Single pixel lines don't display

I just bought a W1100 and have a weird problem. I set the pj into 1:1 mode by putting it in REAL mode and turning KEYSTONE OFF. I set my source image to a single pixel wide cross-hair and the pj only displayed the vertical line and only 2 pixels of the horizontal line on either side of the vertical line. When I set my source image to alternating horizontal white and black lines I got one line of white at the top of the raster and the rest of the screen was black!

These source images had RGB intensity values of (255,255,255) and (0,0,0). What I found was that if I change the black level from (0,0,0) to (1,0,0) both the cross-hair and alternating horizontal line source images looks ok!

Has anyone seen this issue or know why this is happening?

Has anybody been able to upgrade firmware on the 1100 by themselves. Downloaded the files and instructions but I cannot seem to get it to work, comes as far as connecting everything then the flashinstaller hangs - not responding.
Using win 7 64. I am thinking that it has to do with usb drivers not being correctly installed. Any tips on how to do that?

I have download and upgrade the firmware on my w1100 following that instructions, running firmware 1.04 the pj is now working with all the bugs fixed and the user setting doen't reset back to factory anymore. I also try to install it with 64bit windows with no luck. the driver provided by Benq will only work on 32bit windows.

Wanted to see if anyone else is experience flickering issue with both W1100 or W1200 with firmware 1.04.

I bought a w1100 this past summer and it has firmware 1.0. Picture is great but does not remember some of the settings on restart.

I spoke to Benq about settings issue and they said new firmware fixes this issue but I couldn't upgrade firmware myself and had to send it in. Didn't want to be without projector so they sent me a replacement with firmware 1.04 to resolve the issue. It resolves the settings issue but now I get flickering when used with HDMI and 1080i signal .

I have tried both a Comcast and direct tv hd receivers (not in same house) and they both flicker. Does not flicker in 1080p or using component cables in 1080i. I plug my original w1100 with 1.0 firmware in and it does not flicker so seems it has to be the firmware.

After sending me a second w1100 replacement also with 1.04 firmware that did the same thing they decided to send me a w1200 with firmware 1.04 and it does the same flickering of the image.

very strange

The W1200 manual states that 1080i may cause an unstable image. Flickering must be what they are talking about. Probably the same caveat for the W1100.

my original w1100 with firmware 1.0 has no image issues but both the w1100 and w1200 replacements they sent me with 1.04 firmware had flickering.

This is pretty much the default setting more most HD receivers these days - am interested to see if others are experiencing this since I have seen it on 3 different projectors now.

If it is a flash you are seeing, go into the projector's Menu, select Display then Keystone. Under Keystone, select Auto Keystone and switch Auto Keystone to Off.

I had the same problem before but with Auto Keystone set to OFF, I don't see the flashes anymore.

thanks for responding - you had me excited for a second .

Switching Auto Keystone to Off did not work for me. I still see flashes across the screen. Flashes are intermittent - could be every 10 seconds or sometimes it will go 20 or 30 seconds before a flash.

Does anyone manage to see/use the ISF modes?
On the manual says:
"Dynamic/Standard/Cinema/ISF Day(for W1200 only)/
ISF Night(for W1200 only)/User 1/User 2/User3"

But I never saw this ISF modes on mine, and also ISF is pwd protected when entering. Mine is an W1200 with FW 1.04, bought from amazon uk last Sept.

Password, using the arrow buttons on remote: up down up down left right

The ISF menu option is at the bottom of one of the main pages. For W1200 only.

Thank you for pointing out that upgrading needs win 32 bit. I manually installed usb drivers and then used computer with 32bit system, worked without issues.
1.04 is now installed.

Hi all, Just wondering - I notice some people select 'Real' aspect ratio - I have it set to Auto - could someone tell me what the difference is? Is it only for Blu Ray?

Could you give me a few specifics regarding manually installing usb drivers?

I'm trying to flash my w1200 (1.02) to 1.04. When I plug in usb cable to projector Windows automatically installs the driver it thinks I need and will not allow me to change it (driver). Using Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Rok

Go to device manager, find the device there, rightclick on it, properties and then it should say upgrade driver or something like that. Click on " I have driver (or the equivalent, dont know exakt wording), then point it to usbdriver folder that was included in download.

If my info is hard to follow let me know and I will check exactly what you need to click on, I am away from my computer right nw.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately my version of Windows will not allow me to change driver. It just tells me that the current driver is up to date. Going to try again using an XP machine. Thanks again, Rok

You can always delete it from device manager and plug it in again and see what happens.

I finally figured out how to load usb driver, unfortunately flash upgrader still reports "waiting for target reset". I was able to load usb driver by selecting "add legacy hardware" in device manager and found "LibUSB-Win32 Devices".
Windows automatically loads 3 other drivers when proj. is plugged in (2 for usb input devices, and 1 for something called a Gadget usb device). Running out of ideas. Merry Xmas, Rok

Hello, i'v already the firmware 1.04 on my w1200 and i'd like find the last firmware : the firmware 1.05
On the FTP link, we find only the firmware 1.04 ...

Anyone have issues when applying SMPTE test patterns to the W1100?

The pj displays most of the images correctly but does not display horizontal lines at all.

The pj is in real mode with the keystone correction turned off.

I bought a BenQ W1100 over Christmas, and wow. The image is stunning. I do have a few issues with it though. Running at 1080i/60 I get glitches and errors on the screen on both component and hdmi, at 6 ft and 25ft lengths of both. I have posted a youtube video of what I see below.



Long story short, if I enable overscan to level 9 all the issues go away, thanks for the person earlier in the thread who pointed that out.

I'm sure it's a projector issue because the glitches happen OVER the menu. If it was a signal error, it would just show as part of the signal. I neglected to show that in the video.

Is this any of you have experienced? I obviously don't want to live with overscan on, but it's not that big of a deal.

Should I send it back and get a new one? I did buy advanced RMA insurance from where I bought it from, but if this is a common problem I don't want to bother, and will live with overscan on.

Firmware is 1.04, and manufacture date is NOV/11

Guys am on a tight budget and wanting to get the W1100, my mind keeps telling me I am loosing out by not getting the W1200 though

It would be used in a total blackout room, is there any noticeable difference between these projectors, that I would notice?

Some gaming but mostly for movies

Quick update, I asked the company I bought it from about this, and they sent me a new one. It does the same thing. Not really a big deal, but it seems to be some sort of firmware glitch or hardware issue.

Again, 95% of the time I use my projector this does not matter, so I am keeping it, as I LOVE it. Great projector!

This setting is totally wrong. You can also check the review of Viewsonic Pro 8200 calibration page. These 2 pages are totally the same.

Just picked the w1100 up and the thing is a light cannon! I only had it on for 10mins and the picture was what I was after from a DLP projector (former projectors were Benq w500 3lcd, optoma hd65 DLP, and Epson 1080ub 3lcd. I still have a 1080ub and the difference between the two right off the bat was the pop factor and brightness. Obviously the blacks on the 1080ub are much better but I missed the DLP look and will probably regulate the 1080ub to the media room while the w1100 will double as a second display in the living room for movies and sports. Going to do some more testing to see how I like it but does anybody have any calibration settings available?

Hi Guys - I just picked up one of the w1100 projectors - do you guys know if the calibrations on the projector is the same as the w1200. I could only really find peoples calibrations for the w1200 and not the w1100.

What are people calibrations for the w1100?

BenQ W1200 is $899 here:
