Onkyo TX-SR875 Fatal condition - Help needed

What can be the problem making my receiver forget all of its settings each and every time I turn it off (even 'Standby') and make the LED screen of it show this:

Thanks in advance,
Eran.

Typical Onkyo problem. Board on its way out. You need to decide if its worth repair cost or not. Doubt it though all of their boards are costly enough to buy a different AVR. Preferrably not an Onkyo. Reliability problems recently are not worth the investment. Go for a Denon,Yamaha,or maybe NAD or Marantz. Pioneer are also less problematic. Excellent buys right now for the NAD T747, very powerful for its rating and well known for sound quality. Check out the thread here for it.

Got any data to back up this "typical Onkyo problem" statement? I've never seen this type of problem reported in the 4 years the 805 thread has been running. With the 805/875 being virtually identical and the 705-905 models likely having more in common than different, I'd expect a "typical" problem to show up more than once.

Granted, you're probably correct that it might not be worth the repair costs at this point, but that's a long way from using your rather broad paintbrush of painting the Onkyo brand as unreliable. When you factor in that more people will complain than praise on an internet forum, Onkyo doesn't seem to be any more troublesome than the other brands you praise, IMO.

Evidently you don't read as many Onkyo threads as most here do. There are countless complaints of Onkyo board problems. I own two Onkyos, an older 696 that still works as the day I bought it. The other is a "newer" 876 that is exhibiting the same problems that many Onkyo owners are having with their newer problems, that being HDMI failures. This is occurring on many of their models. From the 05 series and carrying on with even the X008 models. Do a simple search to find all the supporting data you need. Yes it is possible that they sell more but a reliability issue is just that. These AVR's should last for more than just a couple of years for the prices they sell for. As for your statement about complaints as compared to praise there's a reason for it concerning Onkyos. You won't read about so many complaints about the brands I do praise as you say. Also realize that this is my opinion also. Just research more about the faults of any brand and I feel you will read about more problems with Onkyo than any other brand. They are not what they used to be by a longshot. There are many threads about Onkyo AVR's from their low end models all the way up to their top of the line and many different issues. Heat being one of the top problems and board failures, and of course their long history of pathetic customer service. Why deal with that from any brand. Bang for the buck is not a bargain whenever it has to be replaced long before you want. As for trying to replace any part on their products forget it because its not worth it. Shipping alone is almost cost prohibitive.

I agree. I've owned 2 older Onkyo's sold them to get HDMI support and was very disappointed. I liked the features , but have since moved onto a Yamaha RX-V765 and RX-V1065 which I got at year end prices. Both of these unit outshine the Onkyos. No HDMI issues after a 15 months, no heat build up, no "burned up" electronics. If anyone wants proof just Google "Onkyo burned" or "Onkyo HDMI problem".

Frankly, I can't understand why people keep buying them or defend the obvious history of poor quality. I guess it's like some cars used to be. Thinking Fiat, Renault, and even Volkswagen. None have good long term reliability, but people buy them for some status thing I guess. Just my opinion
