I'll see some line bleed every now and then while watching the Bruins on NESN but have come to realize that it's usually when they are on the road and figure it must be from the feed since 99% of the time the picture is fine for home games. I use D-Nice settings with Directv sitting about 10' back from the set.
The only time I've ever seen line bleed is when pulling up the input menu and if I move up and down on it with the arrows, and I watch tons of hockey. Pretty awesome tv in my opinion.

My question though is regarding 3d. Do other VT30 owner's see a lot of pop out while watching 3d content? I've only watched one 3d movie and noticed next to no pop out effects, even on the few parts there should have been some. I have noticed the depth to the picture (backgrounds that go on forever), but no pop out. Is that the way these tv's are? Or is that due to the smaller screen that I won't notice it like I would in the theatre?

I am interested in buying this model.

Can any 65VT30 users tell me if it can play video files from an SD card or USB thumb drive??

If so has anyone been able to play AVCHD video (mts) files they've recorded
from a digicam or camcorder??
Thanks for your help.

I just picked up a floor model of a 55VT30 at a great deal and when I got it home I noticed there is a scratch on the medal frame in the upper right hand corner and also the screen to frame seems misaligned (there is space between the metal and the screen on one side and not on the other side) I attached a picture of the left and right upper corners to show what I mean.
The picture on the screen looks great and I don't see any flaws that are damage related. Any thoughts on how to fix this? I think there is only one other store in the area that has a display model and I can see if they will exchange it.
I don't want to return it because I will have to spend more to get the same VT at a higher price; and since these models are becoming scares it will be impossible to find one at the price I bought it.
I bought the 4 year warranty but I am also concerned that they may try and ding me on repair service if I call it in saying that I caused damage.

I've noticed that something, I don't know if its because of the source material? The 3d on vt30 hasn't impressed me at all.

I picked up a Panasonic demo 3D (2011) disc that has an underwater clip. In that clip there's two major pop out effects that work really, really well. One is with a shark's tail, as the shark is swimming away from the viewer, it's tail is out of the screen and seems like it may slap you in the face if you aren't careful. A lot of fun. The other is a sea turtle that swims directly toward the screen and appears to swim right out of the TV, another really great 3D effect. You feel like you can grab the darn thing, the image is nicely rounded too, not like older 3D tech that may pop out but looks flat and like a cardboard cutout. In the first clip on the demo disc, of Avatar 3D, there's a scene with jellyfish like creatures that are floating around and some of them really appear to be floating outside of the TV and again, it seems like you can almost grab them as they float by. Kung Fu Panda 2 3D has a couple of pop out effects also but the Panasonic demo disc has the best I've seen so far. The other clips also have very good 3D effects (depth etc.) but those are the standouts as far as pop out effects go to my memory.

Thanks for your help.

I just tested it and it can play videos. I only tested it with an MP4 file so I am not sure about the other formats.

Looks to me that the upper right corner took a hard whack and it pushed that upper part of the metal frame over to the left. I think you either live with it if the TV is functioning properly or see if you can get that upper part of the frame part. If you are brave and good at DIY, you might be able to slightly release the upper area to remove that metal frame and replace it.

It looks like cosmetic damage and as you said, it was a floor model. So if you got a really good deal, it's part of the price you pay. Of course I totally understand you'd prefer it to be perfect. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to call the dealer to see what they could do to repair it.

Another option I was considering is wide automotive pin striping tape. I was thinking of using it to cover the silver so the frame was black. That might lessen the damage.

Floor models are never a go for me because you get a discount because it is a floor model.

I would not bother with anything used. Return that crap which looks horrible by the way and buy a new one if you can or a different set

I would never spend good money on a set that looked like that

You can't see it unless you are close and I saved about $1000 on this set and it works perfectly. I can live with something that only I know is there to save $1000. Plus you can't get this TV anymore which isn't motivation for me to return it.

I do understand your point though.

I was thinking duct tape instead, but automotive pin striping may be a good idea

Seriously though, you are right it's a minor cosmetic issue, I can't believe this picture. This is my first (well second) plasma. I had the S30 last week but returned it for this one because the S30's glare from the light was not a good fit for my brightly lit room. I actually gave the S30 to my brother who has it in his living room that has no light that can reflect from the screen.

Debate about PQ aside (which I understand is the holy grail of criteria), can you guys help confirm or dispel my initial comparison on the key feature differences verses the Samsung 7000 and 8000 models:

1) No swivel stand on the Panasonic. This is a huge bummer for me, unless I can find a simple, cheap, low-key after market solution that doesn’t involve change our entire entertainment center or mounting on a wall.

2) Panasonic does not include wi-fi built-in so you either have to buy an (over-priced) wi-fi dongle or connect to the web by some other means.

