which receiver should i buy?

Have you considered the new Denon 1912 which features networking and Airplay? What about the Denon 1712 which doesn't have networking but uses the more advanced version of Audyssey MultEQ XT rather than just MultEQ found in the 1910 and 1912?

wouldn't future proofing include 3D capability, networking, iPod/iPhone/iPad connectivity, Airplay, nice on screen GUI, height and wide speaker options, preouts to add an external amp?

both receivers have nice feature sets but there is no "future proofing" on either one of them. Denon is already up to the 1912 now so the 1910 is two years old.

Of the two you mentioned I'd get the 1910. the HK 1600 doesn't even upscale analog sources to HDMI.

The 1910 would be a good choice however, there are three firmware updates for it, the first of which is likely already installed on the 1910 you are considering. Review the link in my sig to determine if the other fixes might be required based on the components used in your setup. If yes, and 2nd or 3rd update have not been installed, you would need to ship it off to a repair facility to have them installed.

FYI ... give at least a few hours before getting impatient and bumping your own thread.

If you are worried about "price" more than anything...

Add the Intgra DTR 5.8(or higher...6.8, 7.8) and the Onkyo TX SR605(705/805) to your list.

Much easier to use than the Denon. Yes they are one year older and you'll have to buy used.

Other than H/K's Ebay store, have no clue where you are getting a 1600/2600(the 2600 is well worth the extra money), but if going that route check out the 254/354 as well.

In Denon, look for 790/890/990 as well. The 790 from the 1910, you lose "speaker B". On Ebay, I've seen the 890 and 990 sell for under $400(doesn't happen often). You could also go one year older, but stick with "higher" models(889, 989) or at the "beginning" of HDMI 1.3...(988)
