am assuming is the price considering its being launched in Japan for the equivalent of $6,500.

CNET is still doing long term testing and at hour 2,000 they said the VT black raised a little over the GT's. Very odd behavior but the GT seems to hold the best black levels.

Yea, I read that too... Strange indeed...

This information is incorrect. It has been reported that Panasonic will release the 65VT50 on May 14 with a retail price of $3999.99.

Fellas, I need a little help with the network connection on my vt30.(I'm actually kinda embarrassed to ask about this) I had my set connected via cat5 to my router for about a month and it worked just fine, but this past weekend I had to take the set down to redo some cabling. I added a network switch to my equipment rack(I needed more outlets than my router has) and I reconnected the vt30 and now when I run the connection test it gets to the second step and says it can't get an ip address. All my other equipment connects just fine so I know it's not the switch. I reset to factory defaults(couldn't think of anything else) and tried to run the connection test again and same result. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you are buying with a thirty day return period (for any reason), then you should wind up with a display that makes you happy.

Just get the VT30, I have spoke with some THX calibrators on other threads and they all feel that the VT30 and D8000 have roughly the same picture... and that the VT30 can actually match the D8000's color with a few adjustments.

The information is not incorrect. High def digest reported the 60VT50 is being released at $6500 in Japan. Whether or not it releases here for that price is yet to be seen. I don't care what's been "said" all I can go on is what's definite, and the 60VT50 is definitely selling for $6500 in Japan.