3) Panasonic DOES include one set of 3D glasses and Samsung does not. However, when I initially looked online I could get the Sammy glasses new for about $20 each and the Panasonics were costing over $100 each on Amazon. Is this a mistake? Point is, if I intend to end up with about 5 pair this could be a huge difference – i.e. $100 total versus $500-600. Hoping this is a mistake and you can find Panny compatible glasses much cheaper…

4) Panny’s glasses use IR instead of Bluetooth so if I was, let’s say, laying down and the glasses were partially obscured from the set I could lose my sync with the TV?

Are there non PQ/brand reputation/service/reliability feature-related pros to the Panny over the Samsungs I should consider, other than being about 0.5” larger in screen dimension?

I have had good experiences with both Panny and Sammy plasmas (and still own one of each) so it really comes down to best bang for the buck within the equivalent size/feature-wise.

Thanks!

2) Panasonic does not have Wifi built in, but does supply a Wifi adapter with the tv that plugs into one of the USB ports on the tv. Works fine.

3) Most retailers list a price of $100 for the glasses but some will sell for less. I have two pairs on order that I paid $70 for and just picked up another pair on Friday for $65. Talk to the right people and you'll get a decent price on glasses, if they have them.

4) Haven't experienced any problems laying down yet, although I've only watched one 3d movie, but it worked just fine while laying down.

Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't realize they included the dongle. They should just market it as having wi-fi then instead of being "wi-fi ready" which is usually code for need to buy an accessory, but whatever just glad it has it.

On the glasses, even $65-70/pair is way more than the $21.29 cost for the Samung glasses. Is there a reason they cost so much more? At $70/each I'm look at about $300 to end up with 5 pair (including the one that comes with the set) versus $100 with Samsung. Is there some feature or quality benefit that warrants the price? Or are their any 3rd party glasses that are compatible with the Panasonic for less?

Just received my 65vt30 and oppo 93. October build MJ series. Now to start the D-Nice slides. I can try to figure out what receiver to get while the slides run for 100+ hours.

If you're looking to use the 3D features be sure the receiver is 3D capable with the latest HDMI version. Should also have ARC feature just in case. Good luck, enjoy.

I was considering denon avr-2312ci but I'm not sure if that's overkill with this tv and with the oppo. In any case, arc and hdmi 1.4a.

I don't mean to distract this thread away from it focus, so I'll keep focused on the VT30 from here out.

Thanks,

Why would it b overkill??? I have my VT3065 connected via HDMI to a devon 2311Ci,use an OPPO 93 for playback and find the results outstanding...Even
SD DVDs look close to BD quality..

I went to the store and they had one left that didn't have the minor damage and it was October build and the one I have is a December 2011 build, so I would think that it's better to stick with what I have since it is 2 months newer.

I originally bought a Samsung PN64D8000,had issues, returned it,tried the Panny 65VT30,heavy as heck,IR 3d glasses which distance was a problem,3D quality wasnt that great,3D glasses waaaaay too expensive,NO built in wifi, returned it and got back into the Sammy PN64D8000 and this one has NO issues and glasses are $21 each bluetooth technology3D is awesome, built in wifi,78lbs and PQ was just as good compared to the panny.

Sure do. I knew what i was getting into. So far the 65vt30 has been rock solid and the pic is very good, still lacks that Kuro snap. Guess if i never had never owned a Kuro then i would have never known the diff from the two sets.

Where did you obtain or rent Hugo 3D? I have not found a source for 3D movies.

I have not seen much 3D content, but I will say that boxing is awesome.

Good evening fellas, long time reader...first time poster. Thanks to all the valuable information on this forum I pulled the trigger on the 55" VT. It arrived this morning and I immediately started to run the break in slides.

I notice that from side and top angles of 45 degrees or more I can see a horizontal band running through the screen and somewhat of a thicker less defined horizontal band below it. This is seen throughout all the sides, I was wondering...

1) has anyone seen this?
2) Is this normal?

I tried capturing this in photos, this is the best I could get. Ignore the hotspots on the display this is do to the camera.

This is a Dec 2011 build.

Any feedback is much appreciated.

I'm experiencing some strange multi-colored noise in low lit scenes that only seems to affect the blacks. It looks like normal noise at first, almost a heavy film grain, but then forms lines across the blacks. It only lasts a few seconds and then resolves itself. I've checked my source - directiv - with another television and it is not occurring with it. I'm using the standard setting with all noise features turned off - turning on does not help. Anyone have any ideas?
It's the filter and is normal.

Thanks D-Nice. I realize this disappears from straight on viewing and shouldn't be noticeable when viewing normal content, or will it be visible during a dark scene when the tv settings are properly calibrated?

Does the 100% contrast setting for the break in contribute to this?

Thanks again, I can rest tonight not thinking about this too much.
Settings, break-in, calibration, etc. have no impact. Its just the way the filter on your panel is designed to work.
