I've been using my Optoma HD7100 for awhile now. The upside is that it has really good optics for a 720p projector. It has all the necessary lens shift to do 2.35:1, which is a HUGE factor for me. The downside... it's only 720p, and my bulb is getting a bit dimmer. I could buy a new bulb, but why put $300 into something that is kinda outdated anyways?
My problem is, that I can't find one projector that will do everything that I need it to. My requirements are too difficult. I have to ceiling mount the projector and my ceilings are only 8'2" which means that I have to be extremely careful with offset. As much as I might like a Mitsubishi HC4000, I just can't go with something like that because of my low ceiling. My other issue is that I really want a 1080p projector, but at the same time, I want 3D. Getting both in the same projector is way out of my price range ($1500).
My other issue is the whole 2.35:1 thing. I have a screen that will accommodate either normal 16:9 movies, or I can open it out for 2.35:1 movies. There are a number of 3D movies that are 2:35:1, but finding lens shift on a 3D projector that can do everything else is a real nightmare. So I'm stuck with the same old projector for now.
