Thanks.

Go to www.monoprice.com

Buy some high speed hdmi cables
Connect everything to receiver and take the output of receiver and connect to tv

ith the hdmi pass through I should also be able to use the tv speakers only I think...sorry a novice at this and trying to keep the wife from getting crazy..

It will work trust me...hdmi passthru is just an option that you can use if
You decide to. Still needs to be set up the same way. Especially easy to hook up hdmi because 1 wire = hd sound and video

Thanks so much for the help. I am replacing an older onkyo receiver from an HTIB that did not have any HDMI cables. When i switched to Fios I decided to get a 50' plasma and go HD. I have three rear speakers in the ceiling and I am still using the two front, center channel and sub from the Onkyo HTIB. I may have to change those speakers also but I wanted to see how they sounded with a new receiver. I almost went Bose cinemate GS so there would just be a speaker/sub hook up but decided against it after listening to the Bose at the store...sounded very tin like. I wanted a center Chanel also so I can make sure I hear dialogue in movies etc...Thanks again.

All receivers/amplifiers heat up.

Onkyo, yes, get hotter than average. Let it get hot and vent.

I would Stay away from those Bose speakers. Check out some of the forums involving Bose and read up.

I decided against the Onkyo 608 becasue of the running hot issues because the reciver may be inside a cabinet, not sure yet. Yes the bose speakers ive already decided agsint, just did not like the ound really and no center chanel. I need small, so I was looking at orb audio and mirage. For the time being I will ttry and see how the curent old onkyop speakers hold up. I will let you know about how hot the Yamaha gets hopefully by Monday.

Most receiver remotes in my experience aren't the most user friendly and the macros that it sets up are not-programmer but rather learned. For a good all-in-one look into harmony remotes by logitech. I recently picked up a harmony-650 for $65 at best buy and they frequently go on sale. It operates 5 devices in unison and you use your computer to set up the macros.
