Hey, I am having a little bit of trouble getting used to my new TV. My problem is actually quite strange. My cable box is set up via component, and I have full access to all features and options. However, when I switch to my PS3 over HDMI, I only have the choice between Movie and Standard vs Football, Golf, Basketball, Cinema, and other things that I can access with component. Also, I am unable to activate Game Mode while using HDMI, while I can on component. What could explain the reduced features using HDMI?

So, I was able to adjust the settings with my HDMI Device (PS3) off, and they stayed while I loaded up the home menu and then my game (NBA 2K11). However, NBA is 3D compatible and when I was asked if I wanted to stay in 2D or go to 3D it changed my settings so I only had very little access like above. What the heck is going on?

I've figured some more stuff out. You can change settings on the PS3 so that it is able to accept 3d or not. With the 3d disabled on the PS3 (meaning I can't run 3d without changing the settings on the PS3), I am able to use all of the settings. However, when I turn the PS3 to be able to accept 3d, it changes. The settings will stay accessible until I use 3d compatible software. Then, it switches so I can't change any TV settings or enable game mode. Even after turning 3d mode off I am still unable to use all of the settings. So basically, after 3d mode is detected, it limits my settings. Having to switch the settings is going to be pretty annoying, so is there anyway to workaround this issue?

It's the vizio that is locking out the settings; presumably to compensate for the dimness of the glasses it jacks up the brightness, etc.

Finally tried cyberlink's powerdvd 10 Ultra. It does 2d-3D conversion. I had an earlier OEM version so was able to upgrade for $75. I was only disappointed that it can't upconvert blu-ray 2d, only DVD 2D. As for the actual conversion, it does work and adds depth which you can adjust via a slider. Nothing really pops out at you but as I said it does add depth. One other advantage, to me it seems the 2d conversion combined with passive interlacing increases the contrast and sharpness of standard def pictures. My opinion only and it could be a perception issue, but there it is.

Finally got around to watching Drive Angry. If you like Grindhouse flicks you'll like this one. 3D is reference quality IMO, even better than RE:Afterlife. At least till Avatar comes out I guess.

New to this forum, so I apologize in advance for any newb deviation from standard protocol.. but I am having issues with this (new) monitor in my established/existing setup:

SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100314VXSR Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P - Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Callisto 3.1GHz (Unlocked to 4 cores, Overclocked to 3.4GHz)

Any assistance in resolving these specific issues - or, general recommendations settings & configuration would will be welcomed & APPRECIATED.

Hi and welcome to the forum, you'll learn a lot here.

Can you provide a bit more info about your problems? "flickering and choppy playback" is kind of vague. Is with youtube, blu-rays, dvds, and/or video files? All of them, some of them, only one of them? When we know what is flickering and chopping, we can be in a better position to help.

The Vizio 47" 3D set is now $748 @ Wally world. Appears to the new low price. Likely at end of life and being phased out.

Check your local Target. They're clearing out vizio passive 3D glasses for $13. Look in the clearance endcaps at/near electronics.

Did you ever get your problem fixed? Looks like the thread went elsewhere. Thanks!
